PumaSNES1: For Real This Time

A man wiped the sweat from his brow. He had been working hard all day. It was necessary in order to help his land. This was expected of all peasants in the Japanese empire. They had to work to help the nation when the nation had hit hard times. Hopefully they would help the nation’s economy rebound. If this didn’t work it was uncertain what would. The nation had just spent a lot of money to bring in trade from Yaomoto. This would help the economy over time as well. These were all good things in the mind of the peasant. It brought him joy, for the peasants of Japan worked to keep the Emperor of Japan powerful and wealthy, if he was they were. His fortune was their fortune. This motivated the people of Japan to work very hard constantly. They would always strive to give the best possible.

The court of the Japanese Emperor was as always beautiful. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The world was beautiful splotches of pinks and browns. It was a grandiose place many centuries old and still very beautiful. It was untouched by enemy hands and no diplomat from any nation had entered here before. It was here that the great Japanese empire’s actions were planned, and it was here that the far Eastern World would see its newest alliance planned.

In the great garden of the Emperor his scribe wrote as he dictated:

“To Yaomoto:

Our homelands are both on the Japanese archipelago. We also now have worked together in the past in coordinating our military efforts. I say that there is no reason we should remain potential enemies any longer. We shall become allied! It is our destiny! Do you agree?”

This message was sent to the capital of Yaomoto. It was a declaration that would soon bring the world its newest and possibly greatest alliance.

In the Japanese capital a great deal of work was being done on the newest ship works of Japan. It would build the newest of ships and a great deal of them. They would cause Japan to once again be a grand sea power. This would take time but it was certain to happen. Now Japan was rebuilding, but it would be rebuilt faster than would normally be expected, for Japan was resistance.

The Zulu expansion north is halted by the discovery of many new tribes and peoples. All welcome these powerful people from the south with skepticism and awe as the Zulu cultural achievements are well known throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Sinhala expands it’s trading empire to Africa, consolidating the accidental gains they made there and contacting inland tribes. On the island of Socotra the military garrison gets a total reworking making it one of the most fortified cities in the world, following Geystral’s capital. Trade continues to explode in the area, made possible by Sinhala’s merchant fleet, by far the largest in the world. This allows nearly all the economies of West Africa to enjoy unprecedented expansion along with continued growth in Sinhala proper.

The Cossacks continue their war against the Bulgers who flee eastward directly into the lands of the Khazars who in turn run south into Turkish held territories. This mass migration of Barbarian tribes destabilizes the steppes and for the first time every tribe is on the move in some direction. It is during this time that many find out about the wealth that surrounds them in the South: India, to the East: China, and in the West: Europe.

Spain sends it’s armies to Burgundy to try to quell the growing religious movement there. The movement becomes more and more violent as the Burgundians see the combined Frankish and Spanish armies as mortal enemies of their new religion. Throughout the Spanish army a massive feeling of anti-Christianity has spread as they feel it is Spain’s destiny to stop out these “Christian rebels” and carry the torch of Christian opposition. The Frankish armies begin to march against the Burgundians and slaughter all in the area. All of Spain rejoices at this killing of Christians, save one region. The Visigoths, already fearing for their religion see the wave of Anti-Christian attitudes that have spread through Spain as a threat to their freedom. Many begin to flee to Rome but the other more die hard individuals begin to prepare for civil war…

A new leader ascends the throne in Axum. Many hope that the new leader is up to the tasks of the future. The threat from the Arabians across the sea and the expansion of Ethiopia in the south are all causes for concern for the crown.

The Arabs finally unite their country and take their Jihad to the rest of the mideast. Following the resistance of Jewish tribes to Islamic Arab rule the Arabs launch an attack of Judea and despite fierce fighting and bitter resistance the Arabs succeed in taking the nation in short order. However all resistance is not quelled and pockets of rebels remain. Not stopping in their Crusade the Arabs take their offensive to the Sasanian Empire. Against the disunities of that Empire the Arabians advance rapidly as many of the local leaders in the Sasanian Empire defect to join the cause of Islam.

