Phi - Always War Archipelago

There is discussion going on in some threads whether it's allowed to reload turns in PBEM-games. A lot of people, including me, do this. It's a way of making use of the possibilities each round by changing orders in which I move my units until "the perfect order" is made. I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who plays this way.

Some examples why I believe this:
- I've been playing games in which I had a large stack of units that were wiped the next turn and my opponent had no significant losses
- I've (almost) never seen an opponent lose units without a strategy behind it (like offering one unit so another will survive)

Last but not least; when I was the only one who played this way I would have won most of the games. Fact is, I lost most of them...

It seems that what I consider normal play style seems to be cheating to other people. For me that's the limit; I play for fun and don't want to be accused of such nonsense !

If anyone in this game also considers this cheating please post this here so I can vacant my position to another person.

In Heihojin's games he says reloading cannot be stopped, but 'if it feels like cheating, don't do it'.

You talk about 'the perfect order', also about 'offering one unit so another will survive'.
These sound like they might be separate points.
On the last point, that seems to me to be normal tactics.

No-one, unless they have to, would attack a stack before weakening it first, preferably with bombers as they usually come back.
However if you are left with a too strong unit in a stack, I will attack it with a weaker unit to weaken it, and then with a strong unit to finish it off. I prefer to sacrifice weaker units and keep the promoted ones. Even real life armies sacrifice units because it improves the odds for those remaining.

So that's ok, it's just this point about the 'perfect order'. If that means reloading and replaying until you achieve unrealistic outcomes, that's not realistic.

What does everyone else think?
At this point it's not a problem unless some people think it is, and we can or can't agree to adopt or refuse this approach for the rest of the game.

I just had an interesting discussion with Calanthian. He shared his vision and I shared mine. Calanthian, as a relative newcomer to the PBEM scene, was convinced reloading wasn't allowed. Me, on the other hand, have been playing while using reloads as I see fit since the 1st day I've played PBEM-games. As far as i know, this has never had that been a problem for other players (and like I said, I know several other players do it too, without naming them, and I don't make a problem about it).

It's the same situation with the use of anabolic stereoids in the bodybuilding scene; no one admits he uses them, but to become the best, you simply have to use them. Another example is no guy watches porn on the internet but when you see their temporary internet files you'll see that.... erm... never mind.

I don't say everybody reloads but when I make an educated guess, I think 50-70 percent makes reloads when thing goes wrong. With that in mind, I simply can't agree with the rule that reloads are forbidden, because for me that's admitting that I "played the bad way". I'll step out the games where players has this opinion.

Ofcourse I want to do this in a nice way so I propose that I open the last turn, change the leader name to a generic one, remove the password and sent it to the game-hoster. Another option is that I change my CIV to AI.

I'll make this posting in every thread I'm playing in, to get your games moving fast again, please let the person that plays as the host of this game make a decision about the rules and if reloading isn't allowed drop me a PB so I can mail the turn with password removed to them. If on the other hand, the opinion is that reloading isn't a problem I'll be happy to stay and bash in your skulls :p

Just got back on the internet and saw all these post. Personally, I don't reload until a desired outcome is met. That is just not fun for me. But like Ozy said, there is no way to stop it. I play PBEMs with the knowledge that it can't be stopped, therefore, I accept it. I don't want you to retire your civ or pass it off to another person. I play these games for fun. And if I lose while doing it, that is ok with me.

Hi guys, game looks interesting. Thought I gps last night, but may not have attached the file. I sent it this AM. I am sorry to see such a great fanatic as Deztro go. I wish him well and will welcome him back if he does ever return.
