A lot of grocery stores will let customers use the boxes that once held their inventory to put groceries into. Otherwise they charge 5 cents a plastic bag here. We just use reuseable plastic boxes.
You know, the first time I was asked that, I thought they were asking if I wanted to pay with cash or a credit card. I don't know who got more confused, me or the cashier.
Anyway, many places anymore don't give me a choices, only having plastic bags. Unfortunate, since if I get a lot of groceries I would much prefer paper bags.
Well, almost all the grocery stores around here still offer both.
Being a grocery stocker/night manager I am called upon to bag from time to time. Hell, even the store director bags at times, nobody is free from that.
Though to get the front end to help us to stock the shelves, we "don't" hear when the page us, or we take a very long time. They know when we're . Whenever there are no customers they just sit on their butt's talking. Never bothering to help, though they are supposed to (unless the store director is a liar, which he is not).
There are a very few who do help, and we immediately answer their pages.
I like paper for my recycling bins, plastic for my indoor trash cans. I thought both were easily recyclable, yet San Fran seems to favor paper. I guess I have more to learn. By default I've always gone paper...
