Pre-EkoNES: Fall From Heaven

See, once things are SO depraved, then you have an easily spotted (not counting Esus) enemy to fight. Soul eating abominations are depressing. Frightening, maybe. Every stereotypically "good" character (and not just pretending either, legit good guys) getting killed through betrayal of people they trusted? THAT'S depressing. Don't get me wrong, I like the series and will keep reading.

Erebus tries to be dark, and it doesn't do a bad job, but it still has some few heroic Bannor, those selfless Elohim, and the ever redeeming Sirona, so there is at least hope.

Westeros has...lies and betrayal, with those that you trust selling you for profit. No hope of redemption there.

And perhaps another award for the person who caused the problem... :D
I'd just like one for increasing the problem to ridiculous proportions.

Westeros: The author once explained he liked to write anout the fight between romanticism and reality and how romantics systematically lost. This explains a lot, and why fantasy-loving Sansa wakes up in a world that's not exactly kind to her for instance. I love Tyrion by the way.

As long as things don't get so bad that you start thinking Lovecraft is happy and you decide Cthulu worship is an accepable alternative then you should be okay, (probably)
What is Ice and Fire? It sounds interesting.

I don't get the Kuriotates one...
Can someone explain?

You would have to read the first FFH NES (MODed by thejopa)... the kuriotates got ganged up on... a little problem over orcs turned into a war with the dwarves... a little problem with the prancing ponies turned into a war with the hippus and well, the lanun were just meanies in that NES.

What is Ice and Fire? It sounds interesting.
Look up George R R Martin. It's a series of novels beginning with the Iron Throne if I'm not mistaken. Very good fantasy novels. Only race is humans, but then there are creepy Others on the other side of the Wall... There are stories of dragons too. Humans are however more than happy to plot, betray, poison and generally slaughter each other without outside interference.

PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE!

Today I had my first of five exams. That means you lot have one less exam to wait for before we can get this thing moving. :sheep:

Also, I've made a social group for this NES which all group A players will get an invite for soon.

The Group B players demand equal liberty in joining this... group!

Tough sorry, I'm keeping the group for players only. Group B players will get an invite when they join the game, and if they are only a temp they will then be removed again once they leave the game. It's a hard life.

Aww...that makes me sad.

:dubious:
:twitch:

Few thing Eko:

1) I'm not exactly familiar with the workforce mechanics, does building require certain level of appropriate workforce or they consume certain points of workforce? Is the workforce shared between buildings or not?

2) i was thinking about the self-tailored civic. i know i can be a little late with this proposal, but what about double or triple their number at least and give each a smaller benefit? I know it could be hell to keep track on, but it could provide nice way how to customize your faction. More like the National Ideas from Paradox games than Civic from Civilizations.

3) Are Lore-appropriate leaders stil an absolute no-no?

1) Buildings and Improvements consume workforces points, which are generic and no longer in seperate groups (Agriculture, Industry etc). Once they have been assigned to a certain job (building or improvement) you can move them from their improvement to one where their job would be similiar, which is represented by them being in the same group of buildings or improvements.

2) That's an interesting idea, but I like civics to be able to provide new buildings and units, something which I think I would need to prohibit if there were so many for management control.

3) In general I'm going to say ''yes''. I would vastly prefer players to create their own leader instead of using a FFH one.

1) So, in short, i have to buy new workforce for each new building, right?

2) And what about keeping Civic and cultural ideas separate? Let's have a civic that have strong effects, allows UB and UU and are under direct control of player, unless the case of successful great rebellion or some other civil war. And let have Cultural ideas with moderate to small bonuses, being more common (their number probably depending on your culture technology, but other should provide "slots" too) and althrough it's player that chooses them at first they should more represent their nation....the could change depending on the action of the player, they could migrate away with discontent minority and sprung down in other nation, or just move along busy traderotes in and from open societies or be adapted from cultural superior nation by people trying to emulate them....just a thought.

3) And can the FFh characters appear in story from time to time?

I like Algeroth's propotions in the last two points. I think including the FFH heroes/world units in some of the stories would be a nice twist, and I really like the unique culture thing. I understand if you wouldn'y want to implement the former, but please include the latter :)

That's an interesting idea, a kind of mini-civic system that represents the populace and they're beliefs, structure and so on. And it wouldn't be all that hard to manage actually. I'm just tryinng too decide whether they'd make more sense to have on a national scale, in which case they'd be a bit like civics, or on a city scale, in which case they'd be similiar to buildings in mechanism.

About workforces, pretty much, although some buildings don't require them, many do. Some even need more then one.

I think conventional FFH Lore characters can be integrated somehow and can't see why they shouldn't appear in stories. I think Eko agrees with my own civic-related-character thingy for instance. I'd like to know if we can use/summon some heroes from time to time. I know Loki just sucks lorewise, but the Bannor hero in hell could definitely be used in backstory even if he never comes out of hell for instance, or we could do some projects to get Bambur, Saverous or Duin Halfmorn to lead our armies or fight among them? I mean I'd like to use existing FfH characters to spice up the stories, not as main characters, but as recognisable figures that we can use in the background, or use for a brief time (like one story).

Ah yes, some FFH characters, such as the one we have discussed LDi, will be fine. However I really would prefer that players check with me in advance. Your case is an exception, because the Balseraphs are nothing without Perpentach in my opinion, and iirc he isn't exactly acting as a leader, more an influential figure-head. I know this sounds slightly contradictary, but that's the way things will be, I think that to create an interesting world that is different to standard FFH most characters will have to be new. See this as a chance to customise the background of your faction to suit yourself rather than a restriction.

On heroes, definitely not. Hero type units may be available (like the special units in FFHNES), but these will have to be a group of people for balance reasons, and will have to be customary. You may base your ideas on existing lore for your civ, but the idea of the game is to slightly divert from standard interpretations of FFH. I think this will make for a much more interesting game then if everyone just did everything by the book, having the same buildings, units, heroes and leaders as they would in the standard game.

EkoNES is not intended to be a paper version of the computer game, it is intended to be something new and different.

From our shared experiences in FFH NES and FFH NES II i think i can safely say that by the time people get the tech to build interesting heroes like those in FFH digital, the lore in the NES will already have diverged signicantly from that found in the digital game and you may have some ideas for your own special unit/hero that are far superior (and fit better) to the situation you find yourself in.

Of course, some units (ie: fire-breathing golems) will always be awesome.

What about fire-ball throwing bunnies?
