Poll shows 80% of Civers are under 33 years old!

Actually, I've got a bit of seniority on you though possibly not on La Fayette. Anyway, CIVI, CIVII and scenarios have kept me out of trouble ever since I first saw a CIVI box in a display case. :)

The poll shows that the majority is under 33.
But I guess I am the only member of the minority that is over 2*33 (since I am precisely 66 :p ).

Ah, la fayette, I am not far behind you. Were it not for Civ I would have gone insane by now, of course, I may go insane because of Civ.

@La Fayette

Dammit, I think you probably can beat my Sept '38.

Yes you can! Dammit, you have seniority by 13 days over my Sept 25.

I figured we'd be close when, a long time ago, you mentioned in a post that you were a child in Caen during WWII. Congratulations. :goodjob: :)

I'm amazed to hear that. La fayette, were you in Caen in June '44?

I've got an uncle who tells me stories about surviving the Bataan Death March in '42...

I guess I'm in the upper 20% because I'm 50 years old and love the game. I've been playing (when I can) for about a year now.

You are just another one of those young ones.

No, I wasn't (I should probably say "luckily not", since the battle of Caen was a bloody one also for civilians).
I lived in Caen from 1945 to 1948 (my mother was the Head of the secondary school for girls; she had to "fight for classrooms", since the Town Hall had been destroyed and most of the school's buildings had been taken over by the city's administration; my bedroom was right over the Mayor's office :) ).

I wonder if this thread will win the 'longest wait for a bump award' for the year -- and it is only January! This thread was started two grandchildren ago!

I'm now 20 but I got my first CIVII about 10 years ago. My father also used to play it in the first month(actuelly he bought the game for himself but now I've occupied it) but then he had not enough time anylonger. I think computer-games are always played by mostly young people.

Maybe we started off as young people and got old faster by playing too many computer games. :crazyeye:

Hello people. Newbie here. First post. I'm in the older generation. Before PCs there were war games. They came in a box. When I was in the Army ('70s), we played one boardgame called "D-Day". It was played on the map of Europe. The pieces were small chits representing units. Each chit (depending on the type of unit - infantry, armor, paratroopers, etc.) had numbers at the bottom representing movement, attack and defense capability. The standard game was, one side took the Allies, and one the Axis. The Allies could choose where to invade; Normandy, Calais, etc. or try the southern route through Sicily and Italy. The Axis chose where to mass their forces to defend. It took two hours just to set up before the first move. We used to play it all night long. Once I left the Army, I moved on and never looked back. Running into Civ III (a few weeks ago) has reawakened the enjoyment for these kinds of games (I minored in history).

I've only played about five games and won two and tried five different civs. My favorite right now is the Byzantines. Can't beat that Dromon. I'm playing 70% archipelago and I'm on a large contintent connected by two isthmuses to the Sumerians and Greeks. I know the Carthaginians are out there, but I haven't run into them yet. Anyway, I've stacked both ithmuses with three cities. In each city there's a catapult, two dromons and eight Pikemen. Since I have the Statue of Zeus, I'm able to stack (behind these cities) numerous ancient cavalry. Let them come!

Also, I'm populating another large continent which is seperated from the other known continent by a one square leap which a galley or Dromon could make. But since I got there first, I've lined six Dromons across the gap and nobody has been able to jump it yet. So I populate at leisure until somebody comes up with navigation.

Anyway. It's a pleasure to find this game, and this site. Hopefully, I can control my addiction and remember to eat, sleep, etc. :D

This Grandma seconds the welcome with a big smile and a good luck. :)

Rohirrim, you would be suprised how fast 3AM can come when you are playing Civ. My Grandson addicted me and now I have passed the addiction on to my Husband and Father. My Father is 82 and the three of us talk about Civ and drive my Mom nuts. Hope your family is understanding.

This group is a great help. There is always someone who can answer the questions.

Have fun!!!!!

Welcome! Was that one of the old Avalon Hill games? I used to play "Blitzkrieg", "Midway", "Tobruk" and "Wooden Ships & Iron Men" in the afternoons after high school back then. I learned all about formation icons from those chits...

This sounds like Civ3, or are you playing a Civ2 scenario? If so, what's it called?

That is OK, vist anytime.

Better yet, try Civ II. Different but fun.

I am 43 year old i played civ 1 about 100 time in the last ten year.
I played few time civ II and a dozen or more time alpha centauri .I made any kind off victory possible in all the game (mostly conquest) what amaze me is that in civ I never used the manual and in Alpha centauri I consult the manual all time.