The Huns totally outflank combined Greco-Roman armies and march directly to Constantinople. With most of the Greek army north the weak walls that guard the city are no match for new Hun siege weapons. They take the city and slaughter many of the inhabitants but the Hun commander calls a halt to it before a total massacre ensures. The Bishop of Constantinople, the preeminent Christian leader behind the Pope in Asur (Assyria), sees the writing on the wall and flees to Rome where he reestablishes his Church. Roman armies continue to fight but they are demoralized by the capture of their allies capital. In Central Europe the Huns are able to totally capture all of Germany with the help of the Burgundian rebels in Bavaria. The Huns have promised them a nation in exchange for help in falling the German Kingdom, and that they did.

The Franks, also taking advantage of the Hun threat, attack their longtime friends in the Netherlands. The new king of the Franks, Clovis argues that the Netherlands are dominated by heathens and need to be delivered from evil and brought into civilization, weather they like it or not. England views this action with suspicion but are unwilling to engage a fellow Christian nation in war over pagans.

Ethiopia finishes it’s war with Oromo with relatively few losses. The Ethiopians natural ability to war in mountains aided them in the dry deserts of East Africa. Their location now gives them a good local for East Indian trade.

China and Tibet end their war as it produced little gain for either side and many casualties in the rugged desert.

Peace is finally achieved in America. However it is yet to be seen how the Canadians and Honduras will cooperate following their victory.

In Southeast Asia navies have returned to ports and soldiers have begun to dig in and take respite as no major action has been taken by either side. Each side is gracious for the break in hostilities and the leaders of Geystral, Vietnam and the Pacific alliance are rumored to be in peace talks. The former Alliance O’ Fudge Package is no more, but the hostilities that raged between their subjects has subsided, for the moment.

The Vandals invade Corsica and Sicily. Realizing the weakness of the Sicilians, and hoping to consolidate their nation before the power of Spain descends on them, the Vandals have chosen to plunder the wealth of that island Kingdom. Most of the trade between the western and eastern Mediterranean kingdoms flowed though Sicily so it is a tempting target to the Vandals who desire all the booty they can get their hands on.

Trade
Geystral - Vietnam (2/3)
Spain - Berbers (2/3), Norway (0/3), Sweden (0/3), Finland (0/3)
Sinhala - Magdah (2/3), Satavahanihara (1/3), Arabia (1/3), Gupta (1/3)
Arabia - Sinhala (1/3)
Japan - Yamato (2/3)

The Japanese army was lined up in its entirety on the Korean Border. The solders were lined up in neat and serene rows. You would never guess that something was afoot. They each wore uniforms that were mostly red. At the head of each row was a man wearing a great red plume. Many of these rows, often about 4 of them, were grouped under the command of a man wearing Blue armor and having a blue plume. The commanders had no set armor color, but they all had golden plume. Acting as the grand guards of the Commanders were some specially trained warriors, known as Samurai. They wore their commander’s colors and carried specially forged blades, heated to extremely high temperature so that they could be made of a special iron stronger and more malleable than any other. (Plume=I don’t know what else to call the hat decorations they had, think Samurai).

It was time to teach the resistant Koreans a lesson that they wouldn’t forget. The countryside would be turned bloody with the cold hard swords of Japan. They would feel the burning fury of the Japanese empire!!!!!!(yes, its been a while since iv conquered any NPCS ;)) They had been disagreeing with the Japanese for a very long time, and it hadn’t been forgotten. The new leader of Mongolia had agreed that it would be fine for Japan to show their anger to Korea. It would be a blood bath.
One of these solders was talking with his neighbors. The Japanese were of nearly equal numbers as the Koreans, and they were much better trained. The Japanese troops were sure to win in Korea.
The capital city of Japan, Tokyo, was bustling as usual. The streets were full of people selling goods and buying goods. The streets smelled of a mix of exotic spices and animal dung. Pigs ran around some of the streets as their owners chased after them. Every once in a while there is a rare horse that cruises by. It was a typical day, except for the important officials marching through the market.
Their boots clicked loudly on the stone road as they walked. The peasants moved as far out of the way as possible. They were holding a scroll of paper in each of their hands. Undoubtedly heading for a grand meeting with the emperor. They passed through the market into the noble section of town. Here all of the diplomats and rich folk of the city lived. Most everyone here was incredibly well off, one of the richest of the people in the whole empire. They passed old mansions, surrounded by beautiful rock gardens. These homes were a testimate to the long standing nature of Japan.
They approached the huge emperor’s palace. It was again surrounded by beautiful gardens. Reputed to be the most beautiful in the world. It had a huge building that was incredible to look at. The center was a great circular home for the Emperor. Surrounding that was a grand Garden, with 15 artificial waterfalls. After that were various buildings serving different governmental functions. One of these was the Japanese royal military Planning headquarters.
In the Japanese royal military planning headquarters a great undertaking was occurring. The Japanese officers were telling the emperor about the new troops they just equipped.

