Paradox Interactive games

I haven't seen the release, but at this point I sort of expect it to be Europa Universalis IV. It's been 5 years since the release of EU3 and the Clausewitz engine, and I can't imagine they're expecting to wring too much more money out of those. There's also little doubt that if they release a new engine, it will ship with an EU title.

Thus, I expect (and wouldn't mind seeing) a new engine and a new EU.

I'd like it to be Rome 2, personally, but if EU IV comes out, I guess I'll have to buy it like everyone else. :)

EUIII can last in the modding community for another few years. Another expansion with a focus on India or something along with tons of new modding opportunities is what the series needsm ore than a new game.

If it's a new EU, I hope they do a damn good job on it.

That's what is disheartening about many strategy games. When the company releases a whole new title in the series, chances are it's gonna take many patches, mods and a couple of expansion packs before it holds a candle to the previous game in its current advanced state.

Also, i just realized italics don't show up in quotes. Regina's hint should read:
Is this the game you have been waiting for?

Or maybe that that particular place is represented on the map as a province/city/holding/whatever?

I'd like it to be Rome 2 or the long awaited dark ages game; I think EU3 still has a reasonable amount of life in it.

How the hell does that narrow anything down? All of their maps include Sweden/Europe!
Sengoku didn't and Rome only included the southern third of Sweden so depending on where Balor spent his summers it might not have been in that game either.

I don't know about EU3 and life left in it. Consider this game is probably a good year and maybe more away; that would put the hypothetical release around the seventh anniversary of three.

That's a mighty long time for a game. And it's longer than the distance between II and III.

Well I did only get EU3 within the last year or so, so I'm probably not a good authority on how fresh it is. :p

My reasoning behind it being Rome is that its the only main Paradox grand strategy game on the Europa engine that hasn't been upgraded to Clausewitz, and it seems to be fairly requested (although hint 2 perplexes me).

My suspicion is that Rome 1 did not do well enough for a Rome 2 to be made. I may be wrong.
I'm hoping its either EU4 or better yet a Dark Ages game.

Whatever it is, we'll know at GamesCom in Cologne (August 15-19)

Well, from what I heard, the first Victoria didn't sell very well either, but it got a sequel that has performed well (and resulting in the shaved head of a CEO).

its the only main Paradox grand strategy game on the Europa engine that hasn't been upgraded to Clausewitz,

It's just about the complete opposite of that: one of the only two main Paradox grand strategy games that never were on the Europa engine to begin with.

Just the graphics

Paradox switched to Clausewitz in 2007 (for EU III). Rome came a year after that, around the same time In Nomine was announced. It doesn't need "upgraded to Clausewitz"; it's already a Clausewitz game.

I'm thinking I'd be rather surprised if we saw any of the Paradox game series get dual entries on Clausewitz. But if we do I agree Rome is the likely contender.

Honestly? We ARE going to see EU IV very soon. It may not be Project Truman; but it will be here by the 2014-ish frame (give or take a year)

1. EU III is getting old. Divine Wind brought it new life, but it pales in comparison to the latest Clausewitz generation, especially CK II
2. They're running out of time periods to cover on Clausewitz*. They need a new engine to really justify remaking them all. And that means Europa Universalis.
3. The new DLC/patch policy. EU III is stuck on the expansion-based model, but you can be sure they want their flagship getting that juicy DLC action.

*Especially with East vs West and March of Eagles.

They said something about a revolutionary trade system. Because Vicky 2 isn't tired out just yet (I can easily see another expansion, maybe WWI) and EU3's trading system is terrible, my guess is EU4.
