This is the official thread for the Post Wars Mod(s). Please, make sure you have ready through all the post wars before posting, unless it is not content relevant. Links to the various Post Wars will be coming here.

Post whatever you want about ideas, suggestions, organization, techs, etc.

Well, I suppose the Civ list would be rather obvious:
-Soviet Union
-Stellar Federation
-Towelites (?)
-Perfection Collective. (?)
-Plutonian Empire
-Republic of Specialist
-Corrians
-The Holy Empire
-Lyocians
-Colari Corperation
-Charais Dominion
-Firaxians(?)
-Nomads(?)

"(?)" marks represent debatable Civs.

Here are my initial thoughts on this:

Because of the scope of the PW, it would be best to concentrate on a particular era. This is especially relevant because of faction emergence/destruction.

All factions should have mostly unique units, but a couple common units among humanoids is not a bad idea.

There should be many non-required techs which only give bonuses to certain factions.

As for my suggestion for the first mod:
The entirety of PW2, maybe adding in a small portion of PW3 would be good. Most factions have interesting diversity of developement with no major additions/subtractions.

The Towelites really did not own territory or have units so they are out. The Squowels(Squid/Towels from the Poseidon days) did have plenty of both. Unfortunatley Civ 3 does not allow anything on water. The Mowels(underground towels destroyed during unification) could also be a faction, although that scope was very limited.

Unfortunately the Collective did not last very long and Perfection does not really come into the PW anymore.

The Firaxians would be good for a scenario, but they do not administrat anything, so that is probably out too.

The Nomads could feasibly be a faction. I do not know enough to say though.

Well, they will make a comeback soon. 1812's 'mimic' virus may have decimated the population, but there are survivors. The reason for their easy defeat in Ep.III will be explained soon in Ep.VI.

IMO, I don't think that the Soviets should really be an actual faction (or at least not a playable one in the regular scenario; it could be a lot like the "Fall of Rome" conquest, where all these little factions are focusing on taking down this big empire, though not exactly like that). My personal opinion would be, if you can somehow trigger specific events, to use those.

And, considering the era, replace Corians w/ FraFed and Perfection Collective w/ Republic of Zeon (even though we wasn't that more active than Perfection either).

Schwick's comment just gave me an idea: Why not do two separate scenarios, one on PW I-III and the other starting from PW IV? Granted, it would take a lot more effort, but we don't have to do both at the same time.

BTW, who among us has any experience at Civ3 scenario creation? (not me) We might want to employ some of the "professionals" to help us out with the actual scenario itself and its component parts.

I recommend we start with PWI-III, since there was a lot less change and more defined technologies/units/abilities.

Also, are we going to make this an epic game or scenario specific? If it was scenario, I would recommend Civ 2 Gold because of scripting.

If epic we have more flexibility in certain events. That is what I am assuming with the following ideas:

Great Wonder - Mount Yuri - comes with 'Spotted False Moon' - Gives you a Yurian Fanatic(stats unkown right now) every 5 turns.

PE should get access to cheaper nukes.

I would say that this should be a scenario and not a modpack, at least if we want it to be close to the story.

I would also say that we could use ToT, since it allows more units, provides an easy way to make faction-specific units, multimaps, and has the best most advanced scripting language in the Civ series. It doesn't come with in-game editors, but I know a bit about Rules.txt editing, so i could implement the units and techs, as long as somebody else provides the graphics.

I know that there aren't many who have ToT, but there's always Cedric Greene's site...

I have neither ToT nor a way to transfer the patch(es) to my other comp. They're just too big for floppies, and I do not have the patience to try it one or two files at a time.

I could do the scripting, as I'm quite familiar with it. And it isn't difficult to port something from MGE to ToT either. You just use Angelo Scotto's CivConverter, which can be downloaded in the Civ2 downloads section on this site. I have some experience with that, too.

Let's just say that I do the scripting, and the rest collect the graphics, OK?

And if we are going to use ToT, we should ask a mod to move this to the Civ2 Scenario Creation forum.

I think there is, we are just busy at the same time. Now that we have agreed its a scenario, lets start discussing time-line, events, etc.

We definitely need a map of Plutonia from one of the old PW, can someone get the original? I know there is a utility that turns bitmaps into civ maps, that may be helpful as well.
