    I'm not sure, but isn't there a restrition for the mac version that mods using a modified .dll will not run?


    This question comes up quite often, here is how I would describe the similarities and differences between PF and SMAC/X (no percentage though, I don't think it is really possible to give such number and I doubt it would explain a lot anyway):

    Not a stupid one, but one hard to answer in general. You can for example expect to meet the same factions/leaders, behaving similar. You will meet many well known buildings, units and techs - but often they work slightly different. You will find features like native life and PSI-combat and many more things.

    Then there are new features - the ones Civ4 added to the series, like unit promotions, great people, religions, corporations, combat mechanics...of course modified to fit in the SMAC theme. Not to forget a much better AI (which is still in progress to become better)!

    Sadly, some things from are SMAc are just impossible to convert in the scope of a mod; e.g. there is no unit workshop (a very detailed special ability and promotion catalogue makes up for this to a large extend, though), no real global warming with rising seas, less automation for units and no extensive terraforming options. Others have been ommitted for some reason or just haven't been added yet (but might return in future, if it shows that an implementation is possible)

    I would just try out :)

    Patch 13k for Planetfall, the Alpha Centauri total conversion mod for Civ4 BtS, has been released. This patch needs to be applied on top of the main v13 file of Planetfall. Patch k is incompatible with games started under previous patches.

    Optional: the SMAC sound files and the SMAC movie files in four parts: #1, #2, #3 and #4
    You need to place and extract (with WinRAR) the movie files in Beyond the Sword/Mods/Planetfall v1x/Assets/Art/Movies. THANKS to WarKirby for providing the sound files, and to sylandro for providing the movies.



    Changelog:

    13. All bases receive a Hydro Plant for free upon research of Ecological Engineering.
    14. The Ascetic Virtues shrine increases the base's credit production by 25%.
    15. Isles of the Deep now cost 60 minerals, Sealurks 70.
    16. The promotions pedia page has been split up into Morphoses (native life promotions), Promotions and Special Abilities.
    17. A seperate line of Lifecycle morphoses for the Isle of the Deep has been added. These morphoses provide +1 cargo capacity in addition to +10% strength.
    18. A faction with a positive Planet Attitude vassalized to a faction with a negative Planet Attitude can not vote in the Concordat Council.
    19. The "Spread the Voice of Planet" Concordat motion now requires Centauri Empathy.
    20. Defying a Concordat resolution temporarily reduces the Planet value (instead of the happiness) of all your bases. See any resulting fungal blooms as eco-terrorism by pro-Concordat radicals.
    21. The Affinity Gene Treatments resolution is 50% more effective.
    22. The Flowering Counter increases a little for every Transcend Great Person born.
    23. The Transcendence civic boosts domestic trade yield by 150%.
    24. The Clinical Immortality secret project has been added. Its base has no unhealthiness and gains extra food from doctors.
    25. Morgan can now build one of a choice of five different corporations in each base.
    26. The seven "secret project" corporations have been removed or turned into a regular corporation as mentioned in the previous point.
    27. Morgan can no longer hurry units. That ability has moved to the Data Angels. Morgan can hurry the five corporations even without Nanites.
    28. The Consciousness can build two factional projects - the Cybercore and Cybernexus - which boost the base's yield, commerce and Great People points by +50%.
    29. Negative Planet from population decreased by 25% in Angel bases.
    30. Makeshift hideouts: when an Angel base less than population size 6 is captured, all base facilities are dismantled and salvaged in return for a sum of credits to the Angel energy reserves.
    31. Nautilus Pirate Naval Yards provide +1 happiness and health while under the Non-Member civic.
    32. Svensgaard's favourite civic now is Non-Member instead of Autarky.
    33. A Dawn of Planet secret project has been added at Psionics. When built in a base, the Cult of Planet is founded, takes over the base and signs a permanent alliance with the builder.
    34. If the human player builds Dawn of Planet, he can choose to abandon his faction and take control of the Cult of Planet.
    35. The Cult of Planet automatically declares a permanent war on the player with the lowest negative Planet Attitude.
    36. Gaian Biology Labs provide one Empath specialist slot.
    37. The Gaians get +1 Happy from Forest and Hybrid Forest.
    38. The Gaian Planet bonus has been reduced to +1 Planet.
    39. Deirdre's favourite civic now is Autarky instead of Hybrid.
    40. The "No Base Razing" game option has been reversed to "Base Razing Allowed". So the default option "Off" recommended by me, means base razing is not allowed in Planetfall.
    41. When a Concordat member conquers a base of a non-Concordat member which is causing eco-damage, the population of the base will decrease to an extent so that no more eco-damage is caused, and refugee "Air Evac" units will be created in a nearby base of the former owner of the conquered base. Air Evac units can settle down as a Technician specialist.
    42. If the Cult causes Air Evacs by conquering enemy bases, the Flowering Counter will increase a little.

    Wow. I mean wow. I just got the whole Civ 4 on sale this year. Didn't see any reason to get it sooner since Civ III still had me busy. But I LOVE SMAX. Only the AI really disappointed me, otherwise I'd have never even started playing Civ.

    I can't wait to get this up and running. :D

    I'm playing a game (as Gaians) at turn 360 or so and I am soon at the end of the tech tree, but the flowering counter is only at 50 (after several concordat affinity gene votes).

    What affects how aggressivly the funghus spreads (and planetmind reaches awarness).

    I no longer argue with Maniac over the diabolical strength of the flora in Planetfall, worse than the worst barbarians on earth in Civ IV, but I do still feel at liberty to suggest once again that, as in the precedent set by SMAC, if we kill the fungal towers etc., which is often at great cost to our defensive units, we should get "planet-pearl rewards". Surely I can get some support for this motion?

    Heh, only thing I would request is a promotion for fungus defense. All the other terrains have a defensive promotion, why not the fungus and hybrid forest? The native life forms get fungal attack bonuses through promotions.

    When I went to download the file, it told me it was a binary file! What's with that? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Also, i HATE it when people compress things into .rar files! When I download a mod, I don't want to download some other software. I just want to unzip the file, relocate, and play. People, use Winzip or the Mac equivalent. Anything but .rar files.

    Sorry for the rant.

    Settlervstank: I am informed if you go to the "7-zip" website you can download a program which will open RAR files. I haven't tried it myself yet but it may help. Let me know, please, if it works.

    I thoroughly agree, however, with your sentiment. I have long held that RAR files are in pain in the nether regions and no one who forces you to have to open them for the files you want is doing you any favours!

    I have no idea what you both are talking about.

    A binary file is on a windows PC normaly an .exe file.
    Has nothing to do with winrar, and .rar files are technically nearly the same as a .zip file, both winzip and winrar should support both file formats, and there should not be any problems with them.

    But now, back to topic here ;).

    Actually anything which is not a text file is a binary file, this includes .exe., .zip, .rar, .jpg, .doc and lots of other stuff.

    That being said, this mod and its patches are .exe files so you need no specific software to extract anything.

    The Flowering Counter still need to be finetuned. It's very unlikely to reach 100 FC at the moment.

    You should change your strategies so that you're not stuck defending against native life while on fungus.

    What file are you talking about?

    Me too, because of the 40-day evaluation period message. Anyway, if someone uploads the movies in simple zip, I'll be happy to provide links to them as an alternative. Because I have a very slow upload speed, that someone won't be me though.

    Heh. Sometimes its not a choice. I tend to attack other units that are on fungus tiles to kill them, but then, the attacking unit is stuck on said tile without any movement left and injured.. Happens pretty often and its hard to place another unit on it to help defend it so I can pull it back to heal.

    Not a major issue, just a minor wish list item :)

    Help Help Help Help Help.
    Installed this Patch and now the whole Mod is screwed up. Uninstalled and installed everything twice but get millions of error messages about sibling files etc. It seems my only hope is to completely remove everything even from the registry.Can anyone advise on this please?

    Have you checked if your problem is solved by something mentioned in the first question of the FAQ in the second post of this thread?

    I don't know what error messages about sibling files look like. It sounds like something that would show if some files are missing.

    I recently dl'd Planetfall early last week and I have a few comments:

    1) Nearly every game I have played so far has seen Zakharov doing infinitely better than any other faction due to his research bonuses. The only exception to this is my current game where he is about on par with all of the other factions, and I cannot seem to find out why this one game is different from the others.

    2) I love reading pedia entries as the really do make the mod. With no SMAC background at all, I'd love to see some entries for the other factions, especially for the Insurgents and The Prophets etc.

    All in all though, I absolutely love this mod and I look forward to future patches etc.

    Changelog:

    1. The BULL mod by EmperorFool has mostly been added.
    2. Some BUG Python screen modifications have been added.
    3. Better AI 1.01 by jdog5000 added.
    4. A few SMAC diplomatic blurbs have been added.
    5. The player can change his leader title under 'Your Details', so that he's not adressed as Sister or Lady during diplomacy.
    6. Great Generals heal units on the same plot 10% per turn.
    7. The Religious Victory has been removed.
    8. Clinical Immortality now provides +1 nutrient to Doctors everywhere.
    9. The Hunter Seeker Algorithm secret project has been added, allowing Bunkers to see Probe Teams (and allowing me to use an extra SMAC movie).
    10. The Unity Hydroponics Bay now provides fresh water on all the player's owned plots, and a free Hydro Plant in each base. The +50% terraforming speed bonus has been removed.
    11. When an Expansion era faction is founded, the human player is given the choice to abandon his old faction and continue playing as the new one.
    12. Conquered bases can now be pillaged over several turns, each pillage providing credits and decreasing base population by 1.
    13. When the Cult pillages a base, the Flowering Counter is increased a little and the pillager gains some XP equal to base's population size.
    14. The whole Air Evac thingie has been removed.

    Hm, when I press the "download" button, a window pops up, in it is a text stating

    "Click here to begin downloading Planetfall_v13l_Patch.exe from Filefront. Join our community to download files direct from our servers."

    The part in italic is a link, when I press it I get a file not found from Filefront.
