Patch 1.21 bugs & problems.

But.....on the pre-1.21f saved games, you are stuck with the new system. Save and reload, you get a different result. Can't set it so that the random numbers are the same on reload.

Anyone know how to fix that?

This patch is crap! The science advisor now gives you advice that actually reflects the game situation! Obviously, glitchy beyond belief.

Maybe a new bug : I'm at war, and an opposing soldier lands in my land. My citizen can't work there (becomes a specialist) and I starve before I get my first move. Maybe this is intentional, or maybe it's always done this?

It worked this way before. If an enemy is fortified on one of your tiles, your citizens cannot work that particular tile. You can do this to the AI as well.

No offense but you don't have any idea what you are talking about. I am an OEM system builder, meaning my company builds custom PC's of all configurations and we upgrade/repair as well. ME and Windows 95 are the 2 worst OS's that Microsoft ever released! Fact!
Now if you want to keep having problems in general keep that ME. I was trying to help by suggesting picking up XP. The $99.00 is something most people do not know and pay the full price of $150.00-300.00 (depending on full or upgrade version, full version clean install recommended.)
ME is the reasons you are having troubles with civ3. Civ3 is full of bugs still though. It will be a long time (if ever) before we get a decent patch too resolve issues. Firaxis will NOT make cvi3 work just for ME.
Wait till you start getting shut down issues, go to shut down and it will tell you to protection error, restart your PC. Only way to fix this problem is too reinstall windows. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've heard plenty of complaints about XP. The bug doesn't happen often enough (maybe once every 20 or so hours of actual gameplay) for me to bother spending $99 on it. And in probably a couple of months there will be a new version of windows out...at least we get 'free upgrades' with Firaxis. :)

First few times I played with new patch (anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour) no problems.

Today I played for a couple of hours and got the 'error in SOUND.DLL' error and game crashed. Reloaded the game and everything was fine. Finally quit and when back at the desktop, the menu bar at the bottom of the screen (for Windows ME) was gone. I have to hit the 'windows' key to shut down. Both of these errors occured (rarely) in v1.17f and earlier patches, so not really a new bug.

But then when I did go to shut down I got the message 'program is not responding' window. Was unable to 'End Task', and 'Wait' for program to close did nothing. Had to eventually pull the plug.

You have an IRQ sharing problem between your sound card and your video card.they are on the same irq and interfere with each other.you could try to re-install the drivers for both cards.(device manager)a better option is to get either the sound or video card on another irq.i don't know if Wme will let you do this.

J does work with arty. the 'bug' was operator error. it seems that i told the arty to go somewhere and it was in the middle of the move (1 of 3 spaces or something), so it said active but it was busy or something like that. again, i really wish there were additional group movement options. in age of empires you just drag a box around movements to highlight them then move. sure would be nice...... maybe if lots of people chirp in firaxis will offer a wake and move command, go to sleep or fortify all in stack, just move non fortified, etc.

also i've had few probs with civ3 and winXP pro. not that anyone might care but under win98 se internet explorer was crashing every five minutes or less. prob went away with XP. also, i love the speed of the new patch. time between turns went from 2 minutes to seconds.

I'm sure you are more qualified than me on OS. But I don't see why I should spend $99 on something to fix a bug that happens only once every 20 hours of gameplay. It only takes a minute to reload and continue the game (thank god for auto-save!). Is saving a couple of minutes of my time worth $99? I have played for several more hours today and nothing has happened. I don't get any errors in any other program. IF, and only if, I ever get the shutdown-protection error, then I guess I will have to upgrade, but this has not happened yet in the year or so that I have owned windows ME. And no, I wasn't expecting Civ3 to work for ONLY windows ME, just thought I would alert them to a problem that they could look into, and if it is something easy to fix, they could do so, to make more consumers happy. Thanks for alerting all of us of the special deal on Windows XP, though :).

Thank you marshalljames for your suggestion, I'll check into that.

I just saw a worker complete a road and mine on a plain in one turn has this happened to anyone else? I was on a mountain and the worker comes by and in one turn poof a road and mine:eek:

I had a very weird bug... it happened only once and I cannot reproduce it, but this is what happened...
My automated (shift A) workers returned to a city after cleaning some pollution and they were shot dead by my mech inf!!! about 6 of them were killed when they tried to enter the city...

Well... I had like 200 workers or something around so I didn't really miss them but it was still strange

I was the French and just finished dropping over 50 ICBMs on the Americans after they surprised attack me by attacking my nuc submarine with a battleship with eight nukes on board. And then they stole Rome from me. After dropping over 50 nukes on them, they still had quite a bit of power. So I planned on an invasion with modern armor but as my tanks hit the shore and the Americans bombed a few of my frontier cities the game crashed. That just totally sucked! I did change some of the unit attributes. That could have caused it to crashed maybe. I also added the ability for the tactical nuke to have the rebase option to avoid the tediousness of having to load them. But everything worked fine until 2054 and the game crashed. Maybe it was a nuclear winter caused by a nuclear holocaust. Oh well. Must start a new game.

There are lots of useful suggestions in this thread for a very wide range range of problems. However is it just me that does not find these catch all stickies very helpful. eg if someone has a particular problem they must manualy search through nine+ pages.
That takes a long time.
Would it not be better to simply have threads that deal with particular issues.

That happened prior to the v1.21f patch to a few people, myself included. It seems to happen well after 2000 A.D. and after or during a nuclear war. At least you only lost 6 workers, try losing 50-100 of them .

Another bug I had in a succession game. But this was continuing from a v1.17f save, so it probably had to do with that. I had a city on another continent that did not have a harbor, and no access to coal, yet a worker was building railroads near it. I like that bug though :D .

Everything seems to be fine for me. But, I have one small question-- it seems that the patch has capped the maximum food production from a tile to 2. So even irrigated grassland produces only 2 food now (Even though the editor says grassland produces 2 food and irrigation gives an additional one unit of food). Is there any way to change that?

Am I correct in guessing that you were in Despotism at the time?

I've yet to get much playing time in on 1.21, but I'm willing to bet that what you are seeing are the Despotism penalties on food production rather than a 1.21 bug. Under despotism, any tile that produces more than 2 food has 1 food subtracted from its output. Irrigated grasslands produce 3 food, so 1 food is subtracted from what you get from that tile. If you had a wheat or cow tile and irrigated it, you'd get more than 2 food on that tile even under Despotism, and any irrigated grasslands would yield 3 food when you switch to Monarchy or Republic.

Thank you for clarification.
I suspect that the culprit was the governmental system, however, I just couldnt quite confirm it.

Thanks man.

My, my.

I'm seeing a lot of crashing posts around here today.

I know my game crashed around 1200 AD after I Edited some units.

Not a good sign at all.

this may have been answered already (i only read 4 of the 9 pages

[/B]

slider is in civeditor, under difficulty settings

i didnt uninstall first, and had no compatability issues, but if you are, maybe you should try uninstalling the other patches first, or reinstalling the entire game for that matter (I had to reinstall everything when patch1.17 screwed it up :( )
