They did confirm that the holding up statue DOES relate to the February FREE update. so it's possible it si a free game mode (a la Shuffle Mode), that does something small enough.
I'd love a whole range of interaction with barbarians beyond just combat. My ideal would actually be if there were no city states to start and 'barb camps' just grew into free cities and different city states depending on time and other civs interactions with them (loyalty pressure, trade, diplo).
I think that's far outside what this Feb update will be (esp. since it'll be vanilla compatible presumably), but it's promising they are doing something.
Downside is it's another game mode that will primarily affect early game.
They also have the existing art from the Pirate scenario that they could bring over into the base game.I'm holding out hope that this could feature 'barbarian hordes' that show up and launch an attack in the Medieval Era (a la the Huns/Mongols). Likewise have some actual pirates show up around the Renaissance, and have bandits/highwaymen for Industrial, etc
Future Era could be a full on alien invasion![]()
I doubt the Zulus would allow Barbarians to use their Impis... Also, Barbarians are hard enough in Civ 6, and you want them to get the best Anti-Cavalry Unit as well?I wonder if it's going to be something similiar to RFC's from Civ 4 where certain part of the world woudl spawn special units, like Dog Soldiers in the Americas, and Impis in the Africa.
I'm not sure about specific areas of the world, but when I first noticed an update to barbarians I was thinking that the Gaesatae, could be the inspiration for the new look for some of the standard barbarian warriors. If they go by continents they would definitely spawn in Europe.I wonder if it's going to be something similiar to RFC's from Civ 4 where certain part of the world woudl spawn special units, like Dog Soldiers in the Americas, and Impis in the Africa.
They could resemble Impis but not necessarily have the same strengths as them, similar to how the Barbarian Horse Archer is a little different from Scythia's Saka Horse Archer.I doubt the Zulus would allow Barbarians to use their Impis... Oops, didn't really pay attention to that part. Apologies.I didn't mean literally, I was merely saying how it worked in RFC mod in Civ 4.
It would be a nice aesthetic change.I remember barbarians in Civ 4 could found settlements that had the names of real historical tribes (Goths, Huns, Angles, Jutes, etc.), could this happen again for Civ 6?
No, I think it was Rome Total War: Barbarian Invasion. Was it civ 4 that had the scenario where you played as the barbarians? I think that might be too close to the pirates mode but it's something to think about.

So you mean bringing back the Huns for Civ 6 in a game mode?It coul actually be that, I know a number of people brought up the idea you start without a settler and must conquer a city and expand from there. I remember peopled thought that's how the Huns would work in Civ 5 when they were announced for a while.
