Pounder's Completely Redone Railroads

Thanks for the feedback Pounder.

My challenge is that to simulate limited rolling stock in American Civil War era america, we are using the rail graphics for the road. (There are no roads per se in the ACWC3C scenario). But to compensate for the Union rolling stock advantage, we wanted to flag some of the high travel areas in the U.S. Northeast coast as "rail" (in the CIV sense). I can't use the same graphics twice because visually they would be identical.

That's why I was thinking about double track as a visual cue to the player that those tiles acted like CIV rails.

Hmmm, I might experiment with different rail looks, maybe using your brown and grey looks to create the visual distinction.

Cheers

I guess you would be ok using a railroads file to replace a roads file, because you would use all but the last row of tiles.

The railroads file has 16 more tiles than the roads file. There is an extra row of tiles in the railroads file. They are all tiles with rails in all eight directions, making 17 tiles that go in every direction. The roads file only has one tile with roads in every direction, so you couldn't do it the other way around.

After I wrote this I realize that you already know this as you stated that you are using the rails as roads.

Maybe on the second set of railroads, instead of double rails, just add to the file to mark them as high travel.

Maybe add some trees, telegraph poles, platforms, signs, etc....

@Misfit Travel

I know this picture doesn't show any roads or rails, but maybe you could add some telegraph poles something like these onto the railroads file. This could mark the difference you are looking for.

@Pounder

Great work, as always!
Do you know where can I find that telegraph?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe added to the irrigated tiles (like the bushes and the trees)? The telegraph line can be connected among some tiles (only diagonally from top left to bottom right or viceversa, I think..) like the roads/railroads, the problem is at the begin and at the end of the line, when the telegraph cables touch ground..

looks cool:goodjob:

Looks good!

Is there anyway that you could make the railroads actually more like a monorail? I could use it for a mod I'm working on. If not I could just do it myself. :)

I read through all the posts on here, and it looks like a very good process that is going on.
I like the american civil war idea about using two railroads. :king:

Keep up the good work. :goodjob:
