Paradigm Shift Reboot! Queen of Culture 2

OK, as promised (but later than expected), here is the rest of the 2nd session update...

Cathy Queen of Culture 2 - round 2 part 3 (to 500BC)

Hatty just built the temple of Solomon. I carry on with a barracks in the capital, which is now running a scientist again.

Civ4ScreenShot0178-2.jpg

Hatty is still building missionaries...

Civ4ScreenShot0179-2.jpg

Worker continues building a road between Moscow and St. Pete.

Civ4ScreenShot0180-2.jpg

Horse are pasteurised now, so road 'em. As I said to Hatty when she was taking a bath in asses milk "Is that milk pasteurised?", "No, it only comes up to my..." well, you get the idea.

Civ4ScreenShot0182-2.jpg

Pasture helps my barracks finish quicker

Civ4ScreenShot0184-2.jpg

Back to running 2 scietists in Moscow. I also go for a settler to get the iron. There's no rush though.

Civ4ScreenShot0187-2.jpg

I start chopping a mine here, the chop will complete after maths, and a mine will increase production on the pyramids.

Civ4ScreenShot0189-3.jpg

More archers here

Civ4ScreenShot0191-3.jpg

Another missionary for Hats. She is weird.

Civ4ScreenShot0192-3.jpg

I can finally build chariots.

Civ4ScreenShot0193-3.jpg

So I switch the archer build at St. Petes too

Civ4ScreenShot0195-3.jpg

Maths is in so I can chop the mids and an invasion force

Civ4ScreenShot0196-3.jpg

And I decide to go for currency next instead of pottery (workers busy chopping), to try and get the religion for code of laws. I'll probably go pottery after currency though.

Civ4ScreenShot0197-3.jpg

Hatty finally builds a settler...

Civ4ScreenShot0198-3.jpg

My warrior fogbusts for the settler who will settle near this iron.

Civ4ScreenShot0201-3.jpg

Mine is built here, adding a chop for the pyramids. I should be in with a chance of getting them, I have other forests to chop or already pre-chopped.

Civ4ScreenShot0203-3.jpg

More chariots now, and I have a great scientist who I use to build an academy in Moscow.

Civ4ScreenShot0206-3.jpg

Hatty finally gets another city, on the gold hill. I would have put it 1N of there. She sent most of her archers ther to garrison it.

Civ4ScreenShot0208-3.jpg

She only leaves 1 archer to defend her desirable capital.

Civ4ScreenShot0209-3.jpg

Settler on the way to the iron/fish/cow site

Civ4ScreenShot0211-3.jpg

Cathy Queen of Culture 2 - round 2 part 4 (to 500BC)

Only 2 more pics left...

Dowmn to 12 turns for currency with the academy

Civ4ScreenShot0212-3.jpg

And the victory conditions screen

Civ4ScreenShot0213-3.jpg

Here's the save:

I wouda have attacked hatty many turns ago, despite the 60% def. you could whip out 12-15 warriors in 30 turns. taking too long to wipe out one ai on a iso start.

I don't see how a warrior rush or an archer rush would have worked. She has a high pop capital and they would have taken many turns to get there. She could easily whip another 3 archers in that time. With chariots I can surprise attack, and be there in a turn after the DoW.

besides the city isn't getting any worse whilst you are sitting watching it, she's just building money for you when you take it!

With one archer defending 3-4 chariots should have been enough...

Yep, not noticing horse city potential was a big error on my part. But chariots are on their way now so everything should be cool again.

She has been building missionaries and shrines for you, so it's not that bad.

I agree. The icing on the cake would be if she bulbed Theocracy for Christianity before I attack ;)

Does anyone know whether shrines keep the +5 culture if you conquer them? I know wonders don't give you culture.

I played a shadow to 1 AD. And no, I didn't read the thread past page 1 beforehand.

Spoiler :

I went 1E with settler like I suggest ages ago. Opened up AG then fishing, worker first. I then went archery since barbs are on and I don't like taking chances with them. That's what happens when you get sloppy - a worker with nothing to do for a while although the boats did get out fast with the mine and farm...still likely not optimal.

I popped a scout with a hut and thus explored the entire island quickly and easily - one scout even survived fogbust duties for a long time. First two cities I settled were very aggressive towards hatty to steal her gold and flood plains. After archery I went BW, pottery, AH, IW, priesthood, writing. @ Writing I took open borders and scouted hatty. Yeah...no metal. At all. Weak island for strat resources in general, although there IS some inconveniently placed iron, and the 2nd city I built to block her had horses! Chariots!

So, I chopped a bunch o chariots out (I especially did this because of where she put her 2nd city):

Not a hard war:

1ADeast0000.jpg

Thebes is a top notch GP farm and will be used as such. Since I missed a lot of early religions I'll play a large part of this game like normal, probably winning culture off of a combination of corps, cottages, etc driving culture up. I've been meaning to test what a city like Thebes can do with caste when I REALLY make a specialist city, so here's my chance.

With CoL in also I can REX the rest of the island for a decent city count and move from there. Since I have religion maybe I can bulb philosphy and still manage to bulb astro...otherwise i'll just do the lib path like normal.

I'll read the spoiler once I play past 1AD.

Ugh. I HATE culture. Where's the blood? I DID win that victory, in pitiful 1920 AD fashion. Godonut and wastintime would shudder in horror, among others. Good luck, shifter! I have little doubt you'll do this better than me.

I haven't forgotten about this game, have been playing the HoF gauntlets for the last few weeks, GMajor 36 & 38 (both submitted) and am in the middle of GMaj37.

I'll play the next round tomorrow night or over the weekend.

GMaj17 abandoned due to lack of time and being out-teched by a warlords game (Prince AI). LOL.

I'll play the next round tomorrow night folks.

Well, I had a civ few couple of days and I played the next round. It was truly awful play ;) didn't realise the reason I couldn't bulb philo was bcos I han't researched meditation.

Anyway, I got the mids and Hatty still isn't dead, at 740AD. Oh dear :(

Here is the next update!

Cathy Queen of Culture 2 - part 3 (to 740AD)

It's been a while since the last update so I'll begin with a refresher of the state of our continent

Civ4ScreenShot0000-3.jpg

Hatty has 2 cities now.

Building Chariots and the pyramids.

Civ4ScreenShot0001-3.jpg

Military situation

Civ4ScreenShot0002-3.jpg

Power, this looks OK

Civ4ScreenShot0003-1.jpg

Hatty's poorly defended capital

Civ4ScreenShot0004-3.jpg

So I start building a road on the tile where I will assemble my army

Civ4ScreenShot0005-3.jpg

I've only got 1 chariot so far though

Civ4ScreenShot0006-3.jpg

And here is the settler on the way to the iron, while a worker chops for the mids

Civ4ScreenShot0007-2.jpg

Iron city goes here...

Civ4ScreenShot0008-3.jpg

And gets a barracks as its first build

Civ4ScreenShot0009-3.jpg

There's a barb archer lurking about too

Civ4ScreenShot0010-3.jpg

When this gets built it should be able to deal with it though

Civ4ScreenShot0011-3.jpg

Pyramid progress

Civ4ScreenShot0012-3.jpg

Hatty gets a great prophet. Unfortunately she didn't bulb Theology with it. Although maybe fortunatly because that would give her more XP if she switched to theocracy (since she is spiritual), although her favourite civic is Organised Religion I believe.

Civ4ScreenShot0013-3.jpg

First chariot is built in the capital

Civ4ScreenShot0014-3.jpg

So it zips off to take on the barb archer

Civ4ScreenShot0015-3.jpg

It wins. I'd pulled my archer from Hatty's 2nd city back just in case though.

Civ4ScreenShot0016-3.jpg

Temple of Artemis gets built

Civ4ScreenShot0017-3.jpg

Troops start moving to the assembly point

Civ4ScreenShot0019-3.jpg

It's going OK so far, it gets better, and then worse ;)

Cathy Queen of Culture 2 - round 3 part 2 (to 740AD)

Hatty is still converting all my cities to her religion. I haven't adopted it yet, I'm too busy building units to kill her to want anarchy. I'm not sure if the "we will fight our brothers and sisters of the faith" penalty is worse if you have the religion as your state religion (note to self: i really should know that)

Civ4ScreenShot0020-3.jpg

I go for code of laws next, hoping for the religion

Civ4ScreenShot0022-3.jpg

Mids nearly done

Civ4ScreenShot0023-3.jpg

I get the mids! A library next, it's too far away from the front this city and hasn't got a barracks.

Civ4ScreenShot0027-3.jpg

Hatty has finally built another settler

Civ4ScreenShot0028-3.jpg

I switch to representation, I'll be running this for the rest of the game I think

Civ4ScreenShot0029-3.jpg

3 archers in the capital, 2 with CG1. I need quite a few chariots I think

Civ4ScreenShot0030-3.jpg

Iron hooked up (but only to Yaroslavl'), build a pasture on the cow.

Civ4ScreenShot0032-3.jpg

Barracks is done here, I go for swordsmen as backup since Hatty has no metals for axes.

Civ4ScreenShot0034-3.jpg

This looks pretty healthy now... I'm not going to do a BurN on you and go "You thought that was my stack, take a look at this stack (screeny with about 90 units), this should get us quite far!". It's too early for that ;)

Civ4ScreenShot0035-3.jpg

Ahh poor Hatty, she is so nice in all of my games. Declare war? O RLY? YA RLY!

Civ4ScreenShot0036-3.jpg

Backup starts being produced too

Civ4ScreenShot0037-3.jpg

This is why I like a chariot rush (at the moment), you can get there really quick before they can whip defenders.

Civ4ScreenShot0038-3.jpg

Odds are pretty poor though, so I promote the first wave to withdrawal. You can see where Hatty sent her settler to as well here.

Civ4ScreenShot0038-3.jpg

Fast forward a bit, attack is going pretty well

Civ4ScreenShot0045-3.jpg

Now I go with combat chariots

Civ4ScreenShot0046-3.jpg

Last defender...

Civ4ScreenShot0047-3.jpg

And now I have a Neil Kinnock moment "Alllriiight! We're alllrrriiiight!!!"

Civ4ScreenShot0048-3.jpg

It's a good city, with a shrine and Stonehenge.

Civ4ScreenShot0049-3.jpg

Go Go Cathy Queen of Culture!!!
