Post Short Single Player Tips Here

Yes, I agree with you...........But, it's still a good tip......and that's the name of the thread! ;)

This isn't cheating...Or an exploit.

Yes, thank you Bllasae for your wonderful advice, or tip, or whatever you just told me. I GET the picture. OK?

Naw, I'm just kidding. Its just that that post was a while ago and many people have already commented like that. I'm just a little rough around the edges right now, so sorry for blowing up on you like that.

Alright, my bad lol.

With a dominance game in mind the only unit I considered really useful for armies was the MA, recently I discovered the usefulness of armies consisting of Marines. Amphibious Armies are way more effective than all those individual Marines going in one at a time.

? I don't really understand this--you mean if you get an AA MGL, you won't do anything with it for a few hundred turns? Even though you won't get another one until you do, & can't build the MA until you get a victory with an army?

For my money, any unit is useful for an army at the time you get a MGL. I once had a horseman army; I snickered a little bit, but that didn't stop me from building it, using it, & playing smackdown with my nearest neighbors. (special circumstances; swordsmen were a ways away & an immediate army was useful right then. Besides, I wanted a chance for more MGLs.)

Horsemen can actually make formidable, high-HP, fast units. Of course the geography varies their usefulness much more so than swordsmen armies.

Horsemen Armies are fine and usually the best way to go.........But be careful: because they have such low defensive values, the AI will attack (and quite often defeat) them. ;)

They're really too fragile to depend on, though--that's why I snickered. (The other reason was that I usually don't get leaders so early in the game.) But they were the best unit I was likely to have for a while, so I used them. A swordsman army (which is definitely what I would have preferred) is robust enough to handle anything at its time, & the extra movement point makes it even-steven against fast units as well.

Which is really my point: any unit, at the time it is "current", will work well for an army. Some keep currency longer than others; cav armies last for quite a spell & are still useful, if not front line, all the way through the Moderns. Other obsoletes can sometimes get new life once the Pentagon comes on line & you can add a more powerful unit to the mix, beefing up the attack and defense. (The difference in movement can often be finessed, but even if it isn't, you usually aren't looking for speed for such a repurposed army.)

My original intent about armies was more focused on the end game and since armies can't be upgraded I tend to build armies without filling them until I have Modern Armor. I usually just disband out-dated armies of cavalry or tanks. Of course I am playing PTW so I only have GL but I think the concepts are the same for MGL, sounds like it anyway.

Anyway for the longest time by the end-game all I had were armies containing MA. Now I have 2-4 armies of Marines in the end-game which I find very useful.

Um... in vanilla, marines lose their amphib assault feature when put into armies. Did that change for PTW/C3C?

Yes, that changed, unit special abilities will be transferred into army.

An army only gains a special ability if all of the units in the army have that ability (e.g. an army of 2 marines and one rifle cannot make amphibious attacks).

Got info from: War Academy > Introductory Courses > The Basics of Armies By Theoden.

By endgame, I usually am just about to get tanks; it's very rare that a game last long enough to get Modern Armor. . . .

@Snarkhunter: Perhaps it's time to promote yourself to a higher level of play.............Unless you already play at Sid Level! ;)

Seriously, I can relate to exactly what you are saying.

Absolutely not. There are far too many bugs in my REXing, & after starting a game where my closest neighbor must have popped at least 2 settlers in the first 30-40 turns, I know I'm not ready for any of the levels that give the AI extra settlers/units.
