Problem with WOTM/GOTM save

Hey whoever runs the GOTM stuff please let me know why the save is not working for me, I get this message then the game closes:

The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed.

I loaded your mod and everything should be fine, the mod itself works. This shouldn't be that complicated. Also, why is there is no GOTM tech support page, and if there is, how come I can't find it? In fact the whole GOTM page is very disorganized, you can't find anything.. it took me forever just to find the links on the right side for the actual games... the most obvious things people want to see and read are buried in that whole section

thanks

basically, if anything in your xml files has been changed, you'll get that message.

The main culprit seems to be CivScale, which ships with BlueMarble.

If you've ever changed any of the xml files, you need to replace them with the original file...I believe any mods in the customAssets folder also can cause that message.

As thrallia says, this is most likely because your assets have been changed. Have you installed (and are you using) civscale?

Sometimes saves get corrupted which can also cause this - but it is less likely (is this the starting save you are having problems with?)

no I haven't done a thing to the XML files. I have changed settings in the .ini file but everyone does that. it's the starting save, I can't even open it. but I can load the mod on its own and it seems to work if I start my own game (although I think it gives some warning that the game is not valid for HOF)

"I believe any mods in the customAssets folder also can cause that message."

are you saying if I have any other mod loaded, it won't work? not sure I understand what you're saying, but if that's the case, that means I would have to delete or move all my mods to play the GOTM? I can't believe that is what people have been doing.

No - mods are fine - if they are in the "mods" folder, and haven't been used to over-write any files in the "assets" folder - or even been put in the assets folder.

Worst case, if you can't work out whats changed (do you use civscale with blue marble??), then uninstall, clean out the install folders for any left-over files, and reinstall (along with the patch). I presume you are patched up-to-date?

I am getting this error message:

Microsoft VisualC++

Program...CIV4Warlords.exe

The program has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.

Any ideas. Here are some things that may help with the diagnosis.
I had memory problems and had to delete a bunch of files and programs including CIV and Warlords. I reinstalled both, the Mod 2.08.004, and the GOTM8. I get the same message when starting from the like and trying to run the file from the menu. I can start a game from scratch.

Thanks.

Sounds like you havent patched to 1.61/2.08

Thanks G- I had not installed the 2.08 patch, I thought the 2.08.004 included 2.08. Seems everything is working fine.

My first attempt at a GOTM and I have 2 questions...please note I am not very computer savvy!
1. Where to download the saved game file to? As in what path? I tried to put it in the saves/auto folder, but when I tried to start the game, it was not there!

2. Where do I put the HOF mod that is required for GOTM? I tried putting it in the warlords/mods folder then choosing 'load a mod' from the advanced menu in the game, but that mod does not seem to be there!

Help is appreciated!

Assuming you installed warlords with the default settings, then the save games best goes into:

\My Documents\My Games\Warlords\Saves\single

Tho it does not really matter. You can call the save game from anywhere you want, so just as long as you know where you put it, you are fine.

For the HOF mod, put the file you download into:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods

And then run it (double click). It sill create its own folder from there.

To start the game, the easiest is to then simply go to the save game and double click on it. The file contains the information about which mod it needs, so your computer will automatically launch warloads AND load the correct mods.

Hope that helps...

Or perhaps try this alternative way to handle the downloads: download starting saves and HOF installers to the desktop.

Start a new XOTM from the desktop with a double click, and the saves of that game after that just go in the default path that Civ uses.

Start a new HOF installer by double clicking that. The installer knows where to put the HOF files.

Then, make a desktop folder for HOF mod installers, GOTM start files, etc. and put the desktop files into those folders, so the desktop doesn't get overly cluttered.

Thanks a lot Jastrow, da Vinci... I did as instructed and am well on my way to having the AI lift my lil skirt up and give me a good rogering in WOTM 9!!!! Problem was that I just put the .exe file in the mods folder but had never executed it and really installed the mod! Good info about clicking on the saved game to get the correct mod loaded from the get-go, that works great!

So, if I understand correctly if I have any mods or scenarios that put anything in the custom assets folder I have to find those and delete them and then I cannot play them if I want to play GOTM? As, I am also getting the message about protected save file.

No - you can have anything in the custom assets - just not anything that changes the main assets folders.

Is this GOTM 20? If so, when did you download the starting save? If you got it within 2 hours of me posting it, then it was a buggy version. Go get it again.

Still doesn't work and I cannot reinstall civ files as I am not admin on this comp. So, anyone know where to get an original assets folder without having to reinstall?

Your options are (1) undo any changes that have been made to the Assets folder or (2) reinstall Civ4. There's no way to get a copy of the assets as far as I know.

I haven't made any direct changes but I think that maybe someone had a scenario that changed something. I can't reinstall due to no admin privileges on this comp. I looked through and looks as if the only file in the entire assets that has been modified on a different date than the rest of the files there is the core.dll file in main assets directory. there is certainly not a program on this comp that could edit that file so it must have been a scenario I downloaded. Anyway to get the original dll file from anyone on here it looks like it is a smaller sized file?

Scenario dlls should never be put into the main Assets folder - in fact the main Assets folder should never be touched. Mods and scenarios should be put in the Mods folder or in CustomAssets.

Sorry, I don't know where you can get the original CvGameCoreDLL.dll file. I'm not sure whether it can be passed around legally, but I don't have it as I only have the Mac version.
