Players, how much experience do you have in the Civ-series?

How do you mean? Total hours played? Years since first Civ-game?

My first experience was Civ1 on the Super Nintendo, I think '92 or '93.
Since then I've played Civ2, Civ3, Civ4 and ofcourse Civ5
I've also played CTP1 and CTP2 and also Alpha Centauri.
Lately I've also played Civworld for a few days.

My poll didn't show up. :(

But anandus, thank you for your detailed experience! :)

Back in the days, I remember when I walked from the shop in a hurricane snowstorm and hid Civ1 under my clothes.

Then I played it and played everything after that, even until today. 900 hrs on a game I don't really like???

I most likely play tomorrow again, I can't go back to the old versions...

I been playing civilization games since i was about 14, I'm 26 now. Started out with civ 2 on the macs at school & played it to death. Really loved to play the OCC survival game on deity not to win but to survive. :) somehow managed a win on Civ 2 test of time on deity by tech(because the AI never did future tech heh)

bought Civ3 went it came out then its expansions, i loved conquering the world on Pangaea maps using everyone's railroads in like 5 turns then watching the replays, civ3 had the best replays I'm hoping civ5s one isn't half baked like civ4s.

Got Civ4 probably played that the most, bts was good. Didn't think much of corporations or espionage tbh.

Civ5, i played 600 hours according to steam. I love the good graphics & Social Policies & the change up in rules like 1upt... I know civ5 has its flaws too but I couldn't go back to any other civ game other than the odd SMAC game which i played quite abit as well.

Hi I'm Spfun, & I'm a Civilization addict! :)

First experienced Civ 2 on the playstation (God it was slow). Then bought civ 3 when my little sister bought a PC. Bought a laptop for a little under a grand just for Civ 4!!!!

And Civ 5 I have played just over 200 hours according to steam!

I played them all from the day of release. I remember the hordes of Zulu tanks that would suddenly engulf your lands!
My favourite was Civ2. I used to play similar to spfun.
My least favourite was Civ4. Hated the stacks of doom.
Upon release civ5 was definately the worst of the series, but the patches have been slowly but surely improving the game at least to the extent that it is now better than civ4.

Civ 2 was the first PC game I got when I bought my very first gamer PC with my hard earned savings. Before that I had played Civ 1 on my dads work labtop.

While I think that Civ IV bts is the best of the bunch, I've probably had my most cherished moments with Civ 3.

I would rate Civ 5 somewhere at 3.5/5 and Civ 4 bts at around 4.5/5.

Since the original release of the first Civilization game in 1991, I've played through all the versions including Colonization and Alpha Centauri.

I've played all versions from I to V, starting shortly after I came out... plus Alpha Centauri and it's expansion, Alien Crossfire.
Didn't play Colonization though or BtS (never did like SoD).

My first encounter with Civ was in 2006; downloaded a demo of Civ III. I loved and still love Civ III, although I haven't played much Civ III for 3 years or so by now.
Civ IV I downloaded the demo of but it didn't appeal to me. No buy. Instead I've played stuff like Heroes of Might and Magic III and RPG's like Eschalon and Dragon Age.

Only last friday I decided to try Civ V, and oh my, was I pleasantly surprised! Totally hooked on this one.

Since the original release of the first Civilization game in 1991, I've played through all the versions including Colonization and Alpha Centauri. (2)

Proud to be a 20 years long addicted

9 years. Started on PS1 with Civ2. It was slow as hell in later stages but i loved that game. It's still better than the PC version for me. Got Civ3 in 2005(Got my first PC in 2005...poor living "sigh"). It was good but not THAT good. A few months later i got Civ4...Spent around 10000 hours since that day. Civ4 got 80% of that time. Civ3 and Civ2 - 15%...5% for SMAC. I only found out about this game last year:( Now it's my favorite:goodjob:
Civ5...80 hours since last october. Not a good game for me...

I remember seeing my friend play Civ I maybe right around the time it came out, but I never played it. Played TONS of Civ 2 during my senior year of college, ('99/'00)? Didn't really play at all again until Civ III, but I wasn't a huge fan and didn't play that much. On the other hand, if cIV were a frat boy, my life was its beer for about 2 years. I like ciV even more, but I don't get a lot of time to play, unfortunately.

My poll didn't show up. :(

Moderators can add polls afterwards, so PM one with the questions + the answers, if you still want one.

Ontopic: Started 12 years ago with Civ2 (got Ultimate at my confirmation), then Civ3 somewhen relatively short after the release and got Civ4 after WL came out.
And the amount of played hours is...insane :D!

I came to the series beginning with Civ III as soon as it was released. I skipped over 4 and went to 5 but just recently, through Steam, bought Civ 4 Complete, which I now play more than 5.

I started with Civ Rev at Spring, 2010. I loved it. It's not a complex game, but I had lots of fun. At Summer, I decided to get Civ4 Complete. Loved it as well, but it was very difficult (that's why I play vanilla Civ4 than BtS). And then, at Autumn, bought Civ5. Again, I love it, but there's things yet to improve (it should have been released at 2011 or 2012, not before).

Yeah... That was more or less my experience in the Civ series.
