Playtest Feedback Thread

I have no problem with the .fpk, my Diplomacy seems complete
Altough I had to start the download multiple times, as for the first 2 times it stopped at about 20% and the file was corrupted (only a few hundred megabytes from the ~620)
 
Typo in Dido's gametext, says she lived in uknown.
Ptolemy, Taizong, and a couple of others have random ???s and []s from copying-pasting directly from wiki, though nothing major.
Maurya has no favorite religion and his favorite civic is beaureaucracy
Are you still going to remove the Songhai leaders from Mali? As they're still in as of this playtest.
Genghis Khan has no favorite religion
Both Polynesian leaders are lacking favorite religions
Crazy Horse has no favorite religion
Mao has no favorite religion
Pol Pot has no favorite religion
Stalin has no favorite religion
Babylonian Bowman still could use a rename
Indian Fast Worker still could use a rename
Special Abilities section of King Rich's Crusade has [RELIGION ICON] tag visible

Just a quick list of notes while going through the civilopedia.
I'm not sure if all the lack of favorite religions are issues (Stalin and Mao don't need one, though I figured Khan, CH, Pol Pot, and Maurya were mistakes.)
 
Thanks, but can I remind everyone that leaders are being edited in the NEXT playtest, so there isn't really a need to bring that stuff up because I either already know about it or we are in the middle of discussing it.
 
We already discussed all these fav religions on the other thread
I suppose Capo just missed to put those in, but I'm sure he will

EDIT: yep, he intends to do this later, and he was also faster to answer :p
 
@ EC; could you try DLing it again? I know it sucks, but I don't have much time to put together a patch for you, and if everyone else's works there may have been an issue with the download (as Absinthe reported), so maybe another shot might work.
 
I downloaded it and it seems to be working fine, no errors on unarchiving and, aside from mac-related text encoding messages, no issues on launch.
 
Just had this popup under the announcements when I started my game: Directory from CivAltRoot.py is not valid or does not contain civilizationiv.ini

Never seen that before.
 
Checking UUs in civilopedia:

Ansar Warrior: the 2 first strike should be 2 first strike chance or 1-2 first strike (like Skirmishers)
Ballista Elephant: ok
British Regular: ok (namechange only)
Carolingian Paladin: tech requirements cool now, but I would change Blitz to another bonus (as Tarkan's have this promo too)
Catapracht: you forgot to increase cost to 100
Cidainh: ok
Hoplite: ok (namechange only)
Immortal: bonuses ok, civilopedia entry still speaks of mounted
Koa: ok
Legion: ok
Maccabee: ok
Mohawk Warrior: ok
Musketeer: ok (for now)
Quechua: you forgot to change to +50% attack and +100% defence against archers
Viet Cong: still with 2 moves, drop back to 1

Aesir Missionary is the last in the civilopedia, as the fonts don't have that AE letter (maybe this is just for me?). I would change it back to normal Aesir
You have 2 Jaguars in civilopedia. When you 'jump' from another page to Jaguar (from Swordsman for example), then it will go to the first Jaguar entry, which is the animal...
You should change one of the names. Maybe Jaguar Warrior for the Aztecs?
 
Also speaking of Jaguars reminds me, these are the current stats for the animals in the game:

Bear (3,1)
Cheetah (2,3)
Gorilla (4,2)
Jaguar (2,2)
Lion (2,1)
Panther (2,2)
Polar Bear (5,2)
Tiger (2,2)
Wolf (1,2)

Deer (1,2)
Elephant (3,1)
Horse (2,2)

I would definitely change some of these, especially the lion, gorilla and polar bear sounds bad to me


EDIT: Bear, Cheetah, Jaguar, Panther, Wolf ok
Lion and Tiger should be (3,2), Gorilla (3,1), Polar Bear (4,1)
Deer should be (2,2) Horse (2,3), Elephant (5,1) - as they can only defend it doesn't bad if they are stronger than they should be compared to the other animals

Also, you should change the civilopedia entry for Deer, Horse and Elephant from the usual beware, animals hunt your settlers and attack your units.
For something like: these animals won't attack you, but if you manage to capture them you won't regret it
 
Just got another error popup saying ART_DEF_IMPROVEMENT_CITY_RUINS_ARCOLOGY wasn't found.

I'm checking all of the unit arts now, alphabetically by civ. I'm up to Greece, and so far all is clear except:

Babylonian paratrooper has a bright pink backpack (purposeful?)
Front German Maceman is missing (replaced by a red orb)
Celtic spy is reversed. is the hot modern chick until modern age, where she becomes Spanish Inquisition guy in black robe
 
I've attached a replacement CIV4GameText_Civilopedia_BTS.xml. In it I've made all the fixes needed for Diplomacy II to launch on Mac without any xml errors or broken text tags. There should be no noticeable difference on a PC, if it does throw an error let me know. I've also done a thorough spellcheck of all English sections of the file - thanks to this the Oguz Turks no longer found their own separate homoland!

I'm still iffy on the Salon and Odeon for right now, so I didn't change them in those respects. The Mossad hasn't been changed because I haven't added the Spymod yet. So I'm good as far as I needed to be at this point.

Didn't notice the Babylonian Paratrooper thing yet, but I'll fix that, unfortunately I can't really do it in a patch so you'll have to deal with it for now. The maceman I can fix with XML, same for the Celtic spy.

As with the Odeon and Salon, I am still iffy on changing the vanilla UUs, so those aren't mistakes but omissions I made for now. I will probably change them, but I didn't change them intentionally.

I think I'm going to give the Paladins Leadership, but again, I was unsure so haven't changed them.

I forgot to change the Immortal civilopedia entry, good catch.

For Viet Cong, I am also dubious about changing this right now.

I'll change the Jaguar to Jaguar Warrior or Jaguar Knight, or I'll find the Aztec equivalent.

I actually tried to download it again, and extracted the leaderhead.pak

that seamed to work fine, outside of taking alot longer to load. I will un bundle the entire download again to see if it fixes the Archology issue.

Capo, if you change [RELIGION_ICON] to [ICON_RELIGION], it will make the icon appear.

I don't have time to check each individual fix yet, but it loads fine.
