I know of it through Riasanovsky. It was reasonably important enough to have English documentation about it, it resulted in their disbandment.

EDIT: So I imagine any book about Peter the Great, his reign, or his life, will have at least some information about it. Check it out (maybe Massie's book?) and check out what their sources are, to get to the heart of the matter.

Wasn't there a revolution abolishing serfdom? Personally I would do the Revolution of 1905 and how that doomed the Tzarist regime because it showed the people their "Little Father" was instead "Bloody Nicholas."
