PDF: Civ4 BtS reference sheet

I think the best way to thank dj_anion is by proofreading the whole document, like some people are already doing.

That way we could have a perfect reference in a few days.

Rince

Exactly.
I am currently improving this reference and all your reports and sugestions are very VERY helpful.
Thank you.

If you're referring to "Aluminium", this is the correct spelling in British English and in many other languages. I suggest leaving in that way.

Rince

I would suggest that too. As far as I know, Aluminium is in Finland more used than Aluminum (in corporation names etc.).

But in the other hand, if we want to have full compatibility with the game, it should be "Aluminum" (see: Civilopedia).

Awesome work dj_anion! :goodjob:

At last you can find everything useful in one place ( forget the manual... ).

dj anion, thanx for this great guide, it is beautifully designed!
I like to make a suggestion wich (i think) could improve the ease of use: more thematic grouping instead of the alphabetical. Promotions sorted by unit-groups, the units themselves grouped under naval, melee, siege etc, buildings, resources and improvements grouped by the effects and benefits they cause. This way you can look up more efficient for actions to undertake during gameplay. Thanx again, Cheers!

Great booklets :)

But what's this with the swapping of Kublai Khan and Qin Shi Huang, and the Spearman with the Greek Phalanx?
Is it confirmed that this is the new way it should be, or may it be a bug?

Does anybody know?

Great job! Why couldn't Firaxis come up with a manual like this?

Minor edit: Under Academy it says "...build by GS" should be "...built by GS".

Great job!

I find your guide very useful because all of the info is in one place. I am often frustrated by wanting to know something and not being able to find it easily, either in the manuals or the Civilopedia. Your guides are great for that.

Back in post #71 hecubus offered to insert bookmarks and links for you. I would encourage you to take him up on that. It will make it a lot easier to find info when you need it quickly. I also await your black and white guide as I do not have a color printer, only an old laser.

Just a reminder to players that if you open the guide on your desktop before you start the game you will be able to access it by hitting Alt-Tab while in the game. Alt-Tab always brings you back to the desktop IF you already have another program open.

How did you gather all of that information in such a polished presentation and in such a short time? I hope you didn't have to type it all in manually. Great job. As someone who edited the Civilopedia in Civ3 for the GOTM I want everyone to know that dj_anion had to have put in an enormous amount of time to create a manual that will serve us all well far into the future.

Anion, you should be rewarded with much gold and lots of culture, and awarded a Great Artist badge.
But I wish you'd do a version on plain paper. My printer will not print edge-to-edge, so I shall always have white margins which will rather spoil the appearance. Note, by the way, my use of the future tense: at the moment my printer is malfunctioning and will not print more than half a page of your masterwork without grinding to a halt. Most frustrating.
As a sideline, why in America do they use "aluminum" but not "uranum" and presumably not "thorum", "thallum", "thulum" and so on ?

dj_anion,

Fantastic job. Simply amazing. Now, please post when you have completed this work of art.

Then, I can sneak into my boss' office on a weekend and print this out on his Color Laser printer. :mischief:

This deserves that kind of professionalism.

Great Job :) I love it

One thing if you intend to do some rework: "A picture is worth a thousand words" - so instead of writing "+1H" I love to see the hammer icons, and instead
of the resource names like "clam" when describing fishing boats, it may be faster
to access if you just see the small icon.

But again - I love it :)

... and symbols are international, so even non-english speakers are able to get the fact!

i agree: i'd prefer symbols too. but hey, that's just me, and i realise that others might prefer something else!
your booklet has helped me heaps in my game. the next ass i whoop is dedicated to you. thanks man.

Great work!

Some comments on the leaders:

The max +/- modifiers for different/same religion seem off. For instance, Isabella max -1? If only! ;)

Spelling mistake: Deffensive should be Defensive

Nice guide!

However, I believe much of it would be easier to understand some of the iformation if you would use the symbols for hammers, gold etc. (:hammers: :commerce: :food:) rather than writing H, G, and so on. The symbols are easier to interprent than the letters...

Edit: Ooops... Somebody already said this. Sorry.

great work :goodjob:

In short, 10/30/50/100 means that this leader is 100% going to have peace with you when he/she is Friendly, 50% - when Pleased, 30% - Cautious, 10% - Annoyed. Of course, difficulty level modifies these numbers, too.

Thanks for that clarification. A suggestion for further clarification: how often are those % evaluated? I don't imagine every turn ... otherwise 50% for pleased would still mean DoW very quickly (if every turn there is a 50% chance of declaring war).

Sorry that is wrong :p
these values mean that:
every round the game checks for every AI vs every player if it does a doWar decision. If it does the values above give the chance that this doWar decision is ignored because of the attitude the AI has vs. the other player.
This means that an AI at friendly will NEVER carry out a doWar decision (mind: doWar means starting a war plan NOT declaring war - that may be some dozen or more turns off, so a war declaration may occur at friendly, the decision to do so was made before though).
The decision for doWar is a dice roll depending on the AI's strength, the opponent's strength, any other team members or Defensive pacts, if the opponent shares borders or is on another continent, if the opponent is already at war with someone else etc.
Edit: oh and the values you cite are not subject to change by dificulty, other factors are...

Thanks for the clarification ori but it is still murky for me, it really still leaves me with the same basic question, though now rephrased in terms of your text I highlighted above: How often does each AI "do a doWar decision?" it sounds like this 100/50/20/10 or whatever is a modifier to the result of that decision (kind of like a withdrawal chance, how likely is it a result meaning death will be instead ignored), but I'm still in the dark about what the original odds -- (analogous to the attack success odds) are, or how often this "doWar decision is done (and what triggers it).

If there is another thread that would be more appropriate to discuss this in, pointer appreciated!
