Petition to add Poland

The great example of falsifying the history and "popular perception" was the Battle of Balaclava.

Where English Light Brigade was extremely brave, Turks were cowards who left positions, and "Thin Red Line" of Scots who stopped the Russians saving the battle.

Recently discovered truth is that :

• Light Brigade just made the mistake attacking wrong russian battery (the had to time to listen attentively the messanger who brough the orders). This charge had neither tactical nor strategical influence. What's more they were able to retreat, with very few casualties.

• Turks who apreared as true heroes (especially garisson of Fort 1) managed to stop Russians for 3 hours after a heavy fire of artillery with all their fortifications as sand trenchs. Even when finally retreating (after receiving no support), they were very well comanded and able to keep the order, joining finally Scotts red line.

• Lord Raglan (Brtitish commander) appeared as a lier, who came into the battle not after one hour but after few more and trying to explain himself blamed the Turks about something what never happend.

For 150 years, "popular perception" was false. Turks were symbol of cowardice and British - symbol of courage.

I'm sorry to say so, but the only people from Poland I ever heard about, were: Pope John Paul, and some guy I used to go to school with (althoug he was half Polish), but I still think the should be added because of theire rich history, but every country has a rich history, even Luxembourgh, but I don't start a pettition about Luxembourgh because I would know in advance that it won't be that succesfull, I wish you good luck, and if this would be a nice christmas (wich means me losing my virginity) I to will vote for ;)

I haven't read the entire thread ( not at all actually) But everything is about balance and right now Europe is overrepresented in the game, if Poland goes in, someone has to go out.

Why?

Best of luck Pay-t.

I think that Macedonians should be next Civilization to add, couse We are oldest and most cultured Civ. in Europe. Thank u and **** u !

Dejan:

1) Macedonia should be a civ if it would represent Alexander's conquests, which Greece already represents.
2) Egypt, China, India or Sumers are the oldest civs, not Macedonians.
3) Present Macedonia is very different from ancient Macedonia
4) This thread is about Poland.

@Hitti-Litti: (note I am not supporting adding Macedonia nor Poland) I'm just pointing out that I think you misread point two. He said oldest in Europe, while neither Egypt, China, India or Sumeria are in Europe. :)

But anyway I think that Mycenians are the oldest civ in Europe.

What doesnt change that contemporary Macedonians have with ancient Macedonians as much as Poles with Sarmatians, English with Britons and French with Gauls (read none with exception of inhabited territory).

And I wouldnt bet which one is older.

I think Poland would be a good addition on an Expansion pack. The more Civs that are playable, the better.

I'm a pretty patriotic American, but I don't really like the fact that America is in the game. Its nation with just over 200 years of history among a group of Civs that were/have been around for 1000's of years. Granted its been a hell of a two hundred year run, but it pales in comparison to the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Persians, and so on, who laid the foundation for Civilization as we know it over thousands of years, and whos influences still effect our daily lives. On the other hand, in just 200 years, America has acheived many many things, that if the entire nation sunk into the ocean tomorrow, would effect the rest of the worlds daily lives for thousands of years as well.

The Golden Ages of Rome and Greece were matters of centuries, not millenium. America in the late twentieth century was a cultural, military, economic juggernaut unequalled in history, Rome on a global scale. America's also reoriented the world's political and economic traditions towards democracy and capitalism. However badly we've often failed to live up to them, the proclamations of freedom and equality in America's key documents have been lighthouses for freedom seekers all over the world.

If the point of the game is "2000 year old countries", then you've got Ethiopia, China and Japan. Cool countries, but not much of a game.

Yeah, but the influence of Roman and Greek culture can be seen in present world.

America is not a civilization, but it's a country that has had a massive influence to present world.

Please define "a civilization".

Please define "a civilization".

I don't know the literal meaning of "civilization", but IMHO a civilization has:

-has been independent for a long time
-is some kind "unique", it has it's own language, culture and/or unique history
-has had a major impact on either present world or historical world.

America fills only the last one, but for example England fulfills all of them. It has been independent for a long time, it has it's own language(though similar to other Europeans), culture and history, and has had a major impact on present world.

austria or Byzantium didn't have their "own" language as well.

And have I said that Byzantium or Austria are civilizations?

I said that it would be nice that Austria would be in game, I didn't say that it is a civilization.

Civilization is mainly defined by permanent settlement and division of labour. However, for cIV purposes we're talking about nations or cultural identities. Even then, further refinement is needed as going by nation or cultural identity would still make almost anything with a name eligible.

On Austria, I would rather see Holy Roman Empire than Austria (or even Austria-Hungary). It covers a longer and (IMHO) more interesting timespan than Austria / Austria-Hungary after that, and geographically conveniently covers several countries that would not need to be included then :)
