Poll #8, "How old are you?", ended today with
a total of 426 votes. It ran for 26 days, same length as the last poll.
Here are the poll results:

As someone pointed out in the comments, the shape is almost a perfect bell curve! The poll shows
that 50 percent of civers are between 16 and 25 years old and 80 percent Civers are under 33 years old.
What do you think of this result? <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

Maybe older people would had played civ´s but they were too old(or didnt care) to learn
new generations invention, computer. Maybe they played some board games which were something like Civ. I´m 21 and played civ I too but dont remember much about it. So I kinda missed whole game. And now when there´s Civ II I have no time(or intrest) to play it.

This is one of the more odd things I've read.
So the "young" people will stay in some time warp? Peter Pannish, if you will?
Or do you merely mean "Civ" generals, and currently?

I appear to be above two standard deviations to the high end of the curve.

Out of college people (like me

) tend to have complicating factors like families and jobs which make it difficult to spend time playing computer games (Lord knows they get in the way of my gaming all the time

). I was actually kind of pleasantly surprised at the number of 50+ year olds playing. Hope I'm still gaming, too, at that age.

As a member of the 26-32 group, I'm glad to see my demographic well represented. I'm also a member of the has-a-job-and-a-family- and-a-wife-who-regrets-ever- getting-me-this-@#$%-game- for-Christmas-because-when- I- play-I-become-an-obsessed-zombie demographic. Anybody else part of that club?

Well, representing the over 40-under 50 group, I have more time to play since I am single, with no kids(yet). I know I have to discipline myself as far as playing time, or it can become an all nighter. I have found it to be a great outlet after dealing with idiots and morons all day(yes, I work in retail). I think if more people played it as an anger outlet, there would be less work place shootings. Better to blast the AI, then co-workers.

Just a thought.

Well, I myself am 24 but represent the "my-wife-is-going-to-kick -my-butt-if-I-stay-on-this-game -a-second-longer" group of men.

I'm into my last few weeks of representing the 11-15 group, which means I'll probably have to get a job soon.

And just when I was getting good, too. As for the bell-curve, I can see massive global overhaul once this crop of Civers reaches politician age. Should be interesting.

What he means is that the young people today will be the generals of tomorrow!

Oh. Bummer.
I thought I had new recruits to my company of Lost Boys.
Instead, I take it you plan to join the ranks of Hook?
That will be your misfortune.

Nothing personal to Vanilla, but how exactly does a game like Civilization maintain hand-eye coordination in anyone?! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>

You know what I mean ... this isn't D**m or Q^@ke or anything. By the way, that's why I like Civ so much. I'd MUCH rather win a long, slow strategy game with my mind than lose a fast-paced shoot-em-up reaction game with my (slow) reflexes!
<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/rocket.gif" border=0>

But imagine how Civ could help ...

** start Wayne's World deddle-deddle-deddle dream sequence ** <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/cwm33.gif" border=0>

FROM SID MEIER'S OVER-50 HAND-EYE COORDINATION RESEARCH LAB
(read one line every half hour):
1) Subject's eye identifies Settler and surrounding Terrain
2) Subject's hand moves mouse to drag Settler to the right
3) Subject's hand releases mouse button
4) Subject's eye identifies "B" key on keyboard
5) Subject's hand closes except for the pointer finger
6) Subject's hand makes a large arc and accurately finds and presses "B" key
7) Subject does not like the default city name and starts to use eye to find the first keyboard character to change it ...

OK, OK, we're not gonna stick around for all this ...

** deddle-deddle-deddle dream sequence OVER **

Truly, I mean no disrespect to our 50+ population. Just having some fun!! I'll be there someday too (30 now), and my spunky wife (46) will be there even sooner.

And, to me, a fellow Civ player is a fellow Civ player, regardless of demographics.

Here's to us! Masters and enthusiasts of the greatest computer game ever created! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/beerchug.gif" border=0>

PS - I also fall into category of: wife thinks I'm a pathetic dweeb for staying up all hours of the night and has no sympathy when I'm tired and the (young) kids need something. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/blushing.gif" border=0>
