I had drafted this post before I had looked up who was this metalrat guy...

Yeah that was me guys. It was a convenient way to get a gmail address.

So, since this is the OT thread, any guesses why I am the metalratguy?

The old card catalogues produced by Rochester Filing Cabinet Co. Inc were affectionately referred to as 'Metal Rats' by those who worked with them every day, owing to their tendency to dry-rot index cards.

 This is pure imagination, isn't it? Creative guess, but also wrong.

chinese calendar involved?

Ah, the "guy" thing is because you're male? :)

:bounce: :bounce:
remains the "metal" to be solved...

metal vs. earth... :hmm:
Any "religion" or superstition involving something like "the elements"? :dunno:

Perhaps in Chinese tradition there are 'elements' as in the mesopotamian tradition: Earth, Air, Fire, Water. I suppose Metal must be one of those.

But I'm still uncertain how Donsig determined that Aigburth is Earth and Horse... :hmm:

Then there's that nagging homophony between aigbURTH and EARTH :crazyeye:

My date of birth is my profile, I'm guessing that is what Donsig used to determine that I'm an Earth Horse Guy!

By the way Aigburth means "hill where oak trees grow" in old English, a combination of the old norse eikr "oak tree" and anglo-saxon beorg "hill"

Edit: Seems Chinese astrology has both elements and animals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_astrology

Exactly. peter grimes does not show his birthdate in his profile so that's why I don't know what he is. A few years ago I found a book about Chinese astrology in the library where I work. One part of the book has all 144 combinations of couples. It doesn't take into account the elements but does touch on them sometimes. The book says that for a rat like me the worst possible mate is a horse. It so happens that my first wife was a fire horse. The fire/metal combination makes the rat/horse combo even worse. If only I had found that book some thirty years ago...

ahh you guys are old! im 16, born in '91..
:gripe: Well, that's excactly what we needed here... :gripe:

Nice intro... :splat:

:D just kidding, welcome to the show. :wavey:

For what it's worth, Eki, you should vote in the poll that started this thread :D

Also, I was in college when Civ1 came out (tho' it wasn't called civ1 at the time ;)) and have been a compulsive player ever since.

Hey folks,

How can one cancel resource deals without declaring war? :dunno:

In #196 SABER had sent us rubber with accept, for 20 turns it was announced in the F4 screen. We accepted the deal. We could use rubber, it showed up in F2 screen.
In #197 the deal is cancelled, it does not even show up in the Active deals department.

How did they do that?

Good call... :wallbash:

:thanx:
