Q: What is the difference between an Acrobat and a Hunter?

Q: Why is there no pedia entry for baby spiders? Do they effect unit supply limits?

Q: How do you get TwinCast? I've had arcane units with combat 5, but been unable to take it as a promotion.

Q: The Big Monkey barbarians that sometimes spawn... is there anything interesting about them other than random big dumb beast? Plans for it? I've killed one and not gotten anything special for it.

Q: I read in the pedia about a Jade Torc and a rod of Winds, but never seen them appear anywhere in game... what gives?

Q: Are settlers really meant to cost 220 hammers? Or is this a bug like some people say?

Q: How does a leader with the Barbarian trait declare war on the Barbarians? (Other than the first time you walk into one of their units, you aren't ever given the 'declare war?' pop up).

Q: Why does Acheron sometimes have an aura of fear that requires a Courage like effect to overcome, and sometimes not? Saverous randomly offed the bugger, but Arthendian couldn't try without help.

More if I think of them. Thanks for anyone caring to answer!

Q: What is the difference between an Acrobat and a Hunter?
Acrobat upgradeable to Harlequin, which is much better than Ranger.

dunno

combat 5 + spell extension , am i right?

Q: The Big Monkey barbarians that sometimes spawn... is there anything interesting about them other than random big dumb beast? Plans for it? I've killed one and not gotten anything special for it.
they are just huge animals you can capture with subdue beast.

Q: I read in the pedia about a Jade Torc and a rod of Winds, but never seen them appear anywhere in game... what gives?
Rod of winds seems carried by Barbatos, while Jade Torc aviable through rare event.

Q: Are settlers really meant to cost 220 hammers? Or is this a bug like some people say?
i accept it as it is

Q: How does a leader with the Barbarian trait declare war on the Barbarians? (Other than the first time you walk into one of their units, you aren't ever given the 'declare war?' pop up).
move your unit on top of barb unit , there will be a pop

Saverous have "Demon" promotion so invulnerable to Fear

Harlequins replace rangers, there shouldn't be a need for a unique unit, so there must be another difference... or am I wrong? Barbatos doesn't hold the rod of winds. Spell Extensions... I'll try that, but it isn't in the pedia entry, just shows combat 5. And your tip about moving onto a barb unit is exactly what I said didn't work in my Q. It only happens the first time, and then never again. Otherwise it'd be easy to kill Orthus :P.

Saverous is a demon, immune to fear, that's a goof on my part!

Q: Some Belseraph units have 25% chance to create slaves. In what manner does that stack with the slave civic?

1) Doesn't stack at all, 25% is all you can get.
2) Additive, exactly 50% chance
3) Multiplicative: Two seperate 25% chances

Spell Extensions... I'll try that, but it isn't in the pedia entry, just shows combat 5.

Check the 'pedia entry again. You'll notice on the left side the units that can receive this promotion. Only heros can get twincast, which requires Combat 5 as a prerequisite. It's just like naval units can only get Navigation, or that only Recon and Cavalry can get Mobility 2.

Edit: Okay, so I thought heros were their own combat type, but that is not the case. Anyway, even though the 'pedia doesn't specify it, only heros can get twincast.

I think the rod of winds is only available through events, like the Adventure event, where you can get random pieces of equipment. Barbatos starts with the Staff of Souls, which is +1 affinity for death mana.

To declare war on the barbs, you can attack an animal, you'll be asked each time you do so if you want to declare war.

Barbatos used to have a death affinity rod, but I killed him in 0.31d and found absolutely no objects on him. The other items are obtainable through quests, don't no exactly, never had the chance to get the related events.

I was thinking that twincast was a hero only promotion, but I may be wrong.(Niveras beat me on this one)

Q: Bambur's flavor talks about him being able to upgrade weapons. Is this just referring to the fact he can cast enchant? Cause I sure as heck have no luck getting him to turn my bronze weapons into iron, when I get iron.

So twincast is hero only eh? Kinda odd choice, wouldn't it make more sense to instead require Channeling III?

I think it is only referring to is ability to cast enchant weapons, I never saw him upgrade weapons, but I never tried to use him this way.I would bet the anwser is what I suppose it is.
Twincast, like heroic attack/defense, is here to give an extra punch to hero units, and give you a reason to take care of them.

enchant weapons basically adds another 20% strenght to certain units, and isn't related to weapon promotions.

Nice thread to see, I'll be able to touch up some areas of the manual which may be lacking :)

Q: What is the difference between an Acrobat and a Hunter?
Absolutely no difference except for the graphic and the name. And the graphic could be done without making it a Unique Unit.

Q: Why is there no pedia entry for baby spiders? Do they effect unit supply limits?
As in, they don't even show up in the Pedia? If so it is because they are set to bGraphicalOnly, though I don't know why they are. Anyway, they do cost military support if that is what you meant. You can have unlimited amounts of them if THAT is what you meant :) Also, use FfH BUG and it changes the Pedia a bit, to include making it show anything marked as Graphical Only.

Q: How do you get TwinCast? I've had arcane units with combat 5, but been unable to take it as a promotion.
Promotions section isn't done yet for the manual, so I don't feel completely horrible about this one :) As mentioned it is available for Hero units only. It is the Arcane Equivalent of Heroic Strength & Defense.

