Civ:
Probably random
Speed:
standard speed
Map:
standard continent map
Difficulty:
King (level 5 out of 8) (which is 0-1 levels below my normal difficulty (King/Emperor in Civ 5)

Why?
Prince AI looks horrific in the youtubers version so I will likely try King first.

I hate playing where I roll over everything or if I get destroyed easily so I try to find a competitive middleground. I usually don't min-max so it's doable.

Traditional random civ and map type
Standard speed and map size
Emperor

Civilization: Scythia

Speed: Standard

Map: TBD

Difficulty: Deity (hopefully this won't be like CIV:BE where Apollo was a joke on release...)

I'm going with Scythia for the double Light Cavalry, my aim is to try and see how the AI will react in a full scale attack early game. Hopefully it will be able to defend itself.

Overall I have no idea how my first game will go but I'm hoping to get destroyed.

Rome or Sparta (Greece - Gorgo). Later on maybe America, Spain and Norway.

Moderator Action: Moderators are able to add more than 10 options to polls. Unfortunately I did not realize that merging the threads together in the new forum would not actually carry over the voting data. Because of this mistake the poll got reset and all votes were lost. I'm sorry for any inconvenience that this caused.

Re-voted Greece after the reset, with the recently revealed Gorgo getting the nod over Pericles. So many interesting Civs to choose from. Rome, Scythia, Aztecs, Germany, Sumer...can't decide who I'll play second.

Civ: Saladin
Speed: Standard
Difficulty: Prince

As for map I'm yet undecided on that. I'm not a particularly good civ player so I'll start on Prince and work my way up. I like Saladin's ability along with his civ's features but it's a pretty hard decision since I like several of the civs available at launch.

Most likely Random, Regent/Noble-ish difficulty, Large map, a fair number of civs, continents. If it runs like a hot knife through butter with those settings, I'll crank it up to Huge maps for the next game.

My very first Civ game, in Civ3, I played as America. I could try to make America great again, but if it went like it did the first time, it would be a disaster. So I'll spare America that fate unless the RNG decides otherwise.

Brazil because I like rainforest, standard speed to try stuff out more quickly (I normally play epic or marathon), prince so I won't be too stressed and can play around first game, pangea to meet my neighbors quickly. Probably standard size. I'll play against all the other civs whose leaders I most like looking at.

Although I am excited to give Rome a go, I think I am going to start with America while I get my feet wet. Being as I am in school, the next couple of months are going to be busy. So when I get a chance to play, I'll go with America which seems like it is a well rounded civ with no real significant bonuses, but not nerfed either. When winter break comes, I should be ready to dive into a Rome game on a Large map and probably marathon game speed.

still not 100% sure but most likely...

Civilization: Japan
They seem like the most complex and unique civ in terms of how the bonus adjacency changes how they approach internal development. I prefer to focus on micromanaging my cities, and generally optimising what I have, rather than taking more. Warfare is fun too, but usually I do it just to cripple opponents rather than incorporate their backward garbage cities into my glorious perfectly thought out and implemented empire. If I were the biggest narcissist in the world I would think they designed Japan just for me, actually.
Russia and Egypt are very close runners up though. All Civs with some major twist on how they develop their cities, I guess seems to be the pattern.
Sumeria and Norway seem like a lot of fun too because they're rewarded for crippling opponents, not necessarily conquering -I like that. It allows you to sit back and build up your homelands by taking advantage of being aggressive toward opponents and participating in world affairs.

Speed: Epic
I prefer the delay of gratification and the need to plan further ahead in real-time (and remember further back as a result). Longer build times on units and comparatively faster movement to everything else also makes sitting on no military to rush ahead economically more of a risk, which it aught to be. It also makes wars less of a grind, as victories and losses are more decisive. Also I have plenty of free time.

Map: Continents
Ideally, It provides the most balanced experience.

Difficulty: Emperor
Hopefully I'll get my ass kicked. If I can beat emperor on my first try I'll be disappointed, and I don't mind losing at all. I just want to feel like all my micromanaging is necessary.

Honestly, every civ is looking really great. So for the first time in my Civ history, maybe random.

And then reload repeatedly, most likely. :)

I'm also very interested in Russia and Egypt though. All Civs with some twist on how they develop their cities, I guess.

Japan olso has a unique ability that lets them construct theater square encampments and holy cities faster

so if you want a religion japan is the way to go faster holy sites are awesome. Faster great prophet points

Right-o, they have some other abilities and plenty of other unique derived gameplay as well.

jep thats the reason why i want to play as japan spam holy sites everywhere next to mountains get lots of faith and get amazing religion and see if i can achieve the new religion victory..

Olso dont have niter? use youre samurai to capture a city that has it. or use it to defend against musketmen. It doesn't require iron.

I'll start with Germany for sure. I love "hammers" and the production bonuses look pretty cool with the Hansa and other districts. plus I dont mind a bit of war mongering if required! Therefore I'll start with Epic game speed and at least King or Emperor. Epic game speed is due to the new movement rules which seem a bit slower than Civ 5 so will work better with a slower game speed. Definiteky playing higher than Prince, because most let's plays made that AI look pretty noobish! lol. The BIG question will be, will I awake at 3am (AEDT) on Friday morning to start playing? or is that a little too hardcore!!?? ;-)

I'll start a single-player game as America as I've done since Civ III, and then I'll play a multiplayer game with two friends as Spain

Starting with the Kongo, been on my wish list forever and now they're here. The rainforest cheese looks fun, I'll try getting the biggest most ridiculous yields I can which is always fun for me.

Nice balance of stuff, not being able to found a religion will be tough but they have other fun stuff to make up for it

Greece (Gorgo)
Standard speed
Large map
Continents
Prince
Greece is very flexible and therefore a good choice for learning the basics in my estimation. Gorgo because I think her LUA will be more effective early.
