please suggest a game

Yeah Terraria is more like Minecraft in 2D as far as I'm aware? I haven't tried it but that's generally what I heard.

No, Terraria is an 8-bit Minecraft with a lot more combat and (I think) some story. I could be wrong on the story, I haven't played it.

As to the OP, may I recommend the Red Orchestra games? Although lacking a story or single-player (for the first one, anyway), they're extremely tactical FPS games.

Terraria is 2D in that you can only move left or right.
There is no movement forward or back. The characters move in 2d space.

Terraria is a bloody brilliant game; I have nearly 80 hours logged on it. The only major fault it has is having little to do at the end of the game.

Comparing it to Minecraft is like comparing a television to a computer; sure, they're similar, but no where near the same thing.

I would also recommend the Red Orchestra games. While they're bleeding difficult and are shooters, you have to think about all your actions and make sure you're not running into a field covered by a sniper or machine gun. They're great fun, even if you suck at them... I'm bloody terrible at Red Orchestra 2, though I used to be a pretty great tank driver in the first one...
I remember one time in Red Orchestra 1 (the Darkest Hour mod thing) where me and my gunner were in a little tiny Stuart and we took out two Tigers. Great fun.

Terraria is a sandbox game with slight MMO aspects but it's not an MMO. It is basically a 2D Minecraft, but they branched it out more to crafting and some nintendo type aspects. For $10 it beats Minecraft IMHO, except you of course only have X and Z dimensions, not XYZ.

OTOH, if you want a Counter-strike 2D, there is one, although I'd recommend Soldat. http://soldat.thd.vg/en/

How does Terraria have MMO aspects? The maximum amount of players you can have on a server is 8.

I'm not really looking for a CS game, nor anything online. I'd prefer something that is single player, thinky, and has a good storyline.

Soldat is surprisingly tactical as well and requires a good couple of hours to acquire mastery over controls and a full understanding of the inertia. Does have a single player mode, but no story and the bot AI is either cheaty aimbot or dumb-as-rocks. Probably not for you, but if anyone else is looking for a fun and different shooter game it is an excellent choice.

Just to give an idea of the direction in which I'm looking, I've been considering taking another run through the Baldur's Gate series. It's a little dated, but has a good storyline (from what I can remember) and somewhat interesting gameplay (with party management). I wish there were more puzzles and whatnot, though. I was also thinking of doing the same with the Thief series, as I really liked the finesse it took to get through a sneaker, as opposed to a shooter. Still, I'd rather play something I haven't played before.

The crafting mainly, and the server list has servers that go up to 500 players. I never got into the online stuff, so that might be using 3rd party software, IDK.
