Problem D/l Patch 174

Hi guys, Im new to these forums (not the game) but I had recently reinstalled Civ 4 back on my computer(2 disk set). I thought id try out the internet games option where u play other people so i created an account and downloaded patch 174. After downloading it told me to re log in, so i did that and it asks me to download patch 174 AGAIN before proceeding! If i cancel the download i get sent back to the login screen Can someone help me plz! Im running windows vista!

what operating system is this? what civ4 version (download vs. cd)? was there any error during the patching? what does the about this build screen say?

Windows Vista.

Regular CD version (no expansion)

No error during patching. Other than asking me to download the same patch over and over

ok so it is not patched. Did you try downloading 1.61 first and then 1.74?

Can you give me a link to a 1.61 download? I found one but it wasnt working.

mmkay, I didn't have this patch, tried to play multi-player, and it told me I needed this patch. I downloaded the patch, (from the prompt) and waited while it installed, now that this 1.74 version is on my computer, I can't play it. At all.

Trying to open Civ IV gives me an error message saying that D3DX9_32.DLL is missing.

Help?

Hi, I downloaded three times DirectX with the link you provided, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en , at which point when I try to install it again it says "an equivalent or more recent version is already installed".

I dowloaded and installed 4 times the patch 174. It obviously is installed, for when I try to download patch 161, it says " you already installed a more recent version : 1.74.00 and need to uninstall it before installing 1.61 "

I own a regular CIVILIZATION IV cd (European if it matters, but I don't think so), and when I try to go on the internet page, after logging in, still I have : "Patch required. You ought to install the new version of the game before proceeding. Name of the patch : patch_174" or so.


I also checked every thread I could find on CFC and on internet, both in French and in English, and still I can't seem to make the installation of patch 174 acknowledged - which is quite frustrating. If anyone would be so kind as to suggest me what to do now, I would be most grateful .

this game is not patched at all - I'd first try to install 1.74 with admin rights, i.e. right click on it and then choose run as admin.
if that fails remove the game and reinstall it (with admin rights - right click on the setup.exe on the disc and choose run as admin) - then install 1.61 (with admin rights) then 1.74 (with admin rights)

Hey, im having a similar problem to sebastians, only mines patch 1.09 that im trying to reinstall. Only Patch 1.74 is already installed, and for whatever reason i cant uninstall civilization.
(operating system=vista)
Also, i have been running everything as administrator, whenever possible

When i tried to uninstall, an error message came up. here are the details.
