Organisation of the Islamic Conference threatens Denmark with trade embargo

It's more than disrespect to them, it's an actual sin. So, I imagine that it's similar to drawing a cartoon of Jesus doing a sin. Or dressing up as Jesus in a porno, or something like that.

So, no one's piped up: but it's legal in Pakistan to offer money for killings?

Western peoples make fun of Jesus all the time (ever seen The Life of Brian?). Muslims are simply going to have to learn to deal with offensive depictions of their prophet, because ridiculous reactions like this just make people want to mock him even more.

It's not just an insult, remember, it's a sin to them. It would be like if they performed a sin in our eyes (like, say, issuing a bounty on a journalist's head). Of course, in my example, the principals of 'self defense' rear up.

Yes you can. For example, I will gladly endorse any law that tries to stop child prostitution. I will help with any embargoes against countries that do battle child prostitution. The list goes on and on. It's the nature of man to expect others to follow laws that we keep for ourselves. Even on this thread, we've been discussing opinions regarding the bounty, and how that is wrong.

That still doesn't work because you have to have a world wide definition of 'child' and 'prostitution'.

In England for example the age of consent is 16 whereas I believe it is 18 in the US. Is the US going to change it's laws for us or visa versa?

It's a sin that we(or rather the catoonists) are doing, not them.
To a christian, believing that Mahommed is the true prophet is also a great sin. Yet it would take a lunatic christian to issue a fatwa against the whole muslim population.

We have to accept that people from other religions will commit stuff that we consider sinful(well, not me, since I'm not a religious guy, but you get the picture). This is valid for muslims as it is for evangelical christians and some factions of the catholic church.

South Park" Parked by Complaints By Sarah Hall

Did Comedy Central grant the Catholic League its Christmas wish?

Following the Dec. 7 season finale of South Park, titled "Bloody Mary," the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights slammed the network for its irreverent portrayal of church icons and sought to block the episode from being rebroadcast.

It appears the group may have met with success. A repeat of the finale was scheduled to air Wednesday night, but was seemingly pulled from the Comedy Central lineup without explanation.

In the episode, a statue of the Virgin Mary is believed to be bleeding from its rear end, inspiring faithful parishioners to flock from miles around to be healed by the miraculous blood.

Eventually, Pope Benedict XVI is called in to investigate, whereupon he determines that the statue is actually menstruating and thus is nothing special.

"A chick bleeding out her vagina is no miracle," the pope declares in the episode. "Chicks bleed out their vaginas all the time."

Somewhat predictably, the Catholic League was incensed by the satirical portrayal of the Virgin Mary and the pope and by the fact that the episode aired on the day before the Catholic Church celebrated its Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The conservative group demanded an apology from Viacom, Comedy Central's parent company, to Roman Catholics everywhere and "a pledge that this episode be permanently retired and not be made available on DVD."

The Catholic League also sought a personal condemnation from Viacom board member Joseph A. Califano Jr., who the group noted is a "practicing Catholic."

Califano was only too happy to oblige. After viewing the episode, he released a statement calling the episode an "appalling and disgusting portrayal of the Virgin Mary."

"It is particularly troubling to me as a Roman Catholic that the segment has run on the eve and day of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day for Roman Catholics," Califano said.

Califano also pledged to have Viacom president and CEO Tom Freston review the episode.

Comedy Central did not respond to a request for comment on why "Bloody Mary" was yanked from the schedule.

Screencaps of the episode were no longer available on Comedy Central's press site, or on comedycentral.com's South Park section.

The Catholic League previously tangled with Comedy Central in 2002 over a South Park episode titled "Red Hot Catholic Love," but failed to produce any results.

Meh! I have that episode on my computer! South park makes great comedy, though they haven't done any on Muslim ones yet, as far as I cabn remember. They mainly rip on catholics and Jews.

Did you see the Santa in the mid east or osama episode when Cartman called them Jawas?

Oh yes, but those were shallow and not fill with deep insightful meaning as Jewbilee or Bloodymarry :D, although super best friend rocks.

