On another note, as a last minute balance change, they should BUFF THE CELTS. Not their leaders, the Civ. Bad UU and UB Possibly the worst.

Are you kidding me? It means that with a barracks and vassalage/theocracy/settled GG, you can crank out infantry units with a 50% withdrawal chance that can sprint across hills like horses.

That's awesome.

50% withdrawal for melee??? It is NOT bad, specially combined with aggressive + CHA. Haha, you get already combat I and 50% withdraw + double movement on hills pretty early. Not bad, not after I gave a try as Brennus(was not even baudica(spell)!) anyway. A good CIV as it is.

Fixed. ;)

Really though, it would be nice if the UU got another ability or at least a Str bonus...

And the walls...I dont know, lol. I rarely build very many walls, and then only in cities bordering a Civ I know I am about to attack :(

I think the walls are fine as they are. Afterall its a game of strategy, not a zombiebrain-like game where you build the same in every city.

Curiosities:
In Civ 4 there isn't: Jerusalem in any city list!
But: Macao and Macau (1st Portuguese, 2nd Chinese) appear 2x
And on the Greeks city list, the city Sicyon appear 2x also!!!

Add the city's:
Alexandria to the Greeks;
Jerusalem to Rome or Byzantium;
Cairo to Egypt;
Funchal and Ponta Delgada to Portugal;
Dublin to the Celts!

When is it supposed to be out? I thought they said this week. :hmm:
That is exactly what I was looking for in this thread -- I'm guessing by your post the answer is not here? Thanks for saving me reading through 80bazillion pages :)

FWIW, I second the request for an update on ETA. alexman in the OP said it was done, but not quite in time to make it out that week. Which seems to imply that it should have easily been out this week???

Hmm, I wonder if perhaps the programming was done, but the testing was not?

You cant be serious?? :lol: Every second post is like that :D

I've just finished my first camapign of BtS and I want to begin a new campaign. Should I wait until the patch is released or is the new patch going to be saved game compatible? Thanks in advance

That's because there's no Israel/Hebrew civ. Dublin isn't Celtic, it's Irish, and the two are different. The Celts as they are in Civ4 don't represent the modern Celtic nations, neither do the Egyptians represent modern Arabic Egypt (hence no Cairo).

It is supposed to be compatible - so go ahead :)

You know what bothers me? The Ottoman empire has Istanbul, but Byzantium has Constantinople. They're the same city! Shouldn't having both civs exist at the same time rip the time space continuum in twain*?

*(not Shania)

Well, there isn't really a good alternative imho. Having a Ottoman civilization without Istanbul would certainly feel even more odd, and having a Byzantine civilization without the city that was the *only* major Byzantine city for centuries would be outright silly. The way it's currently handled, the problem at least only shows in a limited number of games, when both civilizations happen to be on the map.

There are some other "twin cities", like Macao / Macau (Portugal / China), Vienna / Vienne (HRE / Celts) etc.

But why does this problem make you wanting to rip something apart inside of Mark Twain? ;)

Well I guess the reasoning for Macau being included twice is because of the nature of the city. It was originally a Portugese colony, but was given to China (same way Hong Kong was given to China). Macau is the English spelling of the Chinese city called - ào mén,Macao; Aomen. The city is a sister city of Macao, of Portugese mention.

Interistingly, I just found out that there actually is a Portuguese municipality called Macao - although I doubt that the devs thought about that one when they put the name in the list, it seems quite small. However, purists might find reconciliation in the thought that there's a Portuguese Macao (and a Chinese Macau) in reality as well. :)

I have a feeling you're going to be able to get several games in before the patch is released. :cry:

So, Alexman, when you told us that the patch won't be out "this week", you forgot to mention that it won't be out the next week either.
Or maybe you were convinced that it would come out within a few days back then but didn't think it necessary to tell us when that changed?

Know what I mean with "bad information management" now?

No, I really don't. Alex doesn't have the authority to release the patch. He's not in control of the schedule. He is under no obligation to give us any information about the patch whatsoever. While I'd agree that it'd be nice if someone were to keep us "in the loop", so to speak, there's no onus on them to do so. All the whining and complaining that I see about the patch certainly gives them no incentive to post here.

The patch will be out when it's out. That's all we need to know. Stop creating a personal expectation on the release date and then blaming it on Firaxis when they don't meet it.

I don't think you get what I'm saying. I know perfectly well that Alexman has no influence on the release date. And that he (or anyone else) is not obliged to keep us updated on anything.

All I'm saying is that a company shouldn't create expectations and then silently not fullfill them. They can either create the expactation and deliver or they can create it and not deliver but give out updated information. Or they can just not create it in the first place. All this would be fine with me.
Firaxis/2kGames (and I really don't care who is responsible) chose to do neither and that just raises frustration.
So why am I posting this? Well, first of all I wouldn't mind that updated information I mentioned above. Secondly, it might help them to prevent this bad PR next time.
And it *is* bad PR. That *you* don't mind doesn't mean everyone agrees with you. And as far as I know you're not their only customer.

(And don't give me that "personal expectation" BS, nearly everyone was expecting a release this week after he explicitely said they didn't manage it last week).

Edit: Or, to make it even more clear to you: I am communicating to Firaxis&Co that I, as their customer, am not satisfied with how they handle this. Since they don't have their own forums and we all know they read this and I am sure I'm not the only one, I post it here.
Whether Firaxis&Co act on this or take it into account is entirely their decision and not yours. I have as much the "right" to voice my opinion as anyone else.

Agree! Couldnt have said it better :)

(And don't give me that "personal expectation" BS, nearly everyone was expecting a release this week after he explicitely said they didn't manage it last week).

So your argument is that because "nearly everyone" made the same personal expectation that you did, that doesn't make it a personal expectation? Not a very convincing argument. You admit that you know Alex has no control over the release date, and then turn around and base your expectation off the assumption he does. Otherwise, why would you have an expectation that it'd be released this past week?

And if you read his post, you'll note that it makes it very clear that control over the release date isn't in Firaxis' control. While I'm sure a lot of people were hoping it would get released this week (heck, I'm among them), no one should have formed an expectation that it would.

Whether Firaxis&Co act on this or take it into account is entirely their decision and not yours. I have as much the "right" to voice my opinion as anyone else.

Oh, please, cut the martyred approach. Yes, you have the "right" to voice your opinion. And I have the "right" to say your opinion is unrealistic.
