CORINTHIANS

Corinth proposes that the city of Eleusis remains an independent city under the joint protection of Athens and Corinth.

Corinth declares the cities of Sicyon, Phlius, Mycenae & Epdaurus as protectorates. Any violation of these cities will be seen as a direct threat to the security of Corinth and an act of war.

Corinth proposes that the city of Argos remains an independent city under the joint protection of Sparta and Corinth.

Corinth welcomes traders from all nations with no tariffs.

IONIANS
Ionia claims the island of Euboia as its sovereign territory and declares Tanagra a protectorate.

Ionia also welcomes traders from all nations with no tariffs.

Reminder of house rules:

Colonists can only be built by size 6 cities (you will need Polis tech and irrigation improvement to reach size 6 in most cities plus Colonization tech to build Colonists).

If you receive a new city through a goody hut you should use the cheat menu (save, rename as .sav, open game and cheat menu, disband city and cheat build a Colonist, save, rename save to .hot, load in hotseat and add back other players with Control+J) please disband and replace with a Colonist unit (no home city).

Don't forget your capital cities have the gold reserve improvement that can be sold for emergency cash.

Athenian Trade Policy

The Athenians welcome well mannered* traders from any nation to trade tariff free as long as their home country extends the same privilege to Athenian traders.

Etruscan Trade Policy

The Etruscans welcome well mannered* traders from any nation to trade tariff free as long as their home country extends the same privilege to Etruscan traders.

*Well mannered traders do not obstruct access to harbours with their ships and ask permission before camping near cities. I reserve the right to disperse (kill) unannounced traders that obstruct necessary activities.

Athenian Diplomacy

The Athenians agree to the permanent independence of Eleusis, jointly guaranteed by Athens and Corinth.

Athens concedes Sicyon, Phlius and Mycenae to be outside Athenian influence. Athens is willing to enter into a joint guarantee of independence for the city of Epdaurus, but cannot agree to direct control of the city by Corinth (or any other power).

The Athenians will not consent to the occupation of Tiryns by another power.

Athens recognizes Spartan and Corinthian influence on Argos to be much greater than her own. In the interests of preventing war, Athens is willing to also guarantee the independence of Argos, if both the Corinthians and Spartans agree to this.

Athens agrees not to attack Tanagra.

Athens agrees Euboia to be the sovereign territory of Ionia.

Athens intends to annex the island Aegina at the appropriate time.

Etruscan Diplomacy

The Etruscans have no opinion on the petty territorial squabbles of the Greeks.

Corinth and Ionia agree to theses points (except for the pettiness of our squabbles ;) )
Spectator Comment - No one ever agrees their own squabbles are petty... :P

In Sparta the Gerousia meets to speak on the news that some Hellenic city states have claimed ownership of other city states by word alone, and claimed yet others should remain free, again by word alone.

Claims are made by force, not words.

Sparta has claimed Gytheum.

...

Any ship from any corner of the world shall find refuge in the docks of Carthage. All visitors are reminded to keep their manners, and keep from hindering the locals in going about their affairs.

The current state of affairs seems a bit chaotic, as no one seems to know quite what is in demand and what is being offered. Tyrian purple being sold, no doubt, but not a single man is really sure.

Bringing life to the docks and markets of the greatest city of the mediterranean will take time, but it shall surely be worth it.

CORINTHIANS
The colony of Callipolis founded on the heel of Magna Graecia as a trading outpost. The colonists originated from a nearby Polis that Corinthian explorers had discovered. These explorers persuaded the colonists to ally with the Corinthian League and abandon their struggling inland settlement to found the new colony of Callipolis on the coast where they could fish and hopefully attract merchants in the future.

IONIANS
An alliance is signed with King Croesus of the Lydians (at the cost of 250 gold drachmas). King Croesus is believed to be the richest in all of the known world and it is hoped that with Lydia's overland trade connections and the Ionian Greeks extensive merchant fleet both parties will prosper.

News in the east:

Sparta claims Tegea.

On the southern shores of Anatolia Spartan explorers find a failed greek colony. Work egins to move the colonists to a more fruitful spot. (A city formed, I could not immediately create a unit via cheat because I do not have the technology. I instead used the "edit city" function to change shield count of the project so that the colonist will be built immediately next turn, and the city disbanded.)

...

News in the west: Little to report. Our merchants brought goods to Athens, perhaps the first of many. The trade was of little value.

The Etruscans have no news.

In World Events, A new Strategos has risen to lead the Corinthians to Victory.

The Athenians warmly welcome the traders from Carthage. Trade payments are capped around 200 at this point, since we have so few technologies.

McMonkey, isn't there a make war event with the Lydians every turn? Seems kind of strange to pay for an alliance under those circumstances.

Little of note happens among the people under Spartan hegemony.

...

In Carthage, too, another year goes by without much of note.

No events of note among the Etruscans.

No World Events.

The Athenians have nothing to report.

CORINTHIANS
The colony of Sybaris is founded in the arch of the foot () of Magna Graecia.

IONIANS
Ionian settlers found the colony of Tenos on the island of the Cyclades archipeligo.

Could I propose the house rule of not occupying colony sites with military units? This will prevent a land grab with units acquired from goody huts. Colonies must be founded on a first come, first served basis. What do you guy's think? By all means, lay claim to certain areas or sites as I have done with Euboea, but just plopping military units on all the prime sites, years in advance of any colonists becoming available to settle them just seems unrealistic to me.
