PCSG2: Lalibela's Eleven Churches

I'd SIP ... no need to irrigate to Corn as it will flow there through the city, it still keeps the Plains Incense in the BFC, SIP 'probably' will reduce overlap with Gold city (albeit it's too early to call a spot for that city) compared to a northerly move, bare Plains Hill 2S of SIP 'could' (??) be a resource that we'd move away from (then again, 1NW gets us to a similar Hill south of the Gold) ... but 1NW probably has a better overall food count.

I fear I'm getting repetitive, but I don't mind if you're really keen on 1NW and do that instead.

I'd be in favour of Agriculture > The Wheel > Pottery > Bronze Working > Writing, but our Scout's roaming might push us in one direction or another.

Cam's tech path looks good enough for the moment. And though I still think 1NW is marginally better it's not really an issue over SIP.

Sounds logical, CAM. I will go ahead and SIP and move the scout again and then post screenshot, save for a review and then really go into a plan.

Good news! Hut gave us 109 gold which is a lot for normal speed.

1NW would have picked up another grassland hill and more green, but SIP is fine too.

Plan should be pretty straight forward. How many turns should I play? Of course, I will post up anything interesting a long the way.

I will move the Scout in a Ring around the cap. Hopefully, we will pick off a few more huts. We can use him to fogbust temporarily as we settle.

Builds: Worker>Warriors>Worker> Settler

We could even do a 2 worker opening. I say grow to at least 3 or 4 before settler unless scouting shows that we are crunched for space.

This cap is not exactly strong on food. We may need to farm up a bit early to grow and then cottage more later when the city is set and not whipping any more.

Thanks for the update. We're rich!

Play 30 turns, although stop and consult at any point if you wish.

I'll go ahead and play some then. Let's get this thing going!

Okay, first turnset up:

Report:

Saladin and Mansa both appeared from the North. Obviously we have no one to the south and can settle that area at our leisure. It's marginal anyway although there are some good resources.

Sorry I did not scout a bit better. The scout was sniped by a hidden wolf and took several turns to heal. I figure we'd get warriors up north soon at that point.

A couple of good spots just east and west. The pigs/fp farm can be great for either cottages or excellent production. We might want that one next to fuel production of units/settlers. The eastern city could be a decent early gp farm which we might want sooner rather than later with fast libraries.

That NW warrior just fortified for the easy kill on the lion, but you could just move him away.

I guess we could move worker to other flood plain to cottage, but he could farm the tile just NE this turn. I think we need to farm some of these grassland tiles early for growth.

Dotmap is tentative.

Aksum - I improved the S PH first really as a matter of conserving worker turns. I would have liked the GH first, but calculating Pottery's close arrival after improving corn, mining the PH saved at least 2 or 3 worker turns to get back on the FP to cottage.

I went for the second worker now as I felt that it would be strong with both having the wheel and pottery already. We can chop out a settler quick and have a road ready for the trade route.

Note that we can switch from the PH to the 2nd FP to either speed the worker or speed BW. I like the worker sooner, but we can try flipping back and forth.

All looks very encouraging! :goodjob:

I can't look at the game right now, but your screenies give a good overview.

In terms of the roster - I've not heard at all from Norvin since sending him a PM a couple of days ago, so we'll skip him for this round, and if he's still MIA, we'll engage the ever-reliable services of Nocho.

Roster therefore;

lymond <<< Just played
TheFragleader <<< Up
nocho <<< On Deck
vranasm
Brian Shanahan
Norvin_Green
Cam_H

that is some great land there!

I think it is clear what we should do :-)

settle gold city next, then pigs+FP (and cottage that place)

I like the dotmap, except maybe for the sheep... will have to look in the save, but I don't like to settle cities in straight line....

almost 200gold!!! that would be some awesome teching speed...

btw how we will go about the oracle->Theo thingy?

Yeah, the cities way south are pretty marginal. The southern tip is all tundra so it was just about making the most of the land down there. We're unlikely to settle those cities for some time anyway, except maybe one to grab some furs for happiness.

Well, if we are going to Oracle>Theo, we will need Mono and Writing. Question is whether we go Writing first after BW or hit Poly>Priest and Mono>Writing or Writing>Mono. I like getting Writing Asap with Creative leaders but we may want to at least get Oracle in Process. Then Writing>Library whips>Mono.

Question: Are we required to run Christianity?

By the way, Theo gets us to Paper. We could try for an early Gunpowder trick. Tech Paper>Bulb Edu. Unleash an Oromo holocaust.

(Sorry - crosspost with lymond #50)

I agree with vranasm ... nice work on the dot mapping too. :)

I like vranasm's thinking that north is where we should be heading, and to leave the Gold resource sitting there for too long is a lost opportunity - so I too think that we must look there for either city #2 or #3. Once we get past the lions, I'd like to see a bit more of the terrain around that tile before committing to the Cows-Gold proposal.

The Sheep tile down south is 'borderline' a lost cause to me. I'd put to the roster that lymond's Fur-Fur-Corn-Crab city could go one tile south to pick up the other Fur, and we chain-irrigate from the eastern lake and across the Sheep in order to irrigate that western-coast city. Regardless, this city is not a high-priority one and we can kick around ideas for a bit yet.

That Fish-Corn-Cows proposed city to the east has me divided. One tile north west loses the Fish but picks up some juicy riverside tiles. One tile east makes it a potentially solid Moai Statues city that gives us 'wiggle room' for the placement of the Gold city. Where lymond has put it is pretty good too.

Re. Oracle: I deliberately picked non-Industrious leaders to give ourselves some breathing room in terms of Wonders ... but with that said, there are two religions founded and only Arabia starts with Mysticism (and Saladin didn't found either Hinduism or Buddhism), so there's a fair chance that some tribes will be looking at Priesthood given their religious bent. We're a fair distance from Priesthood and Masonry - so if we want it, we might have to think about deferring Writing.

Re. Saladin ... very unpopular! Massive peaceweight against him indicating either he's a warmonger among a bunch of peaceniks, or we're in for some serious conflict!

then there is the question if we don't found it ourself how we will get to spread us... from what we know it can be on the other continent eventually which will delay our finish time, because we would have to spread it around in lategame...
better to start on christianity asap would say.

but the argument being far away from Oracle is sound. If we go Oracle-->Theo I say go to -->PH before writing, then writing and backfill for theo bulb (there will be time before we pop the GP)

Keep in mind that those city sites were very tentative - just playing around with what was visible. As for where we settle first that is up in the air certainly. Nice thing about the pig city is it can get the other cities up faster potentially. But we may need to seal off better land to the north. We are a ways from our first settler and need some more scouting.

Good eye on how the religions are falling. We may have to beeline PH...but keep in mind that we will still need mono and writing before Oracle finishes.

I don't think Maoi gets much better than that whale/cow/marble city. The cow/fish/corn has a lot of GP farm potential.

you want to take Theo from Oracle?
I was thinking more about Oracle->monarchy or Oracle->Col and the first GP bulbs Theo...

Well hello. I'd love to still join if the spot is open. If so, can you slide me to the back of the roster as I'm still suffering from being sick (getting old sucks!!) and won't be able to get caught up for at least a few days.

Yeah I think Vransam is correct about the Oracle, we want to get the wonder for something, and the GPro points from it will allow us to bulb our religion. It doesn't matter how we get it, but I think a Gpro bulb is a far better shot than any other one.

Might be better to get someone else for my slot. I cannot guarantee that I can contribute much on a regular basis. I'm just playing single player when I have the time for now.
