PH S21E02: There is a Title

alright, cool. didn't see it in a pic, but was too lazy to load up the save :goodjob: epic seems to be having issues to will be playing when i can

I'm really looking forward to the steam release - epic has been a steaming pile of stew.

Thankfully you don't need to open epic to launch Old World. You can run the OW exe directly from wherever it's stored on your drive. If you can't find it, I can share a reference later to where it's on my machine. Running the OW exe directly prevents you from playing MP, but we're essentially treating this as a SP game from OW's perspective.

I got it open, but thanks. was just an epic update, but the launcher is awful. booted up the game and away we go.

Turn 19
I did indeed find the hanging gardens; they're just hidden under the city plate for waset in other pictures.

And, in case you were wondering, but kept forgetting to ask like me:
B7m1p9I.png

going above 100 gets you to pleased, and bonus modifiers

Waset hit the next culture level, and another worker joined us. I tried to have him help out the gardens, but was unable. did i miss something, or are we not able to double up with wonders?

We also got a new heir (4th in line). I notice he's listed as our "relative" so i check out the details:
fzSop00.png

Ugh, he's Thutmose's son. That whole line needs to go.

I finished our battle up north, and sat on the site waiting for reinforcements. I ddint' want to leave it unclaimed for now. On the next turn, I promoted him to Beseiger for 20 shields next turn. On this turn, though, I promoted our slinger for 83 to Guard 1. Figured we could use the all-around boost for now.

I also see the the subcontinent of Liquor, and the Phiom just nearby w hte last of our orders.

t20
We exterted our influence on Inet, but then got nigh-constant vomiting and diarrhea. Coincidence?

Drama in, and our draw is nice:
bnuOwYP.png

I was very tempted by metaphyscis simply for the high synod build and event (i'm intrigued), but opted for military drill to help with more units more fast-like.

t21
Got a promotion event for Hatty.
AV1rDlt.png

Opted for courage to get rid of the penalty.

Then, poor Nebby came, hat in hand, aksing for aid:
JvpE1at.png

We didn't have the food, sadly.

But we did have the coins! So i "alt" buy-ed the top option, and helped our good friend out, as i know jr would want. he now owes us a favor.

We also got the option to explore w Hatty. After the terrible event projectile sickness event, I opted to start crossign thigns off my bucket list and went out on walkabout.

Waret finished the stone cutter, I opted for another settler. Feeling the spirit of coins and jguy, I also began work on another great wonder of the world:
iBgwfFl.png

t22
Opens w another nice event:
bIwHPx2.png

And a somewhat better one:
r9YmcB3.png

I chose the resources, as I just can't turn down wood

And we have options in our infirmity
FSQgXyY.png

Judging from the insanity on our husband's side of the family, a little union w narmer would be ok.

t23
And of course:
Nmut26N.png

F in the chat, boys.
cqc1Q6X.png

RsZurHd.png

We also got a similar event with the sythians, and i opted for a truce w them as well.

A non-dead leader event happened, and I brought a Philosopher to court. We can use them to tutor our step-nephew if we wish in a few years.
Spoiler b/c i forgot to resize :

q1cGWdC.png

Not IMhotep nor Timon of Athens.

Here's a tutorial window for those following along at home :)
hHNULFA.png

And, a legacy:
RAjjPQs.png

I had to choose this as we need the units, i think, pretty desperately.

I also put our scout on sentry to our west, near carthage. When our resources are ready, he can walk around are reharvest.

t24
actually uneventful.

t25:
tech's done, and new draw:
HUFFkFB.png

I had a tough time choosing, but opted for the settler simply b/c another city is pretty powerful.

We also finished the Gardens, and then got a cascade of events.
This week in Jewish history:
okXkY4y.png

M66mcIE.png

Hat-waret: Jewish disciple (which went to meroe) > Festival to manage unhappiness there. perhaps we should think about walls and sticking a family unit here to help with discontent.

