Palmyra, Collab Mod

Okay, it seems like everybody agrees that we should have Clibanarii as Palmyremene's UU. I think we should have a discussion about what we want it to be. For reference, I have provided all of the proposed Clibanarii:

TinyLittleBirdy:
Palmyremene replacement for the Horseman. In addition to having a slightly higher Combat Strength, Clibanarii do not take extra damage from units with Formation or Bonus vs Mounted.

Uighur_Caeser:
Replaces Horseman. Stronger and starts with Cover I. Transfers Movement to stacked Great General and gains a bonus against cities when adjacent to a Great General.

Uig_Caeser:
Replaces Horseman. Starts with Cover I. Generates Great Generals twice as fast and transfers movement to them when stacked.

Howard Taffy:
Much stronger yet more expensive than the Horsemen it replaces, receives a Combat Bonus when stacked with a Great General and heals faster in Desert Terrain, costs no Maitnence.

Howard Taffy:
Much stronger but more expensive than the Unit it replaces, starts with Shock I and Cover I, generates Great General Points equivalent to 25% of the Experience gained from an Enemy Unit.

Natan35:
Replaces horseman. More expansive to construct, the Clibanarii is also stronger(16 ), and has a 33% bonus when attacking, increased to 50% against mounted units.

Urdnot_Scott:
The Clibanarii, unlike the Horseman it replaces, receives +3 experience per trade route to or from the city in which it was trained. When stationed in a city, Clibanarii yield +1 culture per level, or +2 culture in desert cities.

Personally, I believe that since the Clibanarii was the Palmyremene heavy calvary, that it should either have a higher combat strength than the Horseman, or a promotion that makes it seem heavy such as Cover or my proposed promotion.

Moderator Action: I've had an answer back from Hiram with regard to the use of art assets intended for his version of Palmyra. His reply was "I approve".

BTW, I believe we should consider calling the UA "Venice of the Sands", which is something I've seen it referenced as in alot of articles.

But then again, considering Venice is a playable civ, this might be a bit weird, but, eh, whatever floats yo' boats.

I still haven't done any research, but I feel like the horseman replacement should reflect the more militaristic side of the civ, and the UA should have some minor military feature like XP.

For the whole civ however, I do believe it should be a trade/cultural civ, and this should be the focus. The religious diversity and architectural feats of Palmyra reflect this.

Furthermore, Palmyra is an important part of Syrian culture and heritage, as well as national identity, they even have Zenobia on Syrian currency. IS are destroying this heritage, and this mod should celebrate it, so in my eyes, culture is a definite focus.

I assumed this was how far we got.
Leader: Zenobia

UA: Pearl of the Desert: ???

UU: Clibanarii: Replaces Horseman. Starts with Cover I. Generates Great Generals twice as fast and transfers movement to them when stacked.

UI: Funerary Tower: Available at Construction. May only be built on desert tiles. +1 Culture and +1 Faith. An additional +1 Faith for every adjacent Funerary Tower. Funerary Towers generate Great People points whenever a Caravan passes over them. +1 Culture upon researching Archaeology.

A lot happens while i sleep. It's making it slightly hard for me to keep track.
But i'm doing XML, i know that.
Uighur said he can do some lua, but if anyone else wants to help him with that it'd be great.

In other news,
Private message me if you can do the Lua coding for the mod, I have set up a google document that can be edited and shared live with each other. You can add comments to it and highlight specific parts, this will allow you to point out errors in lua coding and get help whenever someone can check the document.
I will only be giving the link to this document to people who can lua code, so PM me or post here saying you can, and i'll PM you the link.
The same goes for people willing to help me with XML, tell me and i'll link you to an XML document.
But stay away from vandalizing the work, i know its tempting.

Real life stuff will keep be busy from this today (its a one off thing), so i will attempt to check up at every opportunity i get.

I still don't get the faith focus...

I guess the tombs might be better suited to yielding gold.

Or culture

I just wanted to say that I don't have loads of time to devote to this in the short term, I'm working all next week. The week after that, I'm only working weekends, but I still have uni stuff to sort out (I'm in a very complicated position), but, I dunno, I could probably only help with XML, civilopedias (once I actually research Palymrene history) and maybe gathering art resources like a base for the civ icon or unit flag etc.

That'd be a unique idea. You don't really need faith after industrial, so tourism (or culture) would be ideal.
Polynesia has their Moai UI that means Tourism can be generated based on the culture of Moai with a Hotel, Airport and/or a National Visitor Center.

How about granting faith whenever you consume\ lose a great person? That'd be nice.

It's not possible to remove or add yields directly to a tile as far as I know. You could just put dummy buildings that give negative faith though, so you could basically do that. I just thought about this potential element to the UA: "Trade units ending their turn in your territory gives production to the nearest city." Since Palmyra built all their impressive buildings with money they got from trade I think it makes sense. And it wouldn't be +1 production for every trade unit, it would be like they give a sum of production to speed up whatever the city is making.

I really like that idea, if that's possible to do. The production to be equal to (half of or equal?) the gold you gain from the trade. It's a really unique idea too. It also means the larger your territory and empire the more likely your trade routes are to give the nearest city.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I'll second that for part of the UA.

On the technical side, earlier it was mentioned that the framework is to be coded in XML, but I really, really suggest that it'll be done in SQL instead. I know it's not that important, but still..

Also: what should be their culture group in CulDiv?
(And what will the mod support?)

Hey, if you think its a better idea i'll give it a go.

The culture should be Semitic. Its religion and culture was very close to it, however it was also influenced by Greek and Roman culture.

I've created a very early concept for the icon, based on the Lion of Al-lāt recently destroyed in Palmyra. If anyone else has another idea for the icon it'd be great. Colours and everything else about this icon is not final.

There is no need to preach SQLism everywhere.

What actually is the difference between XML and SQL?

Of course there is :D !!

The icon looks nice, even if it is a but rough. I have absolutely no suggestions for the colour scheme though..
