Palmyra, Collab Mod

I'm really glad that someone is making Palmyra because I don't think I was ever going to get around to finishing my version (been hesitant to make any new civs for a while because I get unfixable 'runtime' errors with some mod civs, making the game unplayable if they're enabled. Would be really sad to work on something, finish it and never be able to use it).

Love the icon! I was struggling to find something unique to Palmyra but the Lion is perfect.

I'll probably request someone much better at icons then me to make a less rough version. And if anyone has ideas for colours that would be great. I'm started the basic coding of the mod (like the civilization.xml)

For all you history fans, listen to this.

It's an audio episode about the Palmyrene wars and can help with research. (I just finished listening to it and its more themed towards Rome, but still listen if you're interested in that stuff)

I am also currently in the process of making the improvement graphics myself in Blender. No promises that i'll be able to do it.

How about this for a UA and UI:

UA: Venice of the Sands/Pearl of the Desert:
Gain :c5production: production from caravans in your borders in your nearest city equal to half the :c5gold: gold they give to the empire sending them. This is doubled when building military units and wonders. +1 :c5food: food and +1 :c5gold: gold from oases and tiles adjacent to oases. (this prodution goes to the nearest city)

UI: Funerary Tower:
+1 :c5faith: faith. +1 :c5culture: culture for each adjacent Funerary Tower (or hill). Gain a small boost of faith whenever a great person is expened or a military unit dies in the borders of the city with a Funerary Tower. May only be build on flat desert, and are unlocked with Masonry. (+5 :c5faith: faith when a military unit dies, and +15 :c5faith: faith when a great person is expended for each tower)

Hopefully y'all like this, even though it needs to be simplified (I also need to add more commerce).
Also: I need feedback on adjacent hill culture yields for the Funerary Tower.

That UI is way overpowered IMO. Having just, say 3 of them adjacent to each other near a city, that's up to +9 culture and +3 faith per turn. Powerful, but acceptable. If you have that AND the faith boost per unit killed/GP expanded for EACH UI, well that's really powerful. Too powerful I think..

That said, I quite like thought of bonuses per expended GP..

But you have to work them, which in desert flatland gives no useful city-building yields.

I also took away the initial culutre, so they are less overpowered

Not a huge fan of the fact its only desert flatland, since they are show in quite a few images as being on the sides of hills.
My idea was simple. Like a faith Moai.

Funerary Tower: Available at Construction. May only be built on desert tiles without flood plains. +1 Faith. +1 Faith per adjacent Funerary Tower. +1 Culture with Archaeology. +1 Culture at Flight (because tourism?)

How about upon discovering Archeology it generates GG of GP points?

That would be a cool idea, but which great person? GG, GMus and GW make no sense, so it would be great artist, great scientist or great merchant? Merchant fits more into the trade theme but it doesn't make much sense. Great Scientist could be like a archaeologist but doesn't fit the civilization theme much either.

In other news.

PROGRESS!

I can recreate an icon with a vector symbol in it, so that it doesn't look pixelated. I really like your idea for the lion, may I use it?

I can also draw an icon for the UU and a leader icon :)

If you could do it'd be great.

Ok, a potential UA: "Caravans give production to the nearest city when they end their turn in your territory. Cities settled on or adjacent to desert get a free caravansary."

I +1 this.

There is no need to preach SQLism everywhere.

Yeah, damn SQLers, spreading their heathen programming language!

On a separate note, to get into the spirit of er, showing ISIS some culture, we should perhaps pick a Syrian aid charity, or something along those lines and have a link on the workshop page when this is released.

Any suggestions?

I also say in order to get into the spirit or "showing ISIS some culture" we make the UI immune to pillaging.

But on a serious note, we COULD do that. Its according to what other people think.

(Just saying, Hiram used the last part of the UA in his Nabatae. Just. saying.)

Also, a bit too simple to my taste.
(And would someone explain me why does the UI need to generate faith??)

Why do people bury the dead? respect, and more so in ancient times, out of faith. Its a tomb tower, faith just suits.

I'd go with culture, and faith whenever a great person is consumed. think about this.

That could work, i'll see what other people think.
(Not sure if its possible with a improvement)

Remember not to make it better at everything when compared to the Moai. Making it only generate faith and no culture would circumvent the issue.

Although I agree with Natan that it should generate Culture rather than faith, balance should come first (Whenever possible) so faith is the best choice here. (Unless you want to completely redesign what the Funerary Tower does to not be too similar with the Moai)

I like that idea. And it's possible. I've done something similar with the UI in my Nuraghians civ (faith boost every time a unit is killed on it adjacent to it).