Q: The Big Monkey barbarians that sometimes spawn... is there anything interesting about them other than random big dumb beast? Plans for it? I've killed one and not gotten anything special for it.
As stated, they are just there to terrorize and amuse, then be captured and abused.

Q: I read in the pedia about a Jade Torc and a rod of Winds, but never seen them appear anywhere in game... what gives?
Both are obtained by allowing a unit with the Hero promotion to go on a quest into a cave and funding his expedition. Small chance to obtain either one, but could also just get XP, do nothing, or die.

Q: Are settlers really meant to cost 220 hammers? Or is this a bug like some people say?
Yeah... nobody is quite sure. We'll call it a glitch.

Q: How does a leader with the Barbarian trait declare war on the Barbarians? (Other than the first time you walk into one of their units, you aren't ever given the 'declare war?' pop up).
As stated, attack an animal (or any unit with HN that belongs to the Barbarians). You can also use spells which hit Neutral Units and cause Declaration of war... I think Pillar of Fire might be the only one which still does that.

Q: Why does Acheron sometimes have an aura of fear that requires a Courage like effect to overcome, and sometimes not? Saverous randomly offed the bugger, but Arthendian couldn't try without help.
Ayup, as stated, some units are immune to fear. Though it is SUPPOSED to be that if you have a higher strength than the other unit you are still capable of attacking, and with a lower strength you have a CHANCE to attack based on the strength difference. (Doesn't work that way yet though)

Q: Some Belseraph units have 25% chance to create slaves. In what manner does that stack with the slave civic?
They stack. So you can get a 75% chance on a Taskmaster while running Slavery.

Q: Bambur's flavor talks about him being able to upgrade weapons. Is this just referring to the fact he can cast enchant? Cause I sure as heck have no luck getting him to turn my bronze weapons into iron, when I get iron.
Reasonably certain that it just means Echant Weapons. But it could be that back when you needed a Forge/Weaponsmith Building to gain weapon promotions Bambur could also count for handing them out.

Keep in mind that (in .30 at least) harlequins upgrade into Druids which gives you an extra 3 t3 summoners with access to pit beasts and domination. Again not sure how .31 affected this 'm sure someone will reply to clarify. This (used to) anyways make Balseraph druids insanely good compared to everyone elses.

Acrobats carry birds. Druids carry birds. Why don't Harlequins? Is it the scary hat?

Actually, I think I may have discovered bombur's secret. I got iron via the Arete wonder, and he was out, and all my units upgraded to iron, even though I didn't have iron working yet. I believe you normally need IW to actually get the upgrade, and smelting just reveals the resource. If so, that's a fairly decent boon.

Edit: I actually didn't have smelting yet when he upgraded my weapons. Can anyone double check that you need both Iron Working and a source of iron normally to get iron weapons?

So Acrobats basically just have a different name? Kinda dissapointing. Was hoping for something gymnastic for them to suddenly pop up.

Q: Fawn's are buildable from Fellowship of the leaves, but seem very close to strictly worse than hunters, and also cost 50% more, is there something to them I'm missing? Is it just that I don't have to build a hunting lodge?

Q: Puppeteer's give their summons the puppet promotion. Which seems to just make them immune to a few damage types. Is that all? Seems like a lot of work to get a little immunities.

Q: How do I get the Nightmare promotion?

Q: Sheut Stone promotion, what causes it?

Q: I notice there are two different 'Elven' promotions in the pedia... bug?

Q: Where does Mary Morbius come from? Says in a Quick Tip that only she spreads the plague... but I've never seen her in a game.

You don't need any tech to get iron weapons, but you do need smelting to reveal iron and iron working to allow your mines to harness it. There is no tech requirement from getting it from other sources, namely wonders like the Mines of Galdur. I personally don;t think this is right, and have been complaining about it for a long time.

Honestly I don't think there is a difference between hunters and acrobats, and frankly don't see the point of having the later in the game anymore.

Hunters need hunting lodges, Fawn have no building prereqs. Hunters have a penalty at attacking cities, Fawns do not. Lastly, Fawns start with the Woodsman 1 promotion. (Also, I believe their upgrades, Satyrs, are stronger on the offense, and they have a spell that can capture animals without combat)

The main purpose of the Puppet promotion is to change the graphics; puppets have big heads, and higher voices. Summons tend to be demons, elementals, or angels anyway, so the damage type immunity isn't worth much.

The nightmare resource will give the nightmare promotion to any maounted unit built when you have access to it. This is the Hell version of horses and cows. It never spawns on the map, so you have to be in Hell to harness this.

The Shuet Stone works the same way as Nightmare; however, the python code that changes resources to their hell equivalents no longer places shuet stones, so this promotion it impossible to get (without cheating)

The two different elven promotions are used to give different graphics to the Ljosalfar and Svartalfar units. (One of them is actually PROMOTION_DARK_ELF.) Their effects are otherwise identical.

Mary Morbus used to be a hero anyone could build, but she has been changed so that she is instead created through a random event. I have never gotten this event or seen the units since.

I got the event yesterday. I wanted to get Mary Morbus, but taking her put something like -3 (?) unhealthy in my cities and that was a bit much for me at the time, so I didn't accept good ole Mary.

I appreciate all the questions of the OP and especially the many answers. This is a good tutorial!:)