There were four main types of troops in the current military:

Basic Sword equipped infantry- These are infantry men with a sword. They are supreme warriors, getting in close and killing with deadly effect. They have specially forged Japanese blades that allow them to slice through their enemies. They are able to hold up the enemies and allow the other types of solders to easily mop up the enemies.

Archers- Long range attackers who are efficiently able to eliminate their enemies. When used in combination with the Sword infantry to occupy the enemy forces they are incredibly effective. The enemies don’t stand a chance.

Advanced Spearmen- These are leftovers from the Classical age. They are still very useful. They have an extremely long spear and specialize in attacking cavalry. They are also very good at protecting Swordsmen from behind a wall of shields. Another tactic still in use from the Classical age.

Horsemen- The horsemen are the troops used when we are in need of a quick assault of the enemies. We captured a few horses from the Mongols and have been breeding and training them. Now we have many skilled riders in our army. They are usually equipped with a spear and also a sword for if they are dismounted. The horses are rare for any country besides Mongolia. Our enemies will never expect to see these in use.

Samurai- The incredibly elite troops of the military. They can best any troops in the known world in fighting. They have the rarest of forged blades that are viewed as indestructible. They have been trained in the arts of fighting since birth, and their families are often members of a secret order known as the order of the Samurai. It is currently fleshing out its codes of servitude to the Emperor and his commanders. They are enough to push Japanese troops toward victory even when they are outnumbered. Soon they will build a reputation that shall be feared throughout Asia.

The Japanese empire had many plans. It would create a strong core group of allies in North East Asia. It would then work to achieve supremacy in the pacific region. Unfortunately for Korea the first step of the plan to achieve the great Japanese Empire was to destroy the vile annoyance that was Korea. Nothing would stand in the way of the grand designs of Japan.

A letter was written to the leader of Yamato from the leader of Japan. It read:

Please do not fear about this latest military attack. We are angered by the Korean sneak attack years ago in our darkest hour. It will not happen again! We will make sure of it! But you of course have nothing to fear. You have been our most steadfast allies. We will make sure that you remain safe and strong. Greatest Wishes.

The great Japanese ship works was coming along stronger by the day. Soon it would be cranking out many ships that would assure Japanese dominance in the North Pacific. The entire nation of Japan was now moving like clockwork. The emperor demanded that everyone work as hard as possible at this time to make sure that Japan is able to achieve greatness. It was time for Japan to rise to its rightful position of power. It would occur now. No one would stop its rise.
The emperor sat in his throne room contemplating all of this. His Samurai guards stood like statues next to him. He could not wait. It would not be long before his domain would grow. He had gained the respect of the strongest fighting force in the world, the Mongols, and soon he would gain the respect of the world. Respect was something that he enjoyed, and something he fought for.

-Upgrade military to Barbarian age

Axum was in poor shape. It's armies were still using old iron technology and they were undermanned. Ethiopia threatened from the south and the Arabs threatened from across the Red Sea. If Axum fell, so would a major bastion of Christianity, and likewise, the advance of Christianity would falter. It was time to bring up Axum and get it ready for troublesome times.

ORDERS:
Upgrade army to Classical age, then to Barbarian Age.
Station military forces around the country, especially in the south to defend against possible attack.

