TO: First Republic of France
FROM: Kingdom of Great Britain

Let it be known that should any harm befall King Louis XVI, for whatever reason, or should the First Republic attempt to spread its doctrines by force and impose them upon other unwilling states, Britain shall have little recourse but to consider such moves overtly hostile. We caution you, for the good of the continent, to exercise restraint at this critical juncture.

TO: Mysore, Raiputana, Punjab
FROM: Kingdom of Great Britain

Be advised that acting in consort with the known hostile of Maratha will result in a definitively negative British view of your states and, although we are content to tolerate your rule at present, such an event most definitely will not endear you to us.

OOC: I am considering it.

The slippery words of the English king seek only to divide and conquer all India and make us slaves to their trading company. We speak only of defense and cooperation and the English talk of war. Who are they to merely tolerate us in our own land? They are mighty and well entrenched on our land while we are weak. War with England would be unwise, but to ignore her greed and lust for conquest would be foolhardy. To bind ourselves together in defense is to preserve each of our very selves. War threatens all Europe and England looks for excuses to expand her Empire. Join me now and we will encourage his highness to seek it elsewhere.

To Mysore, Raiputana, Punjab

India draws its strength from unity and tradition, such it has always been and such it will always be. As princes of your states you have not only privileges but also obligations, both to your people and to those who stand above you. The Marathans attempt to break the order and tradition of our great nation and seek to bring war to our great country, war from which only they would prosper. The English seek not to conquer India, but to coexist with us, and it is in our tradition to allow for such a coexistance. There is much we can learn and many benefits we can derive from our continued cooperation with England. You must not succumb to the opportunistic and warmongering attempts of the Marathans to bring war into our lives. Let us all live in Peace.

Shah Alam II,
Emperor of India

TO: Mysore, Raiputana, Punjab
FROM: Kingdom of Great Britain

It is plainly obvious that if we sought to extinguish your states, we could effect such with barely an exertion of effort. That we have not done so speaks plainly of how 'quick' we are you seek your territory. Tell us, if we were so threatening as Maratha claims, would you be here to hear their calls to begin with? We might also note that within our dominions, we have preserved internal autonomy for the various Princes, and it should also be noted that it is to us, not Maratha, that Shah Alam II has come.

Perhaps it is more that Maratha seeks to expel Britain from India, consolidate, and then reclaim all the former provinces of the Mughal Empire. One might wonder how they accuse us of lust for conquest when they topple the rulers they conquer and instill their own rule in its place...

Anyone who seeks to counter or balance your power, especially openly, is not your friend. As such, given the Maratha Confederacy's openness in its aims, let it be noted that any state choosing to ally with them shall also be taking such a course, and will also not be considered 'friendly'. The Kingdom of Great Britain is not blind to Maratha's attempts to surround its holdings and strike them from all sides, and be aware that any attempt to band with them to conduct such an attack will result in dire consequences.

Shah Alam II,
Emperor of India

Ahh...The blind puppet of the English steps from beneath the shadow of the English king into the light and speaks. One would have thought that being blind now these 4 years* would have led you down a path of wisdom. You speak of which you cannot see. You sold your soul to the English and now speak of India! You would unite her under the bootheel of the English lords and yoke her to the East Indian Company to serve their interests and profits. Try as you might, you cannot see what is before now and will never see it.

If the English have not stopped your ears you would hear the cry of India for freedom from European oveseers. Return to your plush dark palace prison and collect your stipend of deceit and treachery. Not only are you blind, you are blinded to the true nature of your overlord. Again, you talk of war and conquest. We do not. We talk of preserving what we can of India. What has been left after the work of traitors as yourself. To all who hear you talk, it is clearer than ever before we need to bind ourselves to stand against your next aggressive act.

OOC historical footnote: the afghan Ghulam Qadir blinded Shah Alam II in 1788. :p

You, my friend, are correct, and I have indeed grown much wiser that I have been before. As you well know I have fought for India, against the Afghanis and against the British for a long time. That path brought me glory and riches, but my people suffered, my country suffered.

Now I am content to relinquish the glory that is so fleeting, and the riches that cannot help me, and am glad to work for the good of the people that I rule. We have seen war, I more than most, and it is clear to me that we do not need war. We need Peace.

Perhaps it will take you being defeated and blinded, like I have been, to realize the wisdom that I now have, and if that is the case my heart goes out to you and I pray that the lessons of life may be more merciful on you than they were on me.

Princes of India hear the words of the English wormtongue! He threatens to keep you in your place and secure his dominance by keeping you weak and isolated. He claims we are no match for English arms. Is she so quick to forget her recent defeat? India bested England on the field of battle and halted their thirty years of relentless conquest of mother India.

They parade an old blind man to rule all India? Such foolishness would be humorous if their game was not so deadly. He cannot even read the documents he signs or know who surrounds his private meetings and reports to those who rule him.

Our aims are clearly stated: Defend what the English have not yet stolen. Keep you on your thrones, preserve your power and independence. Hold at bay the voracious lion that is England that seeks to quench its hunger on our corpses.

Join Maratha; not in war, but in peace through strength and willingness to stand together in defiance of those who would depose us all.

To the blind puppet of Bengal:
If you were wise, you would not be a lapdog to your English overlords.
If you were wise, you would not suck at the rich teat of the East India Company.
If you were wise, you would not have sold India to the highest bidder.
If you were wise, you would not dance to the English hornpipe, but to the sitar and tabla.

You are not wise, you are stupid and pathetic.

Chronicles of the Court of Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior, Lord of Maratha

Scindia: What commotion comes without our chambers?
Vizier: My Lord ‘tis the very Princes of India: Punjab, Mysore and Raiputana
Scindia: God be praised! They have come you say. Show them in without delay
Vizier: As you wish…
Scindia: Greetings favored brothers; you are most welcome of all the others. Join me in a hearty meal; we have lots that will appeal.
Punjab: Our humble thanks to you great Lord. I know we arrive on short notice, but we do fear the English and their slippery ways. Their threats and arrogance grow by the day…
Mysore: Yes, and they do encroach upon our lands and in our business stealing profits and markets…
Raiputana: And they stir up trouble all around with bribes and false promises…
Scindia: We shall address all that and more in regards to those uninvited to our shore. The food is set; the smell does call; let’s away just down the hall…

Vizier: Those not invited are not privy to the discussions…

We are ready to sign the treaty we have previously agreed to whenever you are.

Chronicles of the Court of Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior, Lord of Maratha

Vizier: News sire from Bengal
Scindia: Has the puppet pissed his pants again?
Vizier: My Lord the rumor is that he is dead.
Scindia: God be praised and accept Shah Alam II into his rightful place. Who has done this deed and trumped the English hand?
Vizier: I know not, or even if tis true, but it is whispered that his guilt wracked soul took his own life rather than live with what he'd done. But maybe his tongue no longer provided quite the shine to the English lords boots and they have found a better patsy.
Scindia: Send word to Bengal and seek the truth...

OCC I am just a noobie and unskilled in NES play. I use what few tools I have to try and blunt the swords of those more adept and powerful than I. But I do see your silence for what it really is. :p
