Our latest received letters from SABER and FREE are almost a month old. One could expect a reply to one of our many messages in that span...
In our forum my last three days' posts mark the last of the eight most recently replied threads.

Is this game about to die? :shifty:

I'd really regret this because I really enjoy the game - just as it is. And I know some of our other members also do. But the other teams seem less active lately as many of our members... :mischief:

I hope we keep this game up, good thing our PBEM keeps players looking in here regularly.

It would be nice to continue the game but the slow pace is terrible. Remember the good old days when Wotan complained when he didn't get a save every day? Maybe we should begin discussing what the next MTDG should be like. That will give the Council something to do while we wait...

Okay, let's do it. ;)

The designed world is perfect, the settings fine, the chosen civs (and the way they were assigned) balanced, the rules are sound.
The only things not managed properly in this game is how to treat defiant children and to have a fall-back for retiring teams. But I guess that is unsolvable. :(
An active operator just pressing enter if a team repeatedly violates the GPS times might do something good, too.

We should have looked harder for players to join team BABE to keep this game going.
I had thought this one civfanatics-mod was about to jon Wotan? :dubious:

It's probably a tough task but can one grant to have "active" players on every team? I consider this impossible, because activity always depends on the other team members, success, real life's demands... :hmm:

Wotan does everything to annoy me in the turntracker. :gripe: [pissed]

Does he need someone to push him? :spank:

If we were going to do another mtdg, I think the ruleset should be modified.

There is no penalty for a team not playing in the assigned time - and that's precisely what is [repeatedly] killing this game. There needs to be stronger Game Admin support and enforcement of the turn timer. A real penalty must be enforced when a team fails to post a request for extension.
Game delayed due to late playing: 1st time, warning
2nd time, warning
3rd time, and every time after that: forfeit turn [admin opens save, presses enter, sends save to next team]

It's simple, it's relatively hassle free, and I think it's a fair penalty. I'm not sure if there's a reason that the current admins also happen to be Civfanatics Moderators, but it seems like they have been resistant to this idea in the past, perhaps because it would involve more of their time than they have available.

Let me just speak up to defend Saber here – I probably chat with Dutchfire twice a week. Mostly it’s nothing serious – but The Council always comes up. He’s said they’re still trying to finalize the worker proposal and has apologized for the delay. I would have posted that chat, but I thought we were going to see the letter sooner.

We also chat regularly about what to do about FREE, the problems with trying to spy on them, etc.
Mostly – nothing really comes out of these, so I don’t post them. I guess I probably should  sorry!

Anyway – just wanted you to know that Saber does stay in touch via IM… it’s your Chairman of the Foreign Department that’s to blame

That said – I 110% support Peter idea for real punishments next time around. But that will also require Mods who are active and can devote some time to the game.

No problem here, I remember we had updates from SABER, I just had looked (several times in case Wotan forgets or hides his GPS again) into our empty Mailbox and was getting angry... :gripe:

Maybe we should do this already for this game - It should be in Wotan's interest, he might have even less contractual obligation to fulfill then...

Can we find a more active Mod to administer this?

I guess we could fish around and look for someone to play the save for BABE or enforce the time rule. I doubt we'll have much luck though.

I'm not so sure having tougher enforcement in the next MTDG would help. I think that would just make any uninterested team even more uninterested.

Maybe for this game we should write to Wotan and ask him to just resign if he can't play. Playing out an unbalanced game would be better than what we are doing now and would at least allow us to finish this one and move on to another one.

Maybe we need a rule amendment for this game: anyone on a team that violates the 24 hour x number of times (starting after the amendment is passed) cannot join the next MTDG.

This seems to me to be overly harsh. The point is not to keep people out of the game, but to attract as many people as possible - as many active people as possible. I would approve of a rule along these lines that said: Any Turnplayer who violates the rule x times can't be turnplayer in the next game

The lack of interest in this MTDGII is due to only one reason, the map...if i could make a sugestion why not make it 5 teams but on a huge pangea....war would be so more fun...

Too bad this game won't continue on. We'd have some nice wars with tanks and planes instead of sticks and stones.

@peter_grimes: Why penalize just the turn player? This is a team game and anyone on the team should be willing and able to step up and play a turn. There are many on the BABE team who are active in these forums - and many of them will be the first to sign up for the next MTDG. Well, Wotan has played a turn so let's continue on with this one.

Because the whole point is to encourage MORE participation, not less. I can't play a save. Does that mean that I should not be granted a slot on a team?

I agree that my ideas aren't ideal - I'm only offering them up so we can figure out a better way than what we have right now.

Right now there is no penalty whatsoever for any team to simply ignore the turntimer. That shouldn't be the case. So what should the penalty be?

It has to be fair, enforceable, and awful enough that you don't want it to happen.

The lack of interest in this MTDGII is due to only one reason, the map...
I disagree. There is one team that has made quite a stink about the map, and the way other teams have played the game on it - but 4 out of 5 teams are still very much involved, and playing the save with no issues. The single biggest problem with this game is that there is no penalty for not playing the save in the agreed-upon 24 hours. :hammer:

For those of you who don't check the TurnTracker thread, Donsig posted a well-composed riposte to Wotan's snarky admonition of Paul's innocent reminder that the save lay with Babe :)

It was truly delicious!

Ah darn, I wish I had seen this before Empiremaker's post telling me to calm down. I would have remained silent. Still, I'm serious about BABE retiring or playing on time. I know it would unbalance the game some but an unbalanced game proceeding at a decent pace would be better than the one we have now. We seem so close to ending this game - and after more than a year it's time we get there.

What really irks me (as usual) is the failure to post an extension request. It's so easy to do, and takes less than a minute, even on a dial-up connection!! :gripe:

We sent this Mail to donsig. Did anybody of us actively send this Mail? :dubious:

I'd not be surprised if google did this without asking us.
Did you notice that the ads on the right are fitting to key words in Mail and subject?
I'm not sure if I like that my mails are read even if it's just by a roboter...
Am I paranoid or just old fashioned?
What is a mail system supposed to know about my emails?
Whom might they give that information to? Amazon? Ebay? FBI? :crazyeye:

Seeing how the team email had no previous connection to donsig's email (that I know of), I can only assume that this one was actually sent by one of us. donsig? ;)

good reasoning

I had drafted this post before I had looked up who was this metalrat guy... I first had thought it was one of the "next turn" group... :hammer2:
