Do you think the programmers at Firaxis are mindless robots?! They need their food, sleep, rest and stuff-that-isn't-work activities just like us.

I for one am glad that they are releasing such a large patch, and telling us about it in advance. It's keeping us informed, and good communication goes far.

I realy don't think that there are people in here who say that the programmers sould work harder just to satisfy our will,i am sure that they always try to do their best in a very short period of time.
When the anouncment for the new patch was out everyone expressed their surprise and appreciation for the size of the patch that not only has to fix bugs, but it will influence the aspect of the game also(at least from what we read). So it is logical that from the moment we have this information we will ask over and over again, personaly i would prefer not having this information but only the patch. This story is repeating every time, after the announcement,we ask.
We like the game,we buy and play it and 2K/Firaxis are taking in considaration the people in here to imrove their product. This is an economical relation and it is right,so since we are the customers we ask of them to be more consistent.Personaly i despise the fact that today most of the games needs at least a major patch to work well, more money at publishing and less to the programmers(i am not one) and the time needed to develop it.This fact creates a superstirtion, and when this fact repeats itself,we express ourselves in the way we do.

White Elk said it very well indeed.

Edit: Lobsang1979 made the right question i believe. What can we do as customers?

I have never found the game to be anywhere near buggy enough to warrant not buying it til the patch came out. Im much happier having played the game in this time and having a few fixes when the patch somes out.

My thought is that since rhetorical questions are, by definition, asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information, we shouldn't answer. :nono:

(Besides, one of my favorite jokes is: "What kind of fool asks a rhetorical question?" )

Ha, true, introspection rather than replies would probably save server space here.

The "any thoughts" invitation was not rhetorical though JFLNYC, as it was seeking people's own viewpoints on how they view game purchasing to be affecting the standard of products. The rhetorical question was the first one, as I do not really expect everyone to tell me when they bought their game (whether it was on day of release as you did, or whether it was a few months on as I did). The rhetorical question was to make the statement that those who buy the game at release should be getting a well balanced product, but in fact are not and thus probably suffer more from the effects of 'waiting for patch' fatigue, i.e. understandable frustration.

3.03 sounds like a disaster! What else did it stuff up?

Alexman: Could we have an update please. It is now one week since your first post. Did the patch run into any issues during testing or is this the time the normal procedure takes.

I am not complaining about anything but I am very interested in and would be grateful for a progress report.

Not *that* much actually. The unreliable combat animations are confirmed, and there are also reports of crashes, but these might or might not be caused by 3.03. The main reason that people don't use 3.03 is that, apart from fixing one issue with Vista and bundling a new DirectX version with the patch file, it doesn't really do anything *good* - it doesn't fix anything that hasn't been fixed by 3.02 already. So there's really no reason to switch from 3.02 to 3.03.

3.03 introduces crashes when moving between unique buildings and units and their normal counterparts in the civilopedia. This is not a "may be" issue.

Agreed.

I can relate to what you said, my game purchasing habits have changed in the same way. I never buy a game on release day, with two exceptions: a) I can play a demo that shows me that I'll like the game in its current state, or b) the game is made by Firaxis or Stardock. These are the two companies that (so far) have never disappointed me in their dedication to patch and improve the products I bought from them. (This is no invitation to botch things up however ... there was a third company in this category, but it lost my trust due to marketing lies.)

I actually wonder why so many people choose to buy products they haven't tried yet from companies they don't really trust.

I buy 2 or 3 games a year, and this year I bought the MMO "Vanguard - Saga of Heroes". Now THATS a buggy game - I played 1 month and didnt subscribe for it any more. And after that month, I read a bit about SOE's history in gaming. I am never ever, ever buying a SOE game again.

The publishers are killing many games before release because they want profit asap. Take2 is about to head down that slope too, and Im loosing Goodwill towards Take2. Just my personal opinion.

Sorry, didn't mean to snap, but I had to reinstall because of that ;)

You didn't snap - I wasn't ironic (if that's how you read my post, which would be perfectly understandable given that the irony level in this thread has hit the roof recently ;) ). I actually *am* grateful when I forget something and someone sets it right. After all, the person who asked now has a much better answer than if you hadn't added the missing piece of info. :)

Man, I hope they release the patch later today, or else we will most likely have to wait until this time next week :(

On another note, as a last minute balance change, they should BUFF THE CELTS. Not their leaders, the Civ. Bad UU and UB :( Possibly the worst.

We cant all be winners :whipped:

We cant all be Praetorians :whipped:

Fixed. ;)

Really though, it would be nice if the UU got another ability or at least a Str bonus...

And the walls...I dont know, lol. I rarely build very many walls, and then only in cities bordering a Civ I know I am about to attack :(

It's more balanced the way it is. Boudica (^^) Char/Aggr! It gets balanced out with the bad UU and UB. :D

I want to play Brennus though :(

Not much of a warmonger