The Mongolian Empire

The Mongolian army had massed at the Mongolian, Tibet boarder awaiting their leaders final words before they marched into enemy territory. High upon his horse surrounded by the greatest horsemen in all of Asia as his faithful bodyguards. He raises his shinning blade. A deafening silence fills the air, and he begins to speak.

“Mongols today is a day for victory. You will not find better men than the men that are standing before me today. We are Mongolian men! Today we march into the enemies’ homeland and in the enemies’ grips you will remain until we reach the sea. Nothing can stop us.

Now go my men! Prepare for battle. Victory is in sight for this land will be ours and rulers will shutter at the mention of Mongolia.”

After the final preparations were made the Mongols formed their lines and set forth into Tibetan territory. Only after an hour of marching did they meet the Tibetan army.

The ground trembled with every step the troops made. The rhythmic beat became louder and louder as the Mongols approached. Fear filled the faces of every Tibetan solders, many trembled, some tried to hide their tears. The generals tried to inspire their troops, shouting and waving their banner, but it was no use.

Soon the pounding became unbearable, the Mongols were less than 300 yards away. The Imperial emblem on their shield could be clearly seen. A symphony of horns cut through the air like a knife though water. The thunder of thousands of horses roared. The inadequately supplied Tibetan army doesn’t stand a chance.

Tales of Sigi Continued

34%20Trireme%20with%20an%20engine.jpg

The port happened to be the best part of the town. Here there were markets from as far as Arabia selling goods to the rich, the only ones able to buy international goods. There were rows of ships, tied to the stone harbor like horses to a pole. I was able to spot the Sinhalese ship that would take be to Socotra easily, as the Sinhalese flag was hoisted high into the air. The ship itself was not a bad looking, being quite large and able to hold much of my possessions. Once boarded, I greeted the man who would take me all the way to Socotra, his name was Singli. He said that he has sailed the way to Socotra over a dozen times, and that there was nothing to worry about. Truth was that I was not worried, but my face probably said otherwise.

The sun hung in the sky as if it were doing so to spite us. I was helping the crew row the ship through the treacherous ocean currents; the sun was baking my back. This was hard work; I had never known how much labor it took to row a ship. It took nearly three months for the ship to finally reach the port of Agra – the largest port in the Indian Ocean.

Rightfully so, too, it was very densely populated from the moment I stepped off of the trireme. The dock here was made of wood – the only dock in the world to be made of wood – that was attached to the coast by an intricate system of ropes and iron. Fierce storms rarely battered the coast of the island, which made it such a popular place for yearlong trade and was also the reason the dock could be made of wood. Paying Singli, I felt secured that he would move my stuff to the nearest inn, where I would stay for the next few weeks.

A day into my stay on Socotra I noticed a few things – the sky was forever blue, the air forever dry, and the streets forever busy. One could not go ten feet without bumping into another market – not one foot without bumping into a merchant. It was definitely a sight to see, this city. It was made of mostly stone, which is the only natural resource in abundance here on this island. The streets were lined with cobblestones so to make the wagon rides smoother and cut down on the amount of accidents, which would create traffic in the dense city. The faint mutter sound of people is forever audible, creating a sensation of publicity.

Agra was by far the largest city on Socotra. In fact, it was the only city, as ordered by the high parliament in Anuradhapura so to not strain the resources of this small island and to preserve the natural beauty. Besides the city, there was a huge fort that housed the barracks and command center of the Sinhalese army that was based on the island. A friend that I met years ago was sent off here to be a part of the garrison, and so I decided to perhaps meet with him.

Desert_Trail.jpg

The road outside the walled city was strenuous, the hot ground burnt my feet (I had ruined my shoes the day before by stepping in a hole of mud on an unpaved street) and there were constant stops by soldiers to ask whom I was and why I was on the trail. After passing three guards, the fourth one told me to return to the city, in which case I did.

The city of Agra did not have much else then the markets. There were no historical monuments to visit, no extreme temples, not even a watchtower. The city soon grew to a bore, and I decided on taking the trip to Arabia. The next day I left Socotra.
