Proposal to Firaxis

I doubt they would accept it if it involved money

However, they would probably include free, completed versions

If they agree, they would have to be finished soon

If players think what we have prepared has value then Firaxis will consider it. Would you pay for what would be included on the CD (refer to first post)? Do you think it has value? It isnt often in business you can have an arrangement that benifits everyone but this is one of those rare times - where everyone stands to gain.

I didn't post this to share with everyone - I would of rather waiting until finalized before posting. I reason posted it was in order to seek support amongst the community and see who out there is interested in contributing to this venture.

So once again - if you have something that you want to offer then please send me an email, detaling how you can contribute.

I think maybe the thread should have been in c&c, afterall thats where all the creators are.

I think that having the best MODs get professionally-designed units, terrain, leaderheads, etc, will be a great thing. If the pack is included in the next CIV3 expansion, the MODs won't be "free" anymore (at least not the ones that have Firaxis' -or better- quality), but they will come with the expansion which most of the real geeks (like all of us here) will buy anyway.

Also, most MODs will still be available in their original form for free off the net.

Then, it would be a landmark in game development, because this would be the first time that the mod-community substantially contributes to the finished product. People who actually have the time to listen to players suggestions shape the product!

I don't think beta testers would have to test it, if it works for us 30+ modders, then it's bound to work for others.

I will be editing the terrain once again, but I will be planning to go a lot further than I did before.

Yep, I'm on board. It's great to see a large experienced and talented group pull together to make a great set of mods for Civilization 3. I think it's a great idea and I hope Firaxis opens the door for all of us.

A couple of ideas if Firaxis lets this happen:

1) If there are going to be more than the allowed leaderheads, we should have one mod with a configureation program, which would let you add or remove leaderheads, graphics mods, interface mods, units & their resources, terrain, buildings, etc.
If certain features go together e.g. a resource goes with a certain unit and building, then those two would be tied together, so if one is added, the other is too. This would make it very professional. Along the same lines as the Mods menu and UMOD installer in Unreal Tournament.

2) Dont take on too much work. Write a small list of major features you really want. Finish all those, then move on to all the good ideas and small features that are suggested. If you start work on the small things first, the major features will be lacking, and the major features are what sells. That is the mistake that Firaxis made, at least I think. They didn't finish the MP part of PTW before they started adding units/countries etc.

Good luck! I hope it works. I would love to help, but sadly I lack the skill to do anything worthwhile. If you need any laborious and repetetive work done, e.g. adding 200 civilopaedia entries, I could help with that.

I had this on our hit list actually - glad to see someone else was thinking along the same lines!
BTW, you should still email me with whatever you can do ;)

I really want to do that, join up.

You are right. It would not be as complicated as a real game because here we would not need to deal with complicated AI and that is what the testers test anyway. And also for some bugs.:)

EDIT: Snoopy, I thought you were moving somewhere else?

Probably just roomers, but I thought you were going to work on other things somewhere else. I heard that on the Snoopy terrain forum a long time ago.

I am glad Snoopy is aboard - he has puth forth some fantastic work for Civ3 making the game easier on the eyes for many of us. He tells me for this project he will create terrain that is twice as good as anything he has done before.

Snoopy, glad to see you on board. I enjoy your terrain sets, all of them.
