Preview: INES II: Gone is the Old Guard

I shall reserve the Theocratic State of Deseret.

Venezuela please.

The official answer is that Deseret was expanding in all directions during the Canadian and US anarchy in the 1990s, and its leaders thought that talking one more big city, even if it was across the old border, could only help bring peace.

The simpler answer is that I thought the diagonal border between Desert and Alaska looked cool. :D

South African Republic please.

Frontmatter updated. The Indonesian Empire, the People's Republic of Europe, and the Tunisian Arab Jamahiriya are good open choices for those of you who haven't joined yet.

I call dibs on using Putin as my leader.

Actually, he was part of the reason why the Far Eastern Republic started out an Authoritarian Presidency. Still, General Putin, First Among Equals, has a better ring to it.

On that note, I'm expecting that if you name the leaders of your nations, they'll be somewhat a mix between historical personalities and made up people. The timeline didn't get really messed up until the 1990s.

I am tentatively claiming the Confederate States, if that is acceptable.

Noted. Either post if you want to drop, or you'll be dropped automatically if you don't send orders for the first update.

How intact is the infrastructure in the Confederate states? I'm sure it'd just about be wrecked in Cuba, but are the buildings and roads in the southeast still pretty intact? If not, it's all good. If so, sweetness.

Your parts of Arkansas, Tennesee, Virginia, and North Carolina were the scene of some brief fighting during the partition, but everything on the mainland is essentially ok. The Western US was hit harder by the collapse than the East. Haiti's just as wrecked as Cuba, though.

How organized is the government? Do I need to decide a capitol? If I do, I'll have to do research first.

You have a capital. It's the little white circled city on your part of the map, aka Miami. Ex-exile Cuban influence on the government is strong. The 'real' Americans probably want somewhere more properly Southern, like Charleston. The government is probably in an official state of emergency, but the mainland is under control for the time being. It's the islands you have to worry about. There are plenty of communists left in Cuba who want some form of the old regime back, and the ex-exiles will get angry if you even think about abandoning their homeland.

For the average visitor to the State of Deseret:

Capital: Salt Lake City
Leader: President Gordon B. Hinkley (LDS Leader in 2000)
Major Cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Denver, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio.

Can you tell me about the conditions of FER's territory? We fought a war against China recently, I guess we won?

Also I notice by renaming it to the Far Eastern-Asian Republic I get the acronym FEAR. I like this.

As a conquering power, your Soviet homelands are in good shape. You repulsed a couple of lame attacks from Moscow, took advantage of a power vaccum in North Korea to march in, smashed the other Korea after US DMZ troops fled back to secure their jigsawed homeland, and took advantage of a full-fledged pro-democracy rebellion in China to force the PRC south. Your Chinese territories are all but bombed out of existence, especially Beijing, but the Koreas surrendered quickly enough to form part of your industrial base, though their people have found common cause in being not too thrilled with the arrangement.

You don't need the new name: Far EAstern Republic = FEAR. I'll switch if you want, though I'm using the acronym you made either way.

As long as I get to be called FEAR I'm happy. What's the condition of Manchuria? Also what do the Mongolians, and Uighars and Japanese consider of my rule?

Elian Gonzalez will be my president. ELIAN!!!

He'll be seven at the start of the NES, you know.

What's the condition of Manchuria? Also what do the Mongolians, and Uighars and Japanese consider of my rule?

Manchuria's not as bombed as the rest of what you conquered from China, but the urban areas are still bad. The Mongolians and Uighars love you, and the Japanese on Hokkaido are quiet because at least you're not the PRC.