And that was that. I figured this would be a good place as we're about to get our new cities up and going. I think one city for Military, one for Sages maybe? not sure which one @ which site. One more city and 2 more units and we've got both legacies ambitions done, so that's good. I wonder if we went settler before any of the specialists, if we could've finished the ambition before she kicked the bucket, but hindsight's 20/20.

I also noticed that we had a couple units and cities w queues. Let's please try to avoid any queueing, since we're handing the game back and forth, it's easy to overlook those things.

finally, i agonized on the tech draw as i felt very compelled by Camps so we could start harvesting lumber. in the end, though, i thought that if we ran low on wood, we could chop all that forest near us, and, again, a free city is very strong, imo.

look, you can celebrate the holidays with your loving family or you can keep your commitments to your internet friends and acquaintances on other continents? which is it going to be?

in other words, happy and merry christmas to you all if you celebrate :)

Yeah sorry everyone, haven't had a chance to continue yet. Hope you all had a very merry Xmas.
no problem, bud. have a merry...happy?...adequate? boxing day (if there's any left of it)

The Pharaoh is dead, long live the Pharaoh. Just what kind of ruler is young Neferure going to be and, more importantly, can we make sure that Thutmose the insane (who is next in line) does not ascend but stays torturing small animals with the druids. Let's find out.

There are less splitters than before, although we're not sure what the Cathaginian's People's Front are up to. Or the bloody Romans!

TJX6R5Q.png

Someone mentioned chariots. At least I think they did . I'm at least going to pretend they did and that's the new research

OdT7YKN.png

Seriously, the dude is called King Dowager Ahmose the Foolish, as if I'm going to let him rob my Legitimacy. Offer refused.

JANyXUh.png

It's all very sad and all but (in all seriousness) who even was this guy????

XW063ZO.png

In your face insane step-brother. Now, how do we organise a flaying "accident" with his druid friends!

Legitimacy baby

.........and now we're in the realms of I don't really know what the hell I'm doing here. Not sure we could expand to 7 cities (we're at 5), we already have 1 city improvement, surely we can build some more. Or was this just another :smoke:

LhyFg7g.png

At first glance I did think this said "tortured" by courtiers

LhyFg7g.png

There was no option for "You're both a bunch of pillocks" unfortunately

Bloody Romans, what have they ever done for us.....

And that, as we say, is that. 5 years of .... something I guess. Good luck fixing it all up

hey, welcome back! happy happy merry merry

nice turns! i think the urban improvement one is doable. We could throw 2 or 3 barracks in our military cities (each city can have 2), and a few temples. easy peasy livin' greasy.

i don't remember anyone mentioning chariots, but the chancellor's good to have the option to send out, so no weed there, i don't think.

Narmer was probably the head of the Hunter family in, I think, Hut-waret.

all in all, we still haven't lost :)

I'd have to boot up the save, but I wonder if Rome is worth allying with, in the near term, as a counterpart to Carthage, who is rigth next door? also, if we have a son with our next husband, succession crisis??

We are now known as The Keystone, a subtle nod to our leader's crippling alcoholism. Really should have played it more cool at that Babylonian Christmas Party.
upload_2021-12-28_20-53-48.png

Other than that, the turn starts off to a lot of good news. With Babylonians following our religion, they are slowly falling into the trap of being our BFFs. I convert our esteemed leader to Judaism to hop on the hype train.
upload_2021-12-28_20-55-46.png

First things first, we need a boy toy...errr, I mean husband. All of our families like us (opinion > 100), yay! So I shoot a marriage proposal off to Babylon instead. One step closer to entrapping them in friendship.