So let me see: Denmark establishes a system of rights and freedoms that grant the Muslims the right to try to take over Europe through higher birthrates (it's true, it's a non-violent jihad of theirs), and so using those same unappreciated rights, some newspaper has a cartoon featuring Muhammada, and then these Muslims threaten the newspaper? Also, why threaten the country? If you want to stamp out civil rights, well, the first to go should be exporting the Muslims trying to take over Europe. Lots of people are disobeying my religious rules, yet if I were to threaten them, I'd be jailed. If I were to march in the streets against them, I might be accused of a hate crime.

If these Muslims want the freedom to practice their religion in a historically Christian country, they should respect the rights of others. Please don't consider any of this bashing, because it's not aimed at Muslims in general, just those ones who threatened Denmark: What savage beasts! They immigrate to Europe, sit in squalor, with a high unemployment rate, waiting for government handouts while just getting angry, and acting like they own the country.

Yeah, it was a stupid cartoon meant only to offend, but all political cartoons are stupid, completely unfunny, and only meant to offend. These jihad, death-threat Muslims should realize other people have the same rights they do.

Update: http://www.masnet.org/news.asp?id=3148

Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) secretary general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told reporters in Cairo Sunday that the international body would "ask the U.N. general assembly to pass a resolution banning attacks on religious beliefs."

Luckily, if it passes, we here in the US have a long history of blowing off the UN, so it won't affect us anyway.

If it passes someone should remind the fundies(on all sides) that its okay to be of a different faith

If they thought that was offensive, wait'll they get a load o' this!:evil:

But Im sure they'd fight tooth and nail a resolution condemning attacks on civilians by suicide bombers.

Now that's not really fair. I think the proposal is idiotic, but there have been Muslim groups left and right that condemn the attacks.

Insult a muslim with the littlelest thing and they pronounce holy war on you. I saw a muslim girl at the mall yesterday who was carrying a handbag that said: "Islam is about peace, love and respect" Yeah, right!

It's not about the cartoons anymore. The danish newspaper has already given an apology for hurting muslim fellings, and the the prime minister has explained that he cannot control the danish media. Nothing else can be done. We are beyond discussion about cartoons now. Still the muslims refuse to listen.
What is really going on is that they have found a cause to unite against, because of their ohh so long jealousy and envy of the wealth and freedom of the Western World. It's just another battle in the cultural war between Islam and the Western World that has been going on for centuries. I personally think it was stupid to post the cartoons, given the obvious insanely lack of humor that prevails among Muslims, but the muslim reaction now is just ridiculous. They simply don't want to settle this issue untill Denmark implemets the Sharia as the only legal way of life, cuts of the heads of the writers, and stones to death any girl wearing a bikini! Until the muslims start to behave like intelligent, civilized people, they will always be viewed as a backward and inferior to people of the Western World. Periode. Even the people that came here to get a better life, are now f****** backstabbing our nation! Well, I sincerly hope that all the billions we pay in foreign aid to these countries every year is now just a saga! This scandal is going to hurt them plenty a lot more than us...

Anyway, we might as well take the battle with them now, it's bound to come sooner or later...

That is so an outdated kind of racist comments (they breed like rabbits), that only low-grade racist scams still use.

That one is a little bit more subtile (they are a bunch of lazy asses), but I am sure you can do better than that

Talking about tolerance in such a racist comment is like denoucing anti-semitism in My Kampf

Now what I think about the issue:

1. The newspapers has every right to publish what ever they want, and they shouldn't have presented any excuse to anyone,

2. Muslims have the right to protest agaisnt the Newspaper, boycott danish products or take any peacfull action as a sign of protest, although I find it really stupid, intolerant and narrowminded to do so.

3. Contrary to what I read here, protesting against some thing you don't like is not specific to Muslims, example are legion. Here in France, a black actor was brought into court and harrassed just because he made a fun about an "extremist jewish settler", every one can remember the reaction about "The Last Temmtation of JC", and countless other movies

4. The West sometimes ask other countries to follow rules that are important only for the West. One exmaple I always find hallucinating is when they ask south American countries (Columbia and Bolivia) to fight coca agriculture just because it is used to make cocain, a product that is a problem for the West not for Bolivia. It is like if Saudi Arabia wanted France to stop making wine because Saudi may drink it !!!!

That's a bad comparison.

Anyway the problem with coke is that the peasants can't compete against subsidised western agricultural products, and are therefore tempted to grow coke in order to survive.

I agree with the rest of what you say though.
