[NFP] Pirates scenario first look

The chainshot Active ability seems like you can use every turn by every ship and the others either need badly damaged ships or are temporary. I'm trying not to be pessimistic but in MP it will just be chaining people in place to then surround and sink them. Carl chained a ship that a melee class with no ranged shot made it essentially helpless.

Hello Civ Fans

Not sure if the difficulty setting can help here the AI, but clearly leaving everything on "Prince" doesn't work - two AI factions were eliminated in the first third of the game and the Hoarders as last one in T54:

How do I start a SP Pirates game? It isn't in the single player's scenarios list ... On multiplayer it freezes with "Retrieving Host Information".

I would imagine them just went after a Treasure Fleet and being obliterated by the escorts.

Adding to this that I have the exact same problem.

Edit: I was able to create my own game however.

I think the game needs to be set up through the multiplayer menu, even if you're not actually playing it as multiplayer. Just set up a local network game and set all but one of the factions as computer controlled.

They aren't kidding, though, when they say playing against the AI will be less challenging. In my first game, 2 of the 3 AIs were eliminated in the first 15 turns, and I don't think the 3rd ever broke 50 points. If you play do play the scenario as single player, I think you need to accept that you're playing for high score rather than against the AI.

Try making a MP game for only you. Basically a SP game, but it is a MP scenario too, so perhaps it works better?

Just some observations after one game.

@Amrunril is completely right about the competition. Two pirates went down fast, and the third hung around not too much longer. From there it was just running up the score by myself and not dying.

60 turns is really short and doesn't reveal much of the map.

The first promotion tree is the best, especially the move after attacking and double attack bonuses.

The easiest way to generate score is straight up naval combat. Use bonuses for increasing your naval combat. Burying treasure is a means for converting gold to score, but seems kind of pointless. I didn't even visit a tavern (don't know how).

I played Swashbuckler but neither bonus is that great. +1 points for exploration is miniscule in the long run, and I only used my fast movement once. I never felt in danger enough to use it as getaway. Plus there was not much of a need to explore because the sea was covered in ships and I had plenty to do right there.

Pillaging trade ships is good after you use up both attacks, move away for safety, and need to kill your turn.

Played both immortal and diety, same results unfortunately... first game all 3 rivals defeated before turn 30. second game 2 of them defeated before turn 40, and the last one didn't score well

Yes. Really, I think this needs to be played in real multiplayer. As single player, it's not 'unfun' but there's really no challenge at all. Sad... And yes, Only way I found to start this was in multiplayer play then choosing pirates mode, not using the pirate scenario.

"Retrieving Host Information..."

I suppose I am not walking the planks anytime soon
