Obligatory gripes at the inherited turns:
I hate redfaces, and I hate seemingly suboptimal build choices. Redface could be avoided with smarter MM'ing (or if really no choice, turn on avoid growth). Lighthouse while stagnating at happy cap is rather pointless to me.
I corrected them, switching Edirne to temple build, and Istanbul to axe build.
Some turns later, I decided that we are not going to get our stones back through culture (our percentage ownership on that tile actually declined from the last time I checked from the previous save) -- hence we joined the Jewish block officially.
That gives us enough happiness that I think we should grow -- plus we got monarchy towards the end of my set, and the wines add yet more happiness. So most scientists are fired to favour growth. Of course, the Gods would spite me by actually reducing our pop with this annoying event:
I hate those slaves.
We could even adopt HR to get more happy. Eventually we should, but maybe not right now. We have enough happiness for the short term, so there is no pressure to go HR in a hurry. Maybe until we get CS to switch together with Bureaucracy?
On the war front:
Williem sent a sword/axe/archer combo in:
Since we occupied the jungles and hills, he has to bring them to the open, which got slaughtered by our axes -- but my luck were down today, we lost two axes in the process. Nonetheless, it produced us a GG which is still idling at the end of my turnset. We probably should settle him in Istanbul or Konya - -don't worry, I don't think I have build new units after getting the GG, so no wastage occurs.
Meanwhile HC got his goldenage,
While Mr Williem suicide his axe against our axe at the northeast horse where a worker is building a pasture. This probably cost him one unit too much, and peace returns to our crammed world:
With us getting Masonry for free (actually I switch his initial offering of archery to masonry), we can start to get construction. Here is the tech situation:
Nothing worthy of trade, so we should probably get construction on our own, and head for Civil Service. But I am still hoping (against all odds, I must add) that Darius will change his mind and be willing to trade Construction, That's why we should probably hold on to 0% science until we have enough gold to research all of construction at 100%.
We need CS next due to our general lack of food. We need to farm up a few places. So, cottage-loving people (yes pholk, I am looking at you!) please don't go too cottage happy -- leave some tiles for the irrigation spread.
Here is the overview of our empire. If we are in settling mode, we can settle the site N of the NE horse, or hope on a (as-yet-unbuilt) galley and settle the island west of Istanbul.
As I said, most of our cities are in growing mode ... the worker at the corn is not a mistake since the border will pop at next turn.
Good luck.
