Random.

I find the game mechanics incentivize certain civs too strongly (science and culture/tourism civs, or those with flexible bonuses that can go in that direction), and I'd never play the other ones if I don't spin random the first five or six games.

Germany.

VI is all about districts, and Germany gets its own (Hansa) plus an extra one.

And I am also interested in interactions with city states under the new rules, and playing against Germany might serve as a deterrent, depending.

Heh. I really like the German bonuses, but for me the best reason to play Germany is so I don't have to deal with that terrible agenda (hates you if you interact, at all, with an automatic subsystem)

France. Culture victory was my favorite type in 5, so that's already a huge plus, and the Espionage/Diplomacy bonuses seem fun and go well with my more peaceful playstyle.

Finally, Catherine De'Medici is the real life Cersei Lannister, so it'd be awesome to play as her.

Can you explain Germany's bonus a little better? Does that mean they get to build an extra district once they hit the population requirement?

I'm going Russia. I like the idea of getting an early religion and a lot of free tiles. Then I like having the option to go domination with cossacks or culture or religious victory. All viable as Russia it seems.

To append to my reply to the other thread....and to reply to question why another thread was started when the other even has a survey....

In addition to liking the look of Rome and Greece, I think Germany could be sexy with +1 military policy and +industry boosts, as a non-diety playing wonder builder I like the look of China too.

I tend to pick the civs I play based on their bonuses and how those fit more style rather than saying, I'm an from this country so I need to play as that country. I rarely like the bonuses/abilities for the USA in civ for my style.

Even after thousands of hours of Civ 5 there were many civs I never tried nor would ever try.

Brazil. Just made my choice.
Battleships allways were one of my favorite units, and Brazil has the strongest battleship.

Anyway ill play all of them sooner or later.
