So I pick up the game thinking my PC could play it. I'm playing my first successful game and I set it up for conquest victory with 8 civs on a huge map. I'm at about 1978 and ready to make my move for world conquest. However, when I make the opening attack everyone declares war on everyone...I expected this however, I didn't anticipate that after this the time spent "waiting" between turns would be upwards of 45 min.

I'm running a 1.8 Ghz Pentium 4 with 1.25 GB of Ram, and an NVidia Gforce2 MX 100/200. Is this normal or do I have a driver, or some other issue.

I'd really like to finish my game but the waits are too much.

Unfortunately this is normal for some computers, though your is more advanced and the wait times should be too bad. Trust me, 45 minutes isn't that bad...My computer has only 500MB of RAM and once I waited 2 hours for one turn :p

A Huge map, with Railroads, is going to take a long time, no matter your specs. The engine use in Civ3 (the same engine as Civ2 and SMAC) wasn't designed to handle that kind of game. The code is kludgey, and not optimized at all. While it "functions", it clearly wasn't expected to handle the kind of workout you are giving it. The only "solution" I know of is to play on smaller maps, or wipe everybody out before they get railroads.
