Proposal: More Mods or Mod Rule Changes

we have a european mod, maybe 2. The one i'm talking about is Matrix..

If I need any help, I'll let you know.

As of now, I do not, but thanks for all the suggestions.

I did miss the whole gay porn thing.
But still: giving any mod 'full rights' or at least the possibility to delete posts isn't a bad idea imo. What's against it?
This was just about a link, but next time the whole cfc might be full with bad jpg's.

Another point: what if mod's go on a vacation? or get sick?

Well, if you know there's porn in a thread you can try to remember that and don't open that thread again. Problem solved.
What's the big deal about a thread being there for a few hours, just don't post in it and it will be dead and buried pretty soon. Especially in OT.

Not wise, as that would give me ban power.
I propose a European mod as long as it's not me, too.
As this topic is more or less closed anyway I'd like to take this opportunity to ask you, a proud speaker of "the Queen's English", why it "a European" and not "an European". I admit that it sounds right, but generally I'm tempted to use "an".
So did you simply make a mistake or is there more to it?

And Sun Tzu, we were talking about the OT. Last time I checked New York and Texas were not in Europe. :p ;)

Just to carry Hitro's threadjack a little further, the basic rule is that we use "an" before words that start with a vowel sound. "European" starts with a vowel, but in English pronunciation, the starting sound is a consonantal "y", just like in the word "your" or "year". Just like we say "a year", we say "a European".

In a similar, but opposite, manner, "honor" starts with a consonant, but the "h"" is silent, so we say "an honor".

A mod out near Asia or what not? Good idea, how bout Knight-Dragon? :)
So long as it's only as a back-up and so long as I don't actually need to do any work :p, I will gladly help out. :) We shld take precautions against such idiotic and disgusting behaviour. But like AoA said, it's unnecessary.

Anyway, I think the response's been good in this case. The links were deleted, in like, 15 mins?

Not attaching pictures is probably a bad idea and would kill most of the people watching PBEM games such as the Dual Alliance II (which should be good) and other games that must have pictures, or they would be boring as hell.
How very true. Reminds me I shld take more pix, though there isn't much to show... Lately, not much power sessions as I'm sick of CivIII/PTW for the moment. :)

We need mod 'shifts!' so the boards are secure all the time!
Morning Mods and Evening Mods, so Lefty and AoA can take a break!

I am sure a system could be implemented!

With all the traffics in CFC, vigilance against loonies like toeperson is paramount!

CFC needs a British Mod.

I would be happy to oblige, but I have a full-time Admin role on CDG...

Sultan and Darkshade would make superb Mods in my view.

I don't share that view, Sultan has problems controlling his anger, and Simon is too cross with posters.

But let me repeat, I don't need another moderator in OT, such talk only ANNOYS me.

I'm not sure more mods is the answer. Whenever I log on, no matter the hour, I almost always see at least one other mod. If I had been here yesterday, I couldn't have done any more than Chieftess did - ban the poster, and clean up in Civ3. But as was pointed out earlier, everything was cleaned up in minutes.

The best thing a normal poster can do is hit the "Report post to moderator" button. We'll come running! ;) You can also directly PM a mod if you see something, but the "Report Post" function is sent to all mods for that forum.

FWIW, TF has instituted some behind-the-scenes changes that will help catch Toecutter if he tries this again.

@Hitro: You're welcome! :D

Giving all moderators super-mod status to deal with emergencies seems like a good idea. It can be done easily and potential for abuse is limited. I will seriously consider the idea.

The problem is that the mod from another forum can't mod the POSTS in another forum, under the current system. I ran into the chat room and got Chieftess last night, but she couldn't delete the links, just ban the poster.

I don't think people should defend the current system - the only reason the links took 15 minutes to delete was because we got lucky and Lefty came on around 10pm. What if Lefty went to bed? Those would have stayed on all night...

:goodjob: Good to see you're seriously considering it TF. :)

That's not the point IMO AoA. The modding is fine as it is.

It's just that it is very easy for any idiot ot mess up this brilliant forum, while most of the mods are asleep or at work, since most of them live in the same time zone. Giving all mods a 'delete post' option for any forum solves the problem I think.

Maybe it is an option to put posts in quarantaine?

 Well you're right, with my occasional ranting and "blood vessel bursting" flaming I don't fit the profile of a good mod. I know I'd be itching to ban certain posters at the drop of a hat. Well, I'm in anger management now, and I've quit drinking altogether, so we'll so how it goes, maybe some day I can aspire to the level headedness of the fantastic staff of CFC.

Alcibiaties, I am in no way detracting from the grand job you and Lefty do.

You guys get my 100% approval. :)

I have a different role in mind for Simon.

Sorry this is OT, but on the a/an topic, why do people say "an hereditary..."?? it isn't verbally or grammatically correct (at least as far as I know) yet it is still written and spoken, I find it frustrating. Maybe I should have opened a new thread?

On Topic: AOA are you really ok or just don't like to admit when you can't handle it? Sorry if that sounds like a flame, it isn't meant to be, but that's just how I see this situation. I like both ideas, 1 and 2, of cg's.
