"If this was Civ II"? Can you not do this with the editor for Civ III?

I mean there is, sadly, no Cheat Mode or scenario-bulding in Civ III.

I like to do an ancient horsemen rush to kepp up with the AI. Sucks if greece is your neighbor.

Bismark is the biggest pain in the rear. He is sooo aggressive! Even when he's on the other side of the world he will demand things, then declare war if I don't give it to him. Then several turns go by, and he hasn't done anything but won't accept my envoy. Finally some battleships show up and start bombarding my coast. This seems to satisfy him, and after a few turns he is ready to make peace again.

Hmm, Germany has declared war on me once in one of my games, but since he was on the other side of the world, he never ended up sending any units. I was like, "OK, you psychopath, say whatever you want, just keep out of my way" :)

The Zulus are also very aggressive. They will declare war even though they have to march several turns through another country to get to me. In this last game I played, they were wiped off of their home continent and banished to one city on a little island stuck between India and Germany. They were still declaring war on other countries and joining alliaces! Finally I decided to wipe them out so they wouldn't have a scale-tipping vote in the UN. When my gunboats got over to their little city, it was undefended! I think they had sent everything they had to fight in someone else's war on the other side of the world. Tsk tsk.

Ha that's awesome. I should check to see in my current game if they have any troops defending at home :)

Well after reading all the posts about Germany here I decided to go and start a game and have them as one of my opponents. Huge world, 5 opponents and me. Me (Babylonians), Russians, Chinese, and Persians all were on one contient. Boy it was funny watching them rip into each other with their riders and immortals heh. Anyways, Germany and France were on the other continent, and I was the first one to make contact with them around 1300 AD or so. Me and the Germans got off to a great start. I gave them some gold and communications and some technology for like 3 or 4 luxuries that they had. So I thought, this Bismarck guy is not so bad.

Anyways I started colonizing the last parts of the unused land just below where the Germans were. Around this same time, Russia and China signed a mutual protection pact, and they BOTH came to me to ask if I would sign one with them too. Usually I dont go for mutual protection pacts, but a 3 way one didnt sound too bad, at least this way I would be ok if Germany or France tried anything. I had JUST worked out a deal with Bismarck to keep him importing his luxuries to me when he decides to SNEAK ATTACK ME. THAT #&@%! I had paid him a huge lump sum of gold, plus some techs, for what I thought would be 20 turns of non-stop WLTKDs. But NOOOOOO that biatch attacked me, effectively ripping me off of all my money. Then he starts knocking off my somewhat lightly defended cities on his continent with his armies of knights. A few knights arent much for my infantry, but a few DOZEN knights are. They just kept coming.

Ok i thought, just wait a few more turns Bismarck you f*ckhead, I am researching motorized transportation, I'll have a surprise headed your way. Well I get tanks and start to buld them, but as soon as I get a few cranked out, he pillages my rubber. I dont think I have ever been more pissed off at a game in my life. I dont even think that Shaka has ever made me that mad. It was bad enough he did a sneak attack, but right after I [aid him lots of cash (around 1500 or so I think) and some techs for luxuries? Arrrrrgg...... Anyways, he pissed me off so much that I finally went on, with France's help, to wipe the ugly German stain off the planet. After this game, if I could vote over I just might have to vote for Germany.

Hmm... I've never made extensive deals with Germany (probably because I've never gotten a fair one), but I guess that's probably a good thing!

Japanese are the worst, by far. They will never declare war on me, but they will constantly try to disrupt my trade roads by plopping cities on them. Leaving units on my roads to block them...etc.
They will also be the first to grab unnocupied land when I wipe out another civ by razing all cities. This is the kind of tactic which really drives me nuts
They are the sneakiest bastards, and quite agressive too.

JAPAN :whipped:

RX2000's post reinforced my usual tendency to always pay for luxuries, resources, et al on a per turn basis only. Never give up tech or lump sum payment for things which can expire at the crack of a pistol. I will pay lmp sum for tech because then I have it forever.

Funny...I'm the Iroquois in a game now, and my continent was originally shared with the Americans, Persians, Aztecs, and Zulus. The Zulus were positioned between the Persians and me, and they were the first civilization wiped off the map. I guess their attitude ain't so bad if it means you get help in getting rid of them. :)

In the same game, I've gotten the Germans to be gracious with me! Unfortunately, the honeymoon might soon be over -- our alliance is done, and they're starting to hang around a little too long...

Now the Americans, they're an annoying bunch to face -- demanding, snooty, and won't go AWAY!

Just my $.02 :)

Yeah, the Americans are pretty bad, too... They expand like nobody's business, and will go out of their way to settle a useless piece of land if it's inside my empire. Lincoln is a big warmonger and won't forget if you have the gall to turn aside one of his invasions. At least he isn't suicidal like Shaka of the Zulus... Still, I usually try to kill off all of the bloody Americans if I end up next to them (same goes for Zulu, Aztec, Germany, Japan, and Rome). England annoys me to no end, but for some reason they are usually just talk and are about normal aggressiveness. France I've found a consistent partner to work with (although I have wiped them out in one game, they're usually nice allies in the majority of games). Greece makes a great science partner, or vassal, if you wish :) Haven't had too many problems with China, Greece, France, India, and Egypt, they're all OK in my book (at least most of the time)

germans are by far the most annoying for the fact that they are the most aggressive race and always demand stuff and when they don't get anything even if they are all the way on the opposite side of the planet they will declare war on you. so when 10 turns later you see those damn blue troops approaching your cities your like **** i just remembered im at war with them dumb germans.

i also find france to be the best ally because of the fact that joan is trustworthy and always follows you. indians also are trustworthy soemwhat.

In the Editor, the Germans are at the high end of the Aggression scale.

I wonder if lowering it a notch would not only make the Germans less aggressive but also LESS PSYCHO.

Oh wow, I didn't know that civs had actual agression levels preprogrammed in. I thought it was just a matter of their civ traits that determined their actions (which was why Zulu tends to be insane...). Maybe the "aggression" level is a catch-all including how reasonable they are and such... Germany and Zulu would then both be insane, as well as bloodlusty...

i think the indians are real potential threats if u started far away from them. they are fast in techs, quite aggressive at times and mean at other times. they declared war on me everytime another civ fights me for no reasons, without mmp wadsoever. and they already had same amount of ironclads as i do. till i finish the japs in between me and india i will teach them a good lesson. the zulus are on my map, but 3 continents away, so i dont bother. think they are fighting babylonians now...

It's always a wonder that with a leader such as Ghandi, why are the Indians so agressive?

What about the aztecs? it seems like everytime im next to them they come strolling onto my land with a dozen or so jags. you keep telling them to leave and they keep coming back. i always line up on the border when im next to them.

I'm surprised Egyptians haven't really been mentioned in this thread. She's always a "must kill first" on my hit list.

She always annoys me, she is always annoyed by me and she is ********.

I always start my games with random players .. for some reason, I'm cursed. She seems to end up next to me like in 80% of my games. Bad roll of the dice I suppose.

I agree Mr. Zulu and Mr. Germany are quite annoying too. If I start close to those goons, it's a must kill them asap situation.

I agree. Indians can be easily taken care of if they're near you but if they another continent, their culture is ridiculously high and science is high.

I hate the Germans, Zulus Americans and Japanese.
Germans: Well everybody's answered that. back-stabbers.
Zulu: Shaka always threatens me and demands money. I sometimes disagree and he says "i commend your bravery" and other times when i have an army 2 times his, he declares war. he's just an idiot/
Japanese: They don't dare declare war on me but they always settle in those little holes in my empire, usually in some desert. Its just really annoying.
Americans: They expand so fast, and always sign MPPs with civs i don't like and we have war and they never cease to annoy me with their stupid iron clads and bombing my roads.

Romans never are a problem. They are usually pretty weak and only threat is their legionares. Otherwise they're wimps.

replying to a post earlier about trading with money per turn and luxaries and other goods. this is one of my strategies i like to do. once i get past the first golden age i stop tech research total and start making gold. by now i can usually get about 30+ gold per turn and when i have a sizable army i ask my neighbor for trades. make sure u have no gold and its all used up before you ask for trades. now trade gold per turn and luxaries for techs and you've gained back ahead to there tech levels. for 30+ gold per turn you can usually get around 3-6 techs and also luxaries will get you another. after your done making the trade declare war and acourse you've losted nothing.

acourse the cpu notices this and furthermore they wont trade techs with you till at least the next golden age but hey its worth it for the free techs and the land from your neighbor.

Heh, I think you'd be the most annoying civ to play against if there was ever an MP :)
