Playtesters needed for TSFE Axis!

Yugoslavia. :) Totally surrounded by Axis - human player.

Yugoslavia has no movable units and builds only field fortresses.
Axis can invade it safely in 1941. If you invade Yugoslavia before the coup in March 1941 then Allies gain support in Balkans.

I think that now, when negotiations are allowed, Battle for France is not very hard. You can plan the offensive so that you take most of Northern France and Paris without losing a unit. It is possible! And then make peace/alliance with France to avoid their counterattack.

I afraid that if France has no forces in South then human player simply conquer all the country without second thought and there will be no Vichy France.

What do you think if I make all Paris defenders disappear after you take Amiens? It is historical: Paris was declared a free city and abandoned without fight..

Well, it may be historical, but I think it will make it too easy for the German player. Paris, taken without a single round fired! :)

The city is not a simple town. I used the airport to repair dozens of planes before crushing England. It is also strategically placed:
all of France and most of Britain is within range of your Ju-88s.

What others think about the Battle of France? Tracid? Case? ..

Right now I have made it this way:

When Axis takes Lille then France loses several tanks north of the city.
When Axis takes Abbeville (renamed from Amiens) all French armies in North East are disbanded, also all Paris defenders - Paris will be empty city.
When Axis takes Paris then all Maginot line fortifications are disbanded.

I like that idea. I think it will be better. France wasn't that hard for the NAZI's to conquer. And before you had Paris too defended. :)

Marko, don't you think that the paradrop range (20) is set too high? You can paradrop an Airborne unit from Königsberg to the gates of Moscow, or from Paris to Belfast! ;)

That's why the Germans always capture Ullapooll and other remote cities at the beginning after destroying the garrison with long-range bombers and sending paratroopers, from Norway I guess.

The paradrop range should the the range of the bombers, to simulate the way that the paratroops can go to paradrop

i say 15, because paratroops in ww2 usually jumped WAY WAY OF COURSE, meaning they jumped farther than they were suppose to jump :)

Yes, several people have said that paradropping range should be shorter in TSFE. But there are strong AI reasons why I set it to 20:

I use MOVEUNIT commands in events to make AI strategy better. But as events space is limited, I can't list all cities as targets. It means that often AI empties a non-target city but don't occupy it -all its ground forces avoid the city and go for their set target.
But paratroopers capture always empty city in their range.

The problem is that computer almost never moves paratroopers. It only paradrops them to empty cities. If I make paradropping range shorter then I have to make many more paratroopers places around the map. Now there are only 4: in London, Gibraltar and Malta for Allies and in Moscow for Soviets. They cover all the map.

What other playtesters think about paratroopers?

I don´t think that the AI ever used paratroopers against me in my games.......
I use them mainly to block the soviets from reinforcing the front, because the soviet AI ALWAYS uses roads. They are also useful to take korsika and malta. I used them a couple of times in north africa, as well, and of course against the brits, when conducting short raids with limited objectives.
Tried sea lion two times so far, after beating the soviets early 43...the first time I was clearly defeated in the air battle and my troops where getting murdered by the RAF.
The second time I was controlling the channel with my fleet and had whiped out every single plane the RAF had. Managed to land about 30+tanks before all of my transports where sunk despite the best efforts of my whole fleet. However, I did hold the southern part of England when the game ended.....it´s really hard, though. I don´t think that you would survive the attempt to do this before you beat the soviets. Far too many resources involved. As for the paratroopers in sea lion, no use at all. They were wiped out by ships mostly, and the few inland where for no use as the AI did a good job rushing every weapon it had to the defense of london..............

Here is the new version (1.5). You can overwrite earlier version or unzip files to a new scenario folder. These 3 zips contain everything neccessary to play the scenario. You need only to download sound1 and sound2 from

Civfanatics downloads

This version is only for playtesters! Please write you comments here or to my e-mail.

I didn't add game.txt, describe.txt and modified .dll files as I'm still working with them.

When playtesting, I found a tech tree bug. It is fixed now and here is the rules update.

Also I made a complete tech tree out from these "Civil Technologies". I named them after famous WW2 operations in Europe. The idea is that player can get overview about historical battles when reading descriptions of these advances from Civilopedia. Check these advances out!
Only I have to write all these stories :( And I'm not so good storywriter..

I can help you with writing stories, marko. I'm a pretty good writer (I think...).
You got Msn messenger or ICQ or something so we can get in touch? Otherwise we'll just do it here....
I'd love to help you out.
Sincerly, TRACID

Thank you Tracid! :)

I don't have ICQ, so lets do it here.

The scenario had 35 Civil Technologies just sitting there uselessly. My idea is to turn them into linked stories where player can follow the whole war in Europe like it was historically.

The topics, like they are now:

1. War in Poland 39
2. Winter War between Finland and Soviet Union 39-40
3. Occupation of Denmark and Norway 40
4. Occupation of Baltic countries and cutting of Rumenia 40
5. Battle for France 40
6. Blitz 40-41
7. Italian adventures in Greece and Africa 40-41
8. Germans against Yugoslavia and Greece 41
9. Rommel 41
10. Occupation of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Persia 41

Then comes the Barbarossa...

I haven't yet clear idea about how long/short these stories could be, about their form and content etc. I like to put more stress to less known battles and events, especially in Eastern Front.
