ohoh.. I think you are right about saladin 
but as the galleon were west, and you had to launch from east to attack saladin core cities, and due to the fact that the map was centered on us, I missed this aspect. But I still think that ceasar was best (at least for me)
it was so much fun to have the so terrific praetorian fall under my (euh armstrong's) CR3 C1 Grenadier !!!

it reminded me of this so famous "indiana jones".. you know what I mean.. And as in antics I usually quiver in fear at the sight of those units... it was delightful

Thank you armstrong for those powerful C3 grenadiers. They crushed everything, and the only one I lost was due to a mistake of mine : he defended against a knight... loosing position for a grenadier, and I had just sent my lone pikeman defend a pillaging stack just 1case outside the city, I wanted to cry for this mistake
I also address all my thanks to armstrong 7 galleon, and I even built 3-4 more to complet the groupe. But the lack of a second productive city on the west coast was a bit embarrassing. Maybe starting galleon production on the east (madrid, beshbalik and karakorum) or taking/develloping Ligurian sooner would have helped. (armstrong do not take any offense on this),
