PH16: Guns Make a Man

Given the strong objections ;), I think it would be best to research HBR and machinery ourselves, that will give time for the GS to emerge and bulb Education. We can build cats in the mean time while researching HBR, and build phants while researching machinery. Who knows, the price of machinery might drop after we got HBR.

we must reach Gunpowder w/o unreasonable delay. The first world war must be declared the turn Gunpowder is done

Oh ... I (mis)interpreted the "w/o unreasonable delay" as associated with the DoW part ... now I notice the "comma". Is barb an "empire" :mischief: ?

Then we have to build a few longbows in the eastern cities for defense against Asoka and Darius prior to gunpowder, while our initial maces/phants/cats combo go take out the puny netherlands -- I ofcourse had assumed the three unfortunate neighbours of ours will be the first 3 to get a surprise call once we attain manhood.

OK, I guess I misunderstood as well. Screw any more infra builds. Get the whip started and let the troops come.

I think we should forgo any more trading and self research, including Education, to GP, not giving any of our adversaries a military advantage. We probably need Drama as well to run culture slider for happiness.

Given this two, I think it would be better to self tech HBR and machinery in my set and then jump to Edu->Gunpowder ( with the help of the incoming GS ) while building troops... what do you think?

Other thing we should consider is to lib Natio.... for drafting OFC ;) Our UU is draftable and it is very versatile vs anything older than muskets.... and given our variant, we could gain a lot by having the draft on

Boring set....

No techs to trade ( some AI brokered CS soon in the set :( ), no fancy stuff ( besides MoM going down and some Dutch chef discovering new spices ). Some pics to cut the boredom:

And the tech screen of the last turn of the set:

Like I said, some AI, most likely Hammy, brokered CS soon in the set and we lost the oportunity of trading for it ourselfes. I point for Asoka already haveing Engineering ( Castles in cities :( ) and DG having Feudalism. There is still no one avaliable for trading for HBR.

Just a final note: the cap is doing HG. I simply queued it because it is a wonder too good to pass on if open in such lase time :p Feel free to take it out of the queue.

:agree:

i as well ~

and, as far as CS is concerned ~ lesson learned. I will now try to do the same and get something worthwhile from CS in the future. see ~ ain't SGs grand :D

good turns, rolo, despite the setback. I'm a big fan of the HG so i say let's do it, then go all out with production at the capital. if i have a chance i'll check it out, but maybe we can get one more scientist and the wonder done close together to go all out production then, and fire our scientists.

also, our other cities should focus on an initial attack force (before jannissaries can get there), i think, to take on/out the Netherlands and their man from ORANGE (Oprah's Randy Apparatus Nicely Granting Ecstasy ~ ewww). agrree on the protection in the east as well :yup:

Got it and looked at the save. Here are my plans for a short set since I am worried about my turns, even though it is only prince.

1.) Continue with military buildup.

2.) Can MM Istanbul for GS/HG to be completed in 7 turns.

3.) WvO has Elephants already constructed so do we want to counter with 2:1 ratio of spears?

4.) I take it we are going to have to demolish some cottages to spread irrigation or are we going to go out of the way?

5.) Turn on 100% Research so GS in 7 turns can hopefully bulb the remainder of Education (16).

Didn't hear any comments so I played per plan.

Turn 216
MM'd Istanbul to complete HG in 7 turns, when we get GS. Turned slider to 100%. Fired scientist in Bursa.

Turn 217
Continued to spread irrigation.

Turn 218
HC wants us to cancel our deals with Hammy. I voted no.

We get an eruption event. Lose two wineries and mine.

DG wants this trade, which I declined.

Turn 219 Z

Turn 220
A little :whipped:.

Turn 221 Z

Turn 222
Four barbarians archers appear near Bursa. I move some troops around to kill them ASAP so they don't pillage everything.

Turn 223

Fire scientists in Istanbul. I have them working grassland forests since I wanted it to grow while helping with some hammers.

nice set, WDragon ~ though, sucks on the event (of course, not that i can blame you).

elephants can counter elephants, correct? Bonus vs. Mounted?? Will be a tough slog ~ maybe we can pillage his ivory w/spies?? I'm almost wary of declaring w/o trebs ~ but, after all, it's . . .

[all together now]

ONLY PRINCE!

pholkhero >> planning lessons, on deck
ozbenno >> having his kids make paper snowflakes b/c it sure ain't snowing there ( ;) )
rolo >> hires and fires scientists, willy-nilly, with no regard for their feelings, how long they've been there, whether they have tenure, what they teach, whether their carrying on a long-term relationship with the department secretary who said she has "big news" tonight and now he's totally freaking out . . .
White Dragon >> Master Gardener and Professor, just played
GreyFox >> sharpening your whip, UP NOW

Got it. I think the "w/o unreasonable delay" clause would dictate that we tech gunpowder as soon as it is available, so that's what I will do.

Priority, apart from the military build up, will be to get rid of the jungles around Bursa so that Greek attackers won't have any natural covers.

to clarify (not that it matters all that much) ~ "w/o U.D." meant that we couldn't hang onto to Guns with 1 turn to go for like 3 sets of turns so that we were "fully prepared".

we don't have to go directly for it, but neither can we avoid it forever. idk...as i said, it doesn't matter all that much. let's just start the smashy-smashy ~

Inherited turns, switched all cities that don't have a barracks to build barracks. It's gonna to be war, my friends. Barracks are necessities.

I also found two worker farming over a cottage, which I don't understand the reason ... especially since there are other jobs to do like chainfarming Bursa or re-building the magma-destroyed wineries.

PH16-AD0745-workers.jpg

Attempting to learn some lesson from rolo, made a few trades mid-turns, basically got us the ability to build longbows and phants for defense.

PH16-AD0775-trades.jpg

I remember getting Aesthetics + some gold from DeGaulle for Paper, but somehow no screenshots is saved.

In any case, here is the situation:

PH16-AD0880-sit.jpg

I spent some gold upgrade a couple of axes to maces. Our current research rate at breakeven will get us gunpowder in 10 turns. Going binary should cut it to 9, but I suggest we drag it over 15~20 turns, to get more cats/longbows/phants out, and some money to upgrade more axes to maces.

I usually wish the next player good luck before passing the save over, ... but its not necessary here, since ...

... it's just prince.
