Preview and Development thread; XNESII- the middle ages- with a twist ;)

is he is persia, persia and rome were always enemies...

besiides you should never bring one nes stuff to another espaicaly as a mod, or be ready to feel the councicness ( :p don't know to spell it at all)

well, knowing you Xen, i suspect something bad will greet france on the first update.... And the Goths are civilized btw.

@Erez- A)thats a rather huge over generalization of the relationship between Rome, and parthia, the nation that should be there; but even when the sassanian persians arrived ont he scene, the realtion ship was not muchg different- that realtionship you asked? Wars fought almost more for ceremony and show more then the actual want for territorial expansion, almos tliek two brothers arguing over whos tougher; sure once in while thed take, or try to take some land, but more often then not, one army woul invade, they fight, and th eloser had to pay money, that beign about the extent; sur eit sounds nice, and it wasnt, when at war they downright hated eachother, and when at peace were always suspicious; but both naitons were economy minded, and both knew that, until circumstances drastically changed, it was benificial to stay at relitive peace for trade purposes.

B)the incident is actually the deciding factor in whether or not I shoudl start the game "fair" with all feifs being at 55% loyalty, or have a more historical reflection, with varying, and for the germans and french at least, not all that loyal, feifs. it just happesn that history lends to me a fair, andf true punishment to inflict upon them for treacherouslly attackign my forces. next time it happens, then i'll have to get creative.... ;)
@Alex-

A)the goths dont exist anymore by this time
B)the territory your likelyl reffering to, that around the black sea, belong to the Pechneg tribes who were alogn the same line fo tribes that were the pre-Attlis Huns, and eventually the Mongolian tribes 9I say pre Atilla, as once he steeped upm, his army ceased being hunning; it was a germanic army with the benifit of Hunnic horse archers- similer to hwo the mongol army woudl eventually work, with rather few actual mongols being int he army at all, but it mostlyl beign made up of conqored peoples forced into military service)

Good news abounds!

A)the stats are well under way Romes done, Germany still needs a distribution fo forces, as do the Bohemians, and Burgundians; once I decide on the UUs for the Bohemians and Burgundians (any suggestions are welcomed, I assure you!) I iwll post the stats for Bohemia, and Burgundy, two good examples fo what to expect in the NES stat wise

B)I've had oppertunity to think over a lot of stuff abotu the NES< and there are a few things that need ot be gone over;

Wonders
wonders act as they do in most NES's, giving the player an advantage, or bonus of some kind once completed; the main difference between most other NES;s wonder system, and this one is that 1)I penalize for stupid names; the stupider the name, the longer the time/more expensive it will be to complete 2)it costs one econ to begin the project, then, depending on what it dose, it will have a number of turns added to it; the real big difference is that it costs one econ for every turn you work on your wonder, and three econ if you wish to rush a turn on it.

handy wonder tip if you cant think of a building or monument to attribute a military bonue to, i suggest styleing it after one of those semi-holy knightlly orders of the middle ages- dont copy the name though; the only naiton i could see havig a real claim to copy the name woudl be germany and its Tutonic (tuetonic?) knights...

And no one make Templer Knights they were ******* and ran away from a battle leaving the regular infantry crusider to his death.

What the crap are you talking about Julius...The Knights Templar ran into battle,and packed fudge on the spot..They didn't even take names after they kicked ass,because they didn't have time to...Because they were constantly kicking ass.I'm not a christian,but I have alot of respect for the Knights Templar,after reading as much as I did on the crusades.

the knight templar's were sought after all over europe because of their experience and knowledge of military matters

Until they were stripped of their lands and estates and hunted throughout europe...

Let's not drift away from the point...They still kicked ass.

yeah, after they final lost of the holy lands they moved to france where the king of france saw they had boo-coo $$.

I have to agree with trhe general consensus; the knights templar, and the Knights hospitaller are the exclusive holy orders that I have any respect for; the tuetonic knights, while they have th ename justifaction (well technically so do the templars and hospitallers if the back story is written right) were unethical butchers of innocents; the Hospitallers may have killed; mabey they even sank tot he level of the average crusader and commited genocide (I have no evidence for or agiasnt, just sayinf if they had), they still saved lives by runnign hospitals all over thier turf; the templars, well, shrouds of controversy that they may have been a psuedo-Mithraic cult aside 9not surprising when you cosnider chrsitianty; particuraley the catholic and protestint breeds are carbon copies except they inserted jesus)- even the pope leading the religion from Rome is a Mithraic concept... anyway, off track), they were still a conduit for miulitary knowledge to get rechanneld into european warfare; and for all the wests faults, we dotn see the conecpts of personal freedoms, democracy, or republic in arabic of chinese, or african cultures...

and they had a kick-ass name ;)

that said; start tomorrow, I've been swimming sice about 15 minuets after I posted the good news, well underway ont he work thing... suppose I spoke too soon really. my bad.

The only think I know about them is in a battle all the templer knights ran away though a secret tunnel while the rest of the crusaders were left to defend themselves.
I am a fan of the common man solider so I automatically have a hatred for “skilled” warriors running away to save their own Asses while everyone else has to fight for their lives. I know its not right to judge all templers on the actions of a few of them, but look at all the publicity I have gotten over it!

this is a good linl for info on the tmeplars; it dosent have much info abotu specific battles, and I'll be this first to admit that it (appers) to be on a "new ageish" site, and as such, one shodl be skeptical, at most; but th einformaitons is well put fourth, and seems to be accurate, so i will put it fourth as a good source for nt just the basics of the templars, and how they were estbalished, but thier down fall, accusations of herasy, and the apperntlly mixed truths and falsetudes of it (eg; apperntlly, they did preach in the total non-divinity of chirsit to thier members, but had a belife in one god; that apperntlyl is true, the accusatiosn of deamon worshipm accorded by only three men, and even then the "idol" of worship not having the same description, is probabley not)

spent a good deal of my day doing assorted other things then working on the NES; though when I have, the complete lack of descirtions for troops fo the times for many natiosn is rather discouraging; Burgundy I've decided will get a crossbowman, perhaps one with a pavis, givng soem sort of defence bonus, Bohemia i still ahve a clue for, every thime pawpaw lends me a lead, i cant fand any info to see how they shoudl be implemnted int he NES
