Planetfall

Well, since you ask.

The SMAC sound effects plus music always seemed well judged to me. I had read before about the difficulty of importing the sounds in Planetfall.

I prefer the terrain as painted in SMAC to that of Planetfall. Planetfall's terrain seems softer in comparison, less stark, and not therefore so dramatic but maybe that is a personal preference.

Civ IV diplo screens seems less bold and intrusive than those of SMAC. But bold and intrusive is how your rivals in the game shall be!

I fear I am on a hiding to nothing so nevertheless again, Maniac, I am very grateful for your Planetfall Mods.

Live long and prosper.

What problems are you having? You'll have to be more specific, 'cause everything seems clear and obvious to me.

Concerning the music, I always chose the Peacekeepers (as befitting my Pacific nature till aroused! :)) but there was always a nice background music/sound attached to that, which DIDN'T seem event driven. So what is the problem there?

Patch v8d has been released. This patch will break games started under the previous patch.

Please check out this poll asking what I should next on in Planetfall development: Better AI or add the SMAC ambience sound and diplomacy dialogue?

Not knowing how to record it. It's built up by the game from various short wavs, not some mp3 which can be simply dragged over.
However I now know how to record it. Check out the poll I linked to in the previous post.

DLed the patch.:goodjob: As for your poll options, IMO both are viable ways to go and I don't want be telling a fellow modder which way to go. (I'm assuming that in the end both routes will be followed up upon.);)

Okay I feel the same myself, Glad you were bold to say so Jeelen.

help. I run the install icon (to the mods folder of BTS, automatically) but when try to play, in the mods list don't appear the planetfall mod. Just looking for with the "search" tool by windows I find the icon to launch the game but say "mods\Planetfall v8\ is an invalid mod directory, ignoring". Please give me an help. Thanks

You probably don't have Civ4 installed to the folder the installer suggests by default. You need to find out yourself what your Civ4 folder is.

You can right-click on whatever you use to start up Civ4 (a start menu link, or a desktop icon...), click on Properties and there you will see under 'Target' or 'Start In' the folder Beyond the Sword is installed to. Add '\Mods' behind that, and you have your correct installation folder.

I loaded Planetfall into the C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Gold\Beyond the Sword\Mods directory of Civ IV Gold. It starts up okay, but when I get ready to start a game, as soon as it starts to initialize the graphics, it crashes and wants to send an error report. Is it not working because it wasn't supposed to work with Civ IV Gold?

Did you just rate this thread with one star?
I also don't like the angry face in your post's title.

Get out of my thread!

Get out of my thread!

I never rated the thread, and the angry face is to emphasize my dissatisfaction and frustration with the mod. All I wanted was a simple answer. If it's your objective to show off your skills as a game programmer, with the hope that someone will recognize your skills, then you failed since the mod doesn't work. If you're just a gamer playing around with mods, then you're just say so, and I'll uninstall the mod and find something worth my time.

That is not my objective. And the mod loads fine. The problem lies with you. You should be angry, dissatisfied and frustrated with yourself, not with Planetfall. I am of course willing to help, but please do not show an attitude as if you were entitled to anything.

Now, if I recall correctly, what you describe may occur because you haven't installed patch 3.17 for Beyond the Sword. Please make sure you have done so.

Civ4 Gold only contains vanilla Civ4 and the Warlords expansion, not Beyond the Sword. Is it perhaps Civ4 Complete you have??

Don't be too hard on the guy, Maniac.

We are all very grateful for you to for the Planetfall MOD. :)

I have just given up on SMAC. Just too buggy for later OS. :(

Live long and prosper, Maniac.

ok I've downloaded both the mod and the patch, installed them both everything seemed to install ok but when I go to find the mod it's not there. and i'm looking in beyond the sword game. anybody have any ideas?

I didn't even know you replied to me until after I got a notice in my free email account. I didn't say anything about installing the 3.17 patch in any of my posts. I did check, and it was 3.17. Just to give you the benefit of the doubt, I reloaded it, and the mod still doesn't work. I'm not hinging the whole world on getting a mod for SMAC to work, I'm onto more pressing things.

Version 10 of Planetfall has been released. This will break savegames from the previous version 8. You will also immediately need to download and apply Patch a.

From a pure design point of view, I am most happy in this version with the change to trade networks and open borders. You can read more about these here.

There are also plenty of new unit graphics:

Changelog:

1. New Plasma Thrower graphics added, a combination of mechaerik, The_Coyote, SeZereth and AlazkanAssassin assets and efforts.
2. Leaderhead personalities modified, by Pfeffersack.
3. Building buttons, by Teodosio.
4. Factions now have a seperate list for sea base names. Thanks to Priv_Joker.
5. The Spore Launcher got a new texture, thanks to Lord Tirian.
6. New Mass Driver graphics, by The_Coyote and Deliverator.
7. The Artillery unit has been renamed to Behemoth, and has been given new graphics by The_Coyote and Deliverator.
8. The Partisan unit now uses Apocalyptic Fury Road graphics by SeZereth.
9. Fungal Tower graphics by Lord Tirian.
10. The Carrier has been transformed into a combat submarine, still retaining its air unit cargo capacity. New graphics by The_Coyote and Deliverator.
11. The Cruiser ship is now enabled by Magnetic Acceleration.
12. The territory of factions you don't have open borders with isn't part of your trade network. Put in other words, if the only way to reach faction C is to move through a hostile faction B, you won't be able to trade with faction C. You can still trade resources with faction B, regardless of open border status.
13. Factions now have their SMAC ambience music.
14. Units can now switch graphics by picking certain promotions. Thanks to Kael.
15. Democratic politics civic now only provides +1 happiness to the largest cities.
16. Deep Radar promotion is now enabled by Information Networks.
17. Accuracy promotion is now enabled by Polymorphic Software.
18. AAA Tracking promotion is now enabled by Holographics;
19. Interstellar Gate victory now actually works.
20. The Interstellar Gate victory now requires six instead of five Subspace Generators.
21. Subspace Generators are produced 25% faster with control of the Manifold Nexus.
22. Psych Chaplain specialist no longer gives an Espionage point, but one extra Great People point instead.
23. Factions are more likely to land on the biggest landmass.
24. The Spartans and Hive will tend to land a little further away from the group than the others.
25. Modified native life spawning pattern.
26. The Solar Collector improvement can be built on Jungle, but no longer on other Rainy terrain.
