PDF: Civ4 BtS reference sheet

Alas, I cannot print this excellent work.
The whole 24 pages of the original version occupy 5.5MB. One page, when ready for printing, bloats to 37.5MB and chokes my printer, which simply will not handle a file of that size.
Anybody got any ideas ?

Try printing a few pages at a time....set that up in your printer preferences...

I've been trying one page at a time, which is how I found out how much bloat is occurring. The printer makers (it's an HP PSC1410) tell me that only a professional-grade device would handle such large files: had I known that at the outset, I wouldn't even have tried for a print.
Anybody know how to stop the bloating ? I always thought that the .pdf system was supposed to be more or less universal in use.

Some things I noticed:
Hills are listed as giving +50% defence and +1 commerce when next to a river. Should this not be just +25% defence? The +1 commerce could lead one to believe that a grassland (2f, +1 commerce next to a river) hill (-1f, +1p, +1commerce next to a river) would give 1f, 1p, 2c when next to a river.

The Mint is listed as being the Malinese unique building, but it doesn't say what it replaces (forge).

The Ziggurat entry looks off to me, having Priesthood as a prerequisit instead of code of laws.

It's not a mistake, Ziggurat's special abilities are 25% lower cost and coming Priesthood instead of CoL. It has still another mistake, lack of mention about possible 1 Spy specialist.

Try A5 version of booklet. A5 page contains half the info of A4 versoin. So your temporary print file should be half the size (provided you print one page at once).

very very nice work... now I just have to find someone with a colour printer since mine will most certainly be emptied out of all its ink and more if I try to print this... :) :)

More typos:

- In many places, especially in the "terrain improvements" section it says "can be build" instead of "can be built"
- Page 63: I don't think the word "Unhealth" exists. The section could be renamed to "Health and Disease", "Healthiness and Unhealthiness" or simply "Health"
- On the same page you write "no unhealthy from..." in several places which IMHO is grammatically incorrect. You could put "no health penalty from...." instead.

Greetings,

Rince

Has anyone taking this to Kinkos to print out on a color laser printer and bounded?

If so, how much can I expect to spend?

Thx

I'm abusing the color printer we have at work here. Now i'm going to sneak another run in of this new version. This is simply top-notch. :goodjob:

The game uses the "Unhealthiness" term, from Factory entry: "Factories increase a city's production at the cost of adding significant unhealthiness.", so I think it should be used in these reference sheets too!

I don't think that is correct -- I think in BTS its level 4 for Heroic Epic and 6 for West Point?

Breunor

That's correct. They have been changed many times, but that's the current situation.

Thanks again dj_anion-- this thing totally rocks! Another request: could you provide a version with a simple white background? The design is awesome, but it really drains the ink in color printers. Thanks :)

Nice work, dj_anion! Far better than the manual, methinks :p.

Just a quibble and 2 sugestions:

-Quibble ( be free to add or not to your work) : when the map script creates the starting positions (after the creation of the map) it "beautifies" the surroundings. That creates some wierd effects: desert tiles next to a river ( not being floodplains ( this happens because the river is added to make the starting position better and no "floodplain check" is done later)); other times it adds resources in tiles were they shouldn't appear, like plains furs and plains deer ( I've seen both... ),...

Suggestions:

- Create a index in the left or Hyperlinking in text ( for those that don't want to print (like me :D )). Maybe even a full HTML/XML version ....

-Add a section about quests and random events ( ori wrote a thread with all the necessary info ( see it here, if you don't want to dig the XML again ;) )

Again, nice job :goodjob:

P.S On the key shortcuts, you forgot CTRL+ALT+F to enable/disable Flying Camera (see spoiler)
Spoiler :
You can use any angle and any aproach if you use the " Camera flying" feature. To do that follow this steps:

-Go to My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword and open the CivilizationIV.ini with notepad or other text editor
-Look for
; Allow Camera Flying
AllowFlying = 0
and change the 0 to 1
-In game press Ctrl+ALT+F to activate it ( same to deactivate )

The feature is deactivated by default because it would be a complete nigthmare to play with ever-shifting angles of view, but it gives nice screenshots.

P. 66 Regarding Trade Routes.

A Harbour does not offer +1 to Trade Routes - only the 50% bonus to the existing trade routes.

The Cothon gives the above bonus and the +1 to trade routes.

Revised version of 13th August
Pages 64 and 65:typo: it spells out "Mausoleum of Maussollos =50% lenght"
should spell "length"
