Preview of the new patch

Kazan or Bulgar as an independent city, representing the Tartars or Volga Bulgarians! I know the Russians settled East of Ural but they conquered some Tartar cities West of it. Ok, you can argue, then the Mongols should settle there. That might be true for Kazan, but not for Bulgar.

"By 1571, a string of outposts connected Lisbon to Nagasaki: the empire had become truly global, and in the process brought great wealth to Portugal."

Outpost weren't colonies in most cases. Like the name itself suggests, they were trading outposts established at the site of indigenous settlements, without which these outposts wouldn't survive. Even Genoa had outposts in the Levant, but this doesn't mean it founded colonies there.

The patch is materially complete; I'm now exporting the changes to Warlords and vanilla and need more days to do the final tests.

In the meantime, I need one volunteer to make sure everything's fine with BTS, especially with new graphics, the new timeline, the new goal deadlines.
If you have some time to dedicate, then apply! I'll pick the one who answers first, or the one that provides a more convincing reason to be chosen ;)

I can't claim to have time to test it to the depth you probably require, but I'd gladly look over it for you :)

I'll do it, just to see how hard the new Japanese criteria are and see how Rhye is defeating my deviousness. :lol:I'm going to be done with my German emperor conquest game sometime tomorrow so I can start next week.

Here's a view of Japan proper (yes, we've taken over America who's our vassal, besides Vikings, Turkey, Inca, and Maya), showing some of the new features of the next patch. You'll notice that the 2/3 UHV for Japan now includes being top score in 1930, and the 3rd criteria is like Germany's: first to complete tech tree. The dynamic scoreboard name shows up when you mouse over it. The sea also looks a little different. And Chicago finally has rivers, woohoo!:goodjob:

Looks nice, I'll have to squeeze in some time with the new release in between Fallout 3

Drat, I hate long modern period UHVs :-(

I've got a German game going, the only time I've tried as the Germans due to the anticipated time requirements, that I've been playin on and off for a month now. I'm only up to 1946 and Genetics.

Still at least the IBTs will be a lot faster with the new patch, so that will make the modern era less interminable.

Cheers, Luke

Build Danzig instead, it's a better choice and has no overlap with Frankfurt when it flips to you from the independents.

Yes, with the extra food and commerce from the sea, plus river bonuses as well, it's clearly a better site.

In any case, Berlin isn't on a major river, it should be dry.

Nor is Chicago.

Although the site 1 NW of the "standard" Chicago site, between the Corn, (which also happens to be called Chicago), is a superior location anyway. And was on a river before the map change.

I'm interested in the complete list of changes, too.

By the way, those that have it beta-tested the new patch, does America now start with Democracy?

No democracy to start, but nobody else can build the Statue of Liberty either. (Just like nobody else can research theology until Ethiopia spawns if you're playing it).

Is the SoL now continent-bound (Americas)?

Indeed, Chicago is on a triple point watershed; water runs away from the place in 3 directions, not to it.

However, the change will at least probably encourage people to build the place in its proper location.