Research is complete, leading to a difficult choice! I'm going to pick Divination, so we have access to more urban improvements. Forestry would be nice to get soon though, so we can start some mass deforestation. What did those stupid trees ever do for us?
upload_2021-12-28_20-59-19.png

We can now assign a Chancellor! Not a lot of good choices here unfortunately. I definitely don't want to pick someone who's going to slow down our growth. In the end, Mr. Djoser gets the nod. I assign him to bribe the Amarna family so we can get their opinion above 200.
upload_2021-12-28_21-1-16.png

A barracks in Merlot...Meroe....will net us an urban improvement, and grab us those beautiful gems.
upload_2021-12-28_21-3-46.png

Huh? What? We have seized destiny! The Pyramids are ours! All shall tremble before our humorous depictions of Abbott & Costello fighting mummies. Or are these things for storing grain? I can never keep it straight.
upload_2021-12-28_21-6-54.png

After such a high note, horrors. Our worst nightmare has come true. The wonderfully amazing, amazingly strong, strongly handsome Nebbie has stopped gracing this planet with his existence. Is there any use to even continuing playing at this point? We'll have to give Queen Kashyyyk (the Wookie queen???) a shot. Maybe she'll make a good drinking buddy.

The latest catalog of suitors has arrived. Easy choice, we definitely don't want someone who's compassionate. Besides, Anel-Marmaduke has 4 Wisdom, which is pretty awesome.
upload_2021-12-28_21-14-55.png

Wait, what? Scouts can go into the territory of other nations even if they're just "truce"? I thought that was restricted to "peace". Is this new, or have I been missing out on a whole bunch of spying, I mean scouting, opportunities in all my other games?

upload_2021-12-28_21-19-9.png

With Divination complete, it's time to score ourselves a free chariot. Rumor has it they're able to win races to the red sea against religious zealots 100% of the time. Not sure when that will come in handy though.
upload_2021-12-28_21-22-43.png

One more goal down! Plenty more to go, but a step in the right direction.
upload_2021-12-28_21-27-12.png

I failed to get a screenshot, but there's a Vandal raid incoming near Waset! Bloody barbarians, time to put our military to good use. They shall soon know the might of our free chariot!

The tech choice is a hard one. Forestry for lumbermills for more wood is always a great choice. But Metaphysics gives us archive, the ability to bribe the pope, and the ability to convert characters to our state religion. I'm going to let the next person make the difficult decision.
upload_2021-12-28_21-30-38.png

That takes us to the bottom of Turn 35.

A few highlights:
- our people love us! families all above 100, state religion nearly there as well
- foreigners hate us! all the other nations have pretty low opinions of us
upload_2021-12-28_21-36-41.png

Next steps:
1) Research choice is a tough one. I think I'm leaning slightly toward Metaphysics, if only because it's the one recommended by the game.
2) Tribal raid incoming near Waset. Keep your military eyes open.
3) I think it's time to start considering the next wonder. We need to gather some more resources first, but I think we'll be close to one by end of the next set.
4) War with Danes might be a good option. They own a lot of good real estate. They're not at war with anyone else, so we wouldn't have to worry about sharing the spoils. And we have a pretty large military raring to go. A lot easier task than war with another nation, at the very least.

I, Neferure the Keystone, am Pious, Proud, and will not suffer anyone not believing in our Holy Religion.

upload_2021-12-29_20-52-25.png

We will therefore pursue the research of Metaphysics to convert everyone to the One True Belief.

I may not be a zealot, but I will try to send missionnaries to our neighbors nonetheless.

For now, we have more pressing matters. I see those Vandals have reproduced enough to send some of their dirty offspring to tickle our toes.

upload_2021-12-29_20-57-29.png

Let us teach a lesson and conquer that site! It will be a good place to build boats to control those seas. We may need boats to continue conquering their pagan lands.

But let us not fool ourselves. Our south and eastern sides have been secured by those cute Babs. Let's not talk west, we just decided to send missionnaries, not swords. Well, north shall be ours then.

The key objective to prevent the Pagarthginans to take too much of our coveted lands is this site:

upload_2021-12-29_21-46-31.png

With any luck, we might find a way even further north.

Let's sacrifice a bit of legitimacy to get more orders and get those objectives up and running.
